So does Joe B Hall, and he's not in yet. Take away the UK years, he's won 1 title and been to 4 FF's at UL and Providence. Joe Hall won 1 title and went to 3 FF's in only 13 years coaching at a big time program. So I don't think it's a certainty Pitino would've gotten in, if you take away the UK years. He even said it himself during his induction speech.

For something to "bother" anyone, there has to not only be a personal connection, but also the analytical capacity to think through problems, solutions, etc. They probably don't get to the point of "bother" because it requires deeper self-reflection that most of their fan base lack the capacity to engage in.
