Does U of L Break Our OOC Winning Streak?

Lol.

Not giving up Rembrandt, but it is a legitimate topic of conversation.

Ya’ know, it is the next game on the schedule.

I think should we beat them, this team/staff will deserve some credit for beating at least a decent Louisville team.

Fair enough then. Of course it is a legitimate topic. I was responding to this-
Are we beat??

Your last statement is certainly true. If we beat UL, our staff will deserve some credit under the circumstances. We had a mediocre month of October, largely due to injuries, poor play from our OL, and disastrous special teams. We troughed in a shockingly lackluster performance at home two weeks ago against an improving but beatable Vandy team, and I had some concerns at the time that our locker room might not be as focused as an SEC football team has to be.

But last week's defensive performance against GA was important because our defense is holding a trendline as one of the SEC's top defenses. As disappointing as this season has been, it has actually been an encouraging season by our defense if we separate out that one particular component of the team. Brad White is getting the job done.

If UK beats UL, then we would have a surprisingly strong performance against GA followed by an upbeat win in the finale against the bad guys to the west down I-64. Although it would be a small sample, it would represent an upswing and a stronger finish to a disappointing season. How the team finishes the season is important for a lot of reasons, including the signal it sends to recruits and assistant coach candidates, implications for a bowl, and program momentum going into the spring. If Stoops can salvage some emotional momentum going into the spring, that would be healthy for the future. Put differently, we all know it would be a much better situation than losing to UL at home and finishing the season with a three straight losses at home. Stoops would probably not receive much credit from an angry fan base, but it could make a big difference for the business that must be done during the offseason.
