Does Travis Perry have a definable role for 2025-26 ?

Reed was a top 3 nba pick. I didn't think he would be as good as he was so early but neither did anyone else on here. Perry isn't close to reed.
Your dreaming of you don’t think there were plenty on Rafters that stated Reed could even play at UK.

Where did I say he was close to Reed? The overwhelming majority of UK players aren’t close to Reed.

Don’t have to be a star to be a valuable part of a winning team. Great teams are made of good players with different skill sets that get blended together.

So many on here are all or nothing.

Educate yourself and enjoy that type of player. Florida had multiple guys of different skills.

If Perry really wants to develop his game, he should consider going elsewhere. Pope is trying to win. Last season taught Pope what must be done to make winning possible, so he is taking care of business.
I rather doubt that Travis Perry has any serious thoughts of playing in the NBA, so I'd bet that what he wants to do to "develop his game" is totally within the context of what he can do to help the 'Cats while he's there. He's always been a very good student, and he could be thinking about a long-term career path outside of basketball. And if that's the case, the "business opportunities" and employment positions for former U.K. basketball players who stayed and played four years for the 'Cats and then stayed in the Commonwealth after graduation are historically very good.

Him and Noah will get minimal playing time. I think they understand the role and possibly if they bust it and work hard they may have a bigger Role 2 years from now. With the makeup and the roster and likelihood of adding at least one more guard I don’t see him seeing the floor more than spot minutes 3-5 mpg average by seasons end.

Perry has a definable role. Barring injury, it’s to be a spot player against specific teams with limited minutes while he continues to learn the PG role.

As we know, few seasons happen without injuries. Consequently, he’ll get more unexpected minutes throughout the season.

But, we have a deep rotation of guards. I hope Perry sticks around, but would fully understand if he wants more minutes in the future. I do see a world where he’s the savvy veteran coming off the bench in years 3-4 that knows what Pope wants and gives a solid 15-20 mins a game.

Defense will be key to Perry’s minutes. Confidence is a huge part of defense regardless of athletic ability. He’ll have to become the nuisance type defender that isn’t afraid to bump and get physical. He’s needs to be physical for 2-3 dribbles that forces player to give up the ball. He’s got the broad shoulders to become this type of defender if he lives in the weight room.
I'll preface by saying they're COMPLETELY different players, but his most likely career trajectory is similar to Dominique Hawkins.

If we can get Cameron Mills out of his role. He will be just satisfied with that. Kentucky legend. Ask him

Perry's ceiling is around Travis Ford height. Always can use a final four player like that.

As a hometown kid, you want to see him succeed. But, you obviously don't want him playing more than a couple/few minutes a game.
To me, being a Wildcat for forever is a very good definition of success buuut I definitely get what you’re saying. It’d be sweet to see a hometown boy break into the league some day.

Others have probably already said this, but regardless of whether Perry gets playing time or has a future as a professional player, his best option is to stay at UK for four years, even if he’s just a benchwarmer the entire time. As a local kid playing four years at Kentucky, he’ll have strong support from people across the state after college, no matter what career he pursues. That kind of backing will make it much easier for him to succeed in life after basketball.

I think some of y’all are sleeping on Perry. I expect he will get 12-15 minutes per game. Many of us have forgotten that players actually make a huge jump from their FR to SO years, because 1) we had very few return and 2) the player development during the Cal years was virtually nonexistent. The kid will work his tail off and Pope will have him ready come November.

Unless Perry makes a huge jump over the summer, I don't see him getting much besides mop up minutes unless we're hurting at the PG spot again.

JMO. He might contribute more his junior year, but I dunno if he's ready for college quite yet. He'll get there.

His true position is the 2.

But he really can’t play the 2 at this level.

To get minutes he has to be able to man the point. And he has to play it well enough to mitigate his defense.

I’m a huge Perry fan. So I want him to make it.

It just might be too tall a mountain for him.
Bingo

This is just an honest question. I like Travis, and I hope the answer to this question turns out to be "yes", but ... I just don't know what to think at this point. I solicit all thoughts. And ... whatever ... Go 'Cats ! ! !
Yes. Be ready to come in and provide solid ball handling and shoot 40% from three.

I think Perry knew what he was getting when he committed to come here. I dont think he expected to be the starting PG in year 1, 2, 3, or maybe even 4. Hes a KY kid, probably dreamed of playing for UK, and is fine being a bench/role player for the most part. Nothing wrong with that, living his dream

I think he will regret not going somewhere and starting his whole career. Pretty sure he will continue to be recruited over. Spot minutes in blowouts and vs cream puffs is for the walk ons.

I think people forget that TP played only 9 games this year with over 10 minutes per game, the rest were just minor minutes until later in the season. He played a total of 58:15 minutes in the he last 2 games we had against Bama with a total of 2 turn overs. His highest turn over game was against Vandy with 3 in 26:15 minutes and one game he had 4 steals. He had a total of 11 turn over in those 9 games, that's a total of 164:31 minutes. All his games that he played over 10 minutes were against SEC teams except one, against Brown he played 13:13 minutes. The rest were TA&M, OM, UT, Texas, Vandy, Bama, OK & Bama. All I'm saying, give the him and Noah time to grow up and get stronger, they're not chopped liver.

There's not anyone on here who is a bigger TP fan than me. The kid is a winner and one of the classiest young men you will ever meet. With that being said, it is very evident his defense has to improve. One thing this year, we will have overall better team defense and some rim protection. After the first couple games where he was thrown into the fire, I thought his ball handling was adequate. He could get the ball upcourt against pressure from good defensive guards. What I think he has to do is become an automatic 3 pt shooter if left open.. if he can come in and play adequate defense and hit the open shots, I think his role will be more than most expect.

Perry needs to play the long game. Get stronger, get more experience, and wait. By the time Perry is a junior/senior he could become a Kentucky legend and be set for life. The WORST thing Perry (and Noah) could do is transfer to another school for more playing time and less relevance.

Yeah to develop, practice, and be ready whenever called upon. He's tasted game action and knows what it'll take to compete at this level. Perry may not play as much next session but hopefully he'll use the time to get better.
