Does This Title Put More Pressure on Cal to Win Another?

Some good post and quality opinions! I don't think Cal pays much attention to the we must win it this years fan. Cal eats sleeps and drinks Basketball just like the majority here. He probably works harder than anyone else out there. I think a couple of players from this years class might stay for 2 years. I like the fact he is looking at some shooting guards right now. It's just a matter of time. I have enough stress in my life and I prefer to watch and enjoy each of his teams. The 2019 class is loaded besides coaching USA Basketball he will catch a few big ones from this class!

I don't think there is any pressure right now but if you want to be real then he needs to win one in the next 3 seasons then cal will have zero pressure.

Do you think that's realistic?
Not realistic most years, but it has happened (2012/2015). I think what has killed up have been the guys that leave and are drafted near the end of the first round. Its been discussed several times, but think about:

2010 + Jodie Meeks
2011 + Daniel Orton
2013 + Marquis Teague
2016 + Dakari Johnson

Maybe none of that equals a title, but I think it would have increased our chances. I don't think any of those guys would have been hurt by coming back.

The guys that have come back for a second year tend to be role players or second round NBA talent. I know that the 2012 team was the perfect storm, we had high level talent return, Davis, Miller, & MKG. The team was balanced (both position wise & talent/experience). Unless the rules change, I don't see it happening.

One thing that I do foresee happening that increase our chances is some big name coaches should retire before Cal is out of the game (K & Roy).

Leave with that weak stuff. UConn/Duke/UNC/UF all has more titles then UK since 2000.

We are falling as a top program, open your eyes.
Really... just selected as greatest program of all time. Sure not getting the NCs as much as some want but to say we are falling is truly and deeply ignorant.

I agree but some will never "forgive" the loss in 14 and no going 40-0 in 15.

Whether right or wrong, just curious as to what you guys think.

I don't really think so, as he is always in the hunt and that's all you can ask for. I'm sure others will disagree with me, but that's why I wanted to try to get some sort of consensus.

No...not possible to pressure Cal any more, previous pressure to win titles at UK was 100% already

It has no effect on cal or uk. Only unc obsessed uk fans care about last night.

IF...we had gotten a couple more 3's, or blocked a couple shots (like the WSU game) or got 2/3 good calls, we might own the title.
Many would say we won with 5 Fr on the team and an equal amount would say it was all due to Dom & Derek and 2 sophs.

It is odd how if cal wins one title (which is more than most coaches dream of) he is a bum but if he wins two then he is all world. Add in the fact that a time out here or a possession there and he has at least two or three titles.

I judge him by how often he puts us in the hunt. Except for two seasons he has done that. Even this year people will lose context and say this was only an E8 team and miss the fact that we were a razors edge from beating UNC and going to the F4 and very possibly hanging 9.

You said . He is always in the hunt. There will always be naysayers. First it was Cal couldn't win the big one with freshmen , well he did. Now it is he can't win it again ,give me a break. If you are in it you will win it some of the time. If you make 4-5 final 4's you win 1 . He has made 4 and won 1. I suspect he will be here another 10 years or so and make around 5-6 more final 4's and win 1-2 more.

One more time.

NO ONE said cal cannot win with a young team that has multiple freshman. They said he cannot win the title with ALL, AAAAALLLLLL, freshman, and he can't. He has enough trouble escaping to the title game with a few. Our teams are too young. Cal would have three titles at UK by now has he convinced a few to return. It's a big problem. Enough with this nonsense.

He is fine. One of the greatest things he does is assemble phenomenal talent. You need talent to have a chance to win a title which we have every year despite how old they may be. With that said, talent is just a piece of the equation. To win it all you need a lot of Luck (seeding, match ups, not having to face a prick official, avoid a bad shooting night, etc.) and a little Timing (is it an up or down year in basketball, roster alignments).

Some people just need a little perspective and reality. The greatest college basketball program of all time (UK) only has 8 titles....why...cause it's unbelievably hard to pull off. Hence why people chose to believe that it should be easy with the talent we have and that Cal should have more championships. Its easier to believe that than accept the reality that we go years or decades between titles while still being the greatest overall program year in and year out.

Just relax my fellow wildcat brothers and sisters, championships will come; however they are not just simply handed out like UNC degrees.

Just an amazing post. UK's program has never been in a better spot. We are preaseason top 3 every.single.year. That is all you can ask for . It is almost impossible to win a title and that is without cheating refs and shady seeding . We will win 1-2 more with Cal IMO and that is because we are in it basically every year. Even 2 years ago if we had gotten a good draw and been a 3 seed and IU had been 2-3 seed like they should of been we would have made a bigger run. Basically there has been one down year in 8 . That is amazing.

UK's program has ever been in a better spot?

48-58 we won 4 freakin titles. Take a nap. Cal is arguably top 3 in UK history. I like Cal but I did over rate him at this point. He's a great coach, just not sure anymore if he's a goat.
