Does Barker have a legit shot at the starting QB job?

Towles is better is all areas of the game:

1. Superior intelligence
2. Stronger arm
3. 2-3 inches taller
4. 20 lbs heavier
5. Faster
6. Harder to tackle
7. More experience
8. Superior bloodlines
9. More desire to be great

Plus, how do you unseat a kid that just led us to 5 wins with inferior or younger talent versus an inexperienced kid who has only proven that he will do stupid ish off the field

Personally, I like this idea. Give him the third series or the first series of the second quarter every game.

That said, who knows what they really look like other than the coaches and players. If it's as close as it seems and Towles is named the starter, I'm all for the above plan.
I agree DJ, however the coaches have said there is some separation between the two. I see nothing wrong with giving Barker a couple of series in 2nd quarter. Like you said no one really knows what Barker can do against SEC defenses. But we do know what Towles has done in the past.

Very few freshman or soph QB's are ready for SEC defenses. Its time for Towles to use his talents and experience to lead this team. In my opinion Barker will see plenty of playing time because of the injury factor. Its hard to stay injury free in the SEC.

If this were all true, who here thinks we would have a QB battle in fall camp?

His Bloodlines and slow Mental response time is why i don't like Towels as UK's starting QB

If Towles has a bad game or is dinged up and Barker has the opportunity to take it and succeeds good for him. I'll support them both as long as they are producing. Regardless of the schedule last year, getting beat six straight hurt after opening 5-1. In my opinion that is why there is a competition and deservedly so for Barker. Towles body of work and Barker' s improvement is the reason the job is up for grabs.

I am kind of shocked at the criticism being thrown at both QBs. This is the best talent at the QB position that I have seen in years. We are so lucky to have 3 QBs who all seem able to perform in case someone does not play well or can not play because of injury. I am so pumped at the depth that we have at QB.

Towles would have to tank for Barker to start wk 1 now. And it is likely Towles would have to play poorly for a few games before they switch to Barker. As it is I think Towles plays plenty well enough to hold down the job for the whole yr. He will mistakes to be sure, but he will be considered one of the better SEC QBs this yr.....and may be the best rated going into next yr.

^Thoroughbred racing, duh?! Go with the horse that was has fairly close Major League Baseball pitching bloodlines. Because that's how decisions are made in college football.

Bloodlines such as grandaddy being a great major league pitcher arent as important as intelligence, arm, size, strength and speed, but its a bonus. Its no coincidence that most great athletes have other pro athletes in the family

Towles has a good chance of equaling or surpassing woodsons success at Kentucky. Barker will be good in time, but he is way behind mentally at this point.

Towles was playing with freshmen last year and damn near won 7

Number 8 is silly. How would you know number 9?

The best thing about this is that Barker will essentially have a whole game and a half of experience with the UL-L, EKU and Charlotte games if you add together all of the snaps he will play in those. This is how it works if you have talented QBs. That said, if Towles has games like Mizzou and Louisville last year where he appeared lost, best believe Stoops and co won't hesitate to put Barker in. Hopefully, that doesn't happen. But at least we have a VERY talented back up now.
