Does UK Look Like a Top Ten Team?

I personally think they look like a top ten team, fifteen at worst. The reason I'm posting this thread is because on the national message boards there is a thread titled your top ten right now and UK isn't on hardly anybody's. I replied to that thread defending UK in that UK beat Duke, beat all mid majors by double digits, and the lone loss is on the road without Lee for 35 minutes and Ulis coming off an injury.

The gist I was getting from that thread is that poeple don't think UK looks like a top ten team and that they are easy to plan against in that all you need to do is pound it down low on offense and zone on defense.

I think UK is top ten, and number five seems more than appropriate, but a lot of non UK fans seem to disagree.

Unfortunately, I agree that UK does not look top 10 caliber right now.

Funny how quickly people forget we beat Duke soundly on a neutral court. No team out there is dominant right now. Everyone wants to hand Michigan State the title but they could easily have two losses. The Kansas game came down to the wire and Louisville gave them a scare on their own floor.

Eye test wise they do seem like a fringe top ten team. However I have watched other teams play and they have their lapses as well. Just need to keep getting better and hopefully they look good for the big game tomorrow against a decent team.

Totally new team, losing almost all scoring and rebounding to the draft last year. Young group that is still trying to become a cohesive unit. They look out of sync at times, because they have not spent much time playing together. Let's check back in February and see where they are.

Right now, they look like #10 to me.

Yes. I look to look at it a different way...I would ask Those people (national message board dudes) to name the 10 teams you would not want your team to play. My guess is Kentucky would be mentioned in those 10....maybe not?

Kansas and UNC are the only two teams that have looked like guaranteed title contenders right now.

Michigan State has won a couple of big games already but I still worry that they're too dependent on one guy.

We've already beaten Duke fairly easily.

Iowa State needed a 20 point comeback to beat a mediocre Iowa team at home.

Purdue has looked really good but they haven't beaten anyone great yet.

I think Cincy is top 10 despite the loss to Butler.

Xavier is definitely top 10. They've looked outstanding.

Louisville has looked like a top 10 team so far.

Arizona has looked solid but I wouldn't rank them ahead of us.

I think we're a top 10 team by default. Just a lot of ugly basketball right now.

I'd tentatively go:

Kansas
UNC
Michigan State
Xavier
Purdue
Cinci
Oklahoma
Kentucky
Duke
Louisville

Not right now but it's just mid December. If they look like this in 6 weeks then March will be ugly

Most other years I say no, we do not look top ten. But in comparison to what's out there right now, we do. Like said in previous posts, there's just not a lot of really good teams right now. I look at what the ceiking is by March, and ours is higher than any in my opinion. I've seen BigRedMachineBigBlueNatiom say championships are t won in December many times now, and he's correct. But we are sitting here in December, and in my opinion, we look as good as most every one out there now, with more room for improvement than anyone. we are good. And since when do we need validation; this is the MO of almost every other program, save a few (Duke, UNC).

Maryland, UNC, Mich St and Kansas would not be a lot of fun to play, but outside of that I think we've looked pretty good. I'm a sunshine pumper though, so take it with a grain of salt.

Id rank UK 4th or 5th. Maryland, eh, take it or leave it. No way ISU is better than UK, not based on what I watched last night.

I say the same UKWildcats#8. This is about right. I'd put us behind UNC, KU, and MSU. I still think we could beat each of those teams right now if we come to play, and definitely by tourney time. KU is going to be tough in January. We play UL at Rupp (not worried about that one). I still say we lose about 4 more games before tourney play starts.

But they won. That's what good teams do.
Win it late or fold.

I think we're a top 10 team based on the level of competition out there this season, but there's a lot of room for improvement and I think we will improve to a certain extent.

In the tournament, this is the kind of team that I feel like could get hot and beat anyone in the top 25, but it's also one susceptible to an early upset if some things don't improve.

With our annual 6-7 nba guys ready to jump ASAP why would we be scared to play anybody...just look how our guys are doing in the league...may not be winning NC with them , but Cal is killing the nba

I was impressed watching Diamond Stone against UConn. The thought of Skal and Lee dealing with him is not appealing. We matchup well on the wings, but Maryland has some hosses down low.

I'm not really worried about Maryland or UNC or MSU. KU...yeah. By March UK will be better than all these teams IMO.

And to the one poster who replied to me earlier...yeah @KU, @VU, @A&M and @LSU are the 4 I'd project on paper. A lot of other close run wins as this team has no killer instinct to blow people out consistently.

I think we have top 5 talent with top 150 chemistry and intangibles. When and if the latter gets better, we will look a lot more like a top-five team.

I'm not worried about Stone, Humphries held his own defensively vs him at the U17 championship game. They also had Giles, Ellison, Swannigan, and Rabb along with Stone guarding Hump.

You have become terrible. Did CUTNETS steal your username?

In my opinion we peaked too soon last year, and we still almost won a championship.
It would be cool to peak later and win it all.

Please tell anything in my statement that is not correct

I can show you 10 threads in the last few days that you have cried about the NBA and Cal.

No different than CUTNETS whining about Cal should have more championships. And just like him, it doesnt matter the thread's subject, you just hijack it with your constant need for attention regarding Cal's way of doing things.

I am not sure why you two think we all care to hear the incessant pouting over the same subject every single thread? I certainly dont.

If we replayed Duke you'd see more of a sagging zone. I'm not sure this a team could it it again. Teams aren't going to man up like that knowing we can't shoot.

It's early, but we are top 10 at this second. I'm sure it will change. The ceiling is number 1.

Just like I get tired of the constant chatter about the all world recruiting classes and can't wait til "next year" chatter ,the constant whinning about referees beating us when Wisconsin beat our ass because of them outplaying and out coaching us...

When we start hitting 3's, we will be really hard to beat. Ulis and Murray won't be missing these shots later in the year. These players are a lot better shooters than what they're showing right now. When this happens, let the opponents play a sagging zone.

This. Almost nobody this year passes the "top 10 team eye test", but you still need to fill that list with 10, whether you like it or not.
