Does anybody miss the three man weave we used to run out front every time down the floor ?

I am enjoying BB again the way it's supposed to be played. Mark Pope has completely won me over.
We are fun to watch. Actually run out of bound plays.
After seeing what we do, I knew our half-court sets under Cal was bad. but I did not realize just how bad.
The weave out front, what in the world was the purpose of it ?
I think the Pope era here is going to be a good one.

The suck about Cal's "system" was that aside from those three weaving, the rest stood around. And then when it was time to start the drive, they all stood around watching the one guy "go make something happen". With Pope, the entire team is moving. Someone is always moving without the ball. It's refreshing.

I feel like I've been reborn to basketball. I see plays being run and it's like I'm a newborn that's never seen anything like it. I literally have to relearn the game after living through such horribly executed whatever it was.

I think I’m going to miss our player pounding the ball at the top of the key and driving to the rim regardless if anyone else is open or that the defense is packed in like sardines.

Remember when all the ignorant Gen Z’ers on the board were biting their fingernails and saying “but we can’t get anybody better than Cal”

This is Kentucky, bitches. Grateful for what the man did his first decade here but can’t believe we let him hijack our program. Thank God for Coach Pope and the man who mentored him, Coach Pitino.

This team could play Oakland or Saint Peter’s 10 times and it wouldn’t be closer than 30.

Last year, Cal got a system in place that spread the floor out and took advantage of the players he had. They shot well and were very talented, won games. They could've been better though. Early on, Cal started getting them AWAY from the success they had beginning the year. By season's end, it was the same old Cal coached team, with the same old weaknesses, relying on the same old system basically.

Then they played the worst game of the season in the NCAAT.

Thankfully, it was the last straw. It SHOULD have been years ago. 5 years ago, by my count. But it finally happened.

Now we can enjoy a new era, and I want to believe it can be another GOLDEN era for Kentucky basketball. My dad was here for the glory days of all of Rupp's tenure. We were great in the 90's. Another golden era. And the golden era in the aftermath of Cal's early days here. From 10 - 15, that indeed, was another golden era.

But times passed Cal by. He relies on his system and philosophy of getting raw one and done freshman talent to win. The game has matured beyond that coaching philosophy to work in this day and age of NIL and semi-pro college athletics, in my humble opinion. At Kentucky, the more experience, the better, I say. It gets brutal quickly here.

I love the new look and new direction and attitude of our team. And it all comes from the head coach on down....

Thanks Cal, for the good times. Now you'll just have to get used to LOSING to Kentucky, like all the other former coaches have done when they came back to play against us !

Go Big Blue !

Yep. The back cuts. Motion on offense. Passing. Spreading the floor. Players accepting their roles.

Pope run the three man weave some but he actually runs it correctly, Butler scored off the 3 man weave, I am not sure what the hell Cal was trying to accomplish with his version of the 3 man weave except to kill time on the shot clock.

Yes, I loved being the team making back cuts instead of the one being beat by them all the time. And, for the most part, we covered 3 point shooters much better than Cal coached teams. Still remains to be seen how we will do against better teams but I like what I see so far.
