Whether right or wrong, just curious as to what you guys think.

I don't really think so, as he is always in the hunt and that's all you can ask for. I'm sure others will disagree with me, but that's why I wanted to try to get some sort of consensus.

I'd say yes to an extent. UNC is a bluebood with another title. Reality is, they haven't been punished and may never be. We can hide behind the stories or that they shouldn't be there due to cheating but at the end of the day, they are 2 titles back (due to cheating or not). Its sad but reality. Cal will get his.

Why would it? Cal does need more than one to put his name among the greats but I don't see what this title has anything to do with that. As far as I'm concerned this title is irrelevant because it is the astrik title. It's a title that was won by a team that should have been eliminated 3 times during the tourny but wasn't due corrupt officiating. More that by a team that shouldn't have even been in the NCAA because of repeated NCAA infractions that the NCAA has decided to ignore.

I agree and I'm sure at some point he will, but does the game last night specifically add more pressure?

Well if you wanna stop all the love UNC and Duke gets and wonder why they seem to get a easy draw (they never do) they are the top programs and GET THE JOB DONE, and if you want more media to show Cal respect then yes he has to win one within 2-3 years.

Roy with 3 now seems he is way ahead of Cal. WAY AHEAD

We have been in just 2 title games in the last 17 years, UNC and DUKE have been more.

I'd start your clock at 8 years. Before that we weren't a serious contender for anything. The '99 through 2009 years were the lost years of UK basketball.

Leave with that weak stuff. UConn/Duke/UNC/UF all has more titles then UK since 2000.

We are falling as a top program, open your eyes.

I don't give a damn what the media or rival fans have to say about Calipari. If he does win another title here they'll just change their narrative to "well, he should have 4 or 5 with all the talent he has so he's still underachieved...blah blah blah" It's all bullshit; and yet a coach like Bill Self who recruits almost as well as Calipari only has 2 Final Fours is hailed as a coaching icon because he wins the Big 12 regular season "championship" every year.

What does this title have to do with anything? There will always be pressure on the UK coach to win a title, always has been, always will be.

I'm pretty sure Cal aint winning another one here. He cant put together the right team to get it done and even if he did the NCAA will roadblock him in the tourney.
We got our 1 championship. It's time to use the Brad years to search for a coach the NCAA prefers UK to have.

You can't be serious. Cal will win another title here at some point.

In short, Yes. When he was hired Mike Decourcy came out and without question Cal would not just win big here but win multiple titles. I think the feeling among most is a few have gotten away and expected more. We all know it's just not easy when others big programs are trying for the same thing but that doesn't eliminate the fact that pressure is building. If you asked the same people who were confident in multiple titles back then how confident they were that we will win another title in the next 5 years, I'm not sure how much cash you'd see on the table. We'll still contend for sure but winning it all with another young team? I think most of us would take one in the next 5 years all day.

The only thing that continues to put more pressure in Calipari is our fanbase and their unreasonable expectations. We seen more than anything this year unless you are absolutely head and shoulders better than the other teams your playing that the refs can and will dictate the outcome. I've never seen a team get more favorable outcome in every game they played more than UNC got during this run. Something needs to be done with officiating now.

Roy came into Carolina and won two titles quickly. He went from 2009-2017 w/o another title. Coach K went 2001-2009 w/o a title.

Guess what, if you have a team good enough to win 90-95% of the time, we will have a year where things go our way and win a few more.

No. I don't think Cal sees UNC as a rival like we do. I think anytime we aren't the Champs, regardless of who wins it, Cal wants the next one.

Only in that it's another year where UK was right in the hunt but didn't bring home the trophy. We need to grab another couple 'chips' while the getting is good.

UNC ought to feel pressure. Playing for its 6th national championship and they have to resort to renting fans to see it.

Damnit, I really hate being a fan who complains about the refs as a primary reason why we didn't win the title. Yet, here I am. Is it football season yet?

Would agree that the pressure is always there for the guys at the top like Cal.

I think it's more of a big middle finger to all those who criticize Roy because his kids stay longer than a year, or maybe aren't "talented" enough to leave early.

folks, he's in it for UNC and anything after a title (draft night, max contracts, nba highlights) is the cherry on top of a delicious healthy serving of cake, ice cream, and whip cream.

I think more than adding pressure to Cal, it shows that the old way of methodically recruiting and building a program not only for the near future but 2,3,4 years down the road still works as well and isn't going anywhere.

In fact I'd say that Villinova, Gonzaga, UNC, Oregon and most of the programs that make it just as far as us each year are proof that you don't have to live and die by the OAD.

I agree. Cal has now established the UK brand and recruiting to truly reap the benefits. I believe the next 5-7 yrs could be his best and likely less demanding bc he's implemented his system. The best recruits know if you wanna fast track to the NBA that Cal is the guy.

Each year Cal is here there is more pressure to win a championship, it comes with the territory, he's been close a lot and I think it will happen. Like some have said, the other programs that have won since Kentucky has keeps the fans on edge a little, especially when you play by the rules and lose to a program that doesn't.

Why would there be pressure on Cal? He got us deep in the tourney, gets great recruits every year, he has a title, he's in the HOF, and he gets to enjoy draft night.

Well I never saw UK win a championship until my senior year of college. Then I had to wait another 18 years for the next one. We had plenty of near-misses before Cal arrived. I am perfectly happy where the program is. UK is in the conversation and finishing in the top 5-10 every year. It's hard to win 6 straight games in March/April. If it weren't then Mike Krzyzweski would have more like 12 titles.

I feel like this was Roy Williams' last hurrah. UNC won't be in another Final Four for a while and there is a real chance their 2005 title is vacated. UNC fans were just as frustrated as we are before last night, especially after they lost the championship game last year with an arguably better team than this one that also had Brice Johnson and Marcus Paige. They didn't get to a Final Four with Harrison Barnes for two years! And they had to watch Duke luck into two championships in 2010 and 2015.

The multiple Final Fours at UK under Pitino and Cal are the real anomalies. Pitino's teams reached the Elite 8 in 5 of his 8 seasons but only won one championship. And UK fans were ready to canonize him.

You said . He is always in the hunt. There will always be naysayers. First it was Cal couldn't win the big one with freshmen , well he did. Now it is he can't win it again ,give me a break. If you are in it you will win it some of the time. If you make 4-5 final 4's you win 1 . He has made 4 and won 1. I suspect he will be here another 10 years or so and make around 5-6 more final 4's and win 1-2 more.

Just an amazing post. UK's program has never been in a better spot. We are preaseason top 3 every.single.year. That is all you can ask for . It is almost impossible to win a title and that is without cheating refs and shady seeding . We will win 1-2 more with Cal IMO and that is because we are in it basically every year. Even 2 years ago if we had gotten a good draw and been a 3 seed and IU had been 2-3 seed like they should of been we would have made a bigger run. Basically there has been one down year in 8 . That is amazing.
