It has the potential to get UGLY in Gainesville. Their offense is gonna be atrocious and they only snagged struggle QBs out of the portal. He may not make it after a losing season year one considering the short leash Dan Mullen got.

He’s killing it recruiting but they are buying those players with pay for play, not NIL. They can cheat and buy players for the next coach too. He has to show he can win IMO.

I really hate it forBilly, he is a good guy and his dad was one of my best friends. But I just can't force myself to hope UF gets to a bowl. Many of their fans are expecting 9 wins and a top 5 recruiting class for 24. Sure both are possible, but I think they lose to Utah, Clemson, UT, UK, UGA and LSU with toss-up games with Arkansas, South Carolina and likely wins with against Vandy, Missouri, McNeeses and Charlotte. Billy is a good recruiter, but top 5 is a reach with Bama, LSU, OSU, UGA, UT, ND, Mich all recruiting pretty well. But anything can happen, but I think Billy has a different job this time next year.

He goes less than 8-4.....he's done at Florida IMO.
If he goes 8-4 he should be in the conversation for coach of the year. I would say 6-6 + a bowl win is pretty good & 7-5 with a bowl win or loss would be very good. The fans may not be happy with that, but that’s where they are right now. Sub-.500 & the fans will be calling for his termination, but I think it takes 3 years & he will get at least one more (unless he just craps the bed totally this year & gets 3 or 4 wins). There may be a shorter leash if he were an A-hole (but he seems to be a great guy). Stricklin is a Barnhart disciple so I expect him to give him as much time as he can…unless/until the pressure from boosters & fans becomes overwhelming.

I agree on the 8-4, would be quite the job, 6-6 would be pretty good effort. But that 4-8 isn't out of the question either for 23. The only way I think he could survive a 4 win season is they are afraid of losing their signing class. Gator boosters think they have always been a power, but take away the SOS and Urban years and they have zero conference championships. He could survive 5-7 if one is a big win/upset, but not sure that helps him at 4-8.

Billy might be a great recruiter, but he coached the worse 4th quarter I have ever seen in Gainesville last year.

He went for it on 4th down, in his own territory with about 8 minutes to go, and again, with about 4 minutes to go, trailing by less than a score.

“Analytics” be damned. We had twice f@&ked up a long snap in the game, and Billy hung his hat on converting 4th down conversions against a Top three SEC defense. Had he punted us deep, either time, there would have been a likelihood of forcing us to punt the ball with tons of pressure on the road.

Instead, he put all his eggs in AR-15’s basket to convert 4th downs in his own territory. (I wonder if anyone closely kin to Napier advises the Colts on draft prospects?).

He has 2 brothers who are head coaches in Georgia, one has coach multiple SEC players, the lasted being Tank Bigsby at AUburn. I kinda thought Billy might give him a chance at UF to get his foot in the door of college coaching, the younger is in a tough enviroment.

But as you said going for it on 4th down seems to be getting more common regardless of field position.

He does seem like a good guy but I wouldnt bet on him being there next year either. Last year didnt look good and I was roaming through satelite channels the other day and caught 5 minutes of their spring game and I swear all I saw was three snaps and two of them went over the QB's head with the defense recovering. They showed Billy standing behind the huddle and he looked like he wanted to throw up.

He is a good guy, really wish he had gone ACC or Big10 where I could pull for him. But I can't disagree with you on his job status. UF fans are expecting at least 8 wins. If things go well I see
6 losses and 3 tossups.

I don't think Florida will fire him unless he goes winless in the conference schedule

Its.looking like he is going to sign a good class this cycle. With Vandy and Missour on the schedule, if he doesn't get at least 1 win out those 2 they are looking at 2-10. Don't think he survives that.

Yes. Why?

1)the AD who hired him also hired Mullin. No AD in the SEC gets to fail twice
2)firing him now would cost $32M. The Gators don't have deep wallets like Texas a&m. Just ask Jaden Rashada.

He'll be there coach in 2024 irregardless of 2023 record.

AD will be fired. Napier will not be fired. $32M buyout.
IF he fails with his recruits,NEW AD will have HIS COACH on speed dial.
Florida will hire an AD with a top tier coach on his current staff. Much like UT did with UCF hire at AD to bring in Heupel as HC.

He’s going to have to get more out of #3. All the #3s.

Seriously, Florida is a terribly coached team. How many stupid mistakes, penalties, boneheaded uniform number duplications, fielding punts going backwards inside the five, on and on.

Another sun belt, conference USA bust. That league has zero defensive talent and then they get to a decent level and cant run deep passes all game long

And Napier doesn’t even seem to have his team in physical shape. Get him out of here and let Uk snatch up some decommits

Better yet... let him stay AND let UK snatch up some decommits...win-win

Florida looked terrible, especially given how short handed Utah was at QB and a lot of other spots. Of course, Utah is pretty damn good, so not surprised they won anyway, but pretty much controlled the game all the way.

Offense was basically terrible, and tbh, Florida also looked pretty slow on defense versus the team speed on defense that Florida used to have, Utah could not run a wide open playbook by any means.

Nope. I live here and they think he is getting it done in recruiting. If they don't win 4 games - then he may be gone. If you look at their schedule - unless they make a tremendous turn around they may not win 4 games. I just don't want UK to be one of the wins. Obviously, at the moment we look good for that game.

Go Big Blue!

Florida looked poorly coached. They were mistake prone and very vanilla looking. You can't blame talent because they have a lot of talent on that team.

Florida is in a tough spot - too bad, lol.

Yep. The discouraging thing if your UF is ihey looked undisciplined and complacent. Not just screwed over talent wise by the last coach
