Do you boo Calapari

How about this scenario: If Cal was still at UK with his current team and record and they lost to Arkansas, would you boo him on the way out of the gym? Or, should we cheer him for what he did for us 10 years ago? I think people should do what they want, just like in voting. I won’t be there so I don’t have a dog in the fight.

I would clap for Calipari out of gratitude for the championship and the many wonderful memories (and for letting Kentucky off the hook for his buyout).

I would have clapped for Pitino if he hadn’t gone to Louisville.

You left out the part where he tried to actually get more cash for himself by using the Arkansas offer as leverage. You also left out the part where he sat with Mitch and said he’d be back and wanted support, then two days later was meeting with Arkansas? Also, left out the other parts:
- talking about the fans like we were stupid hillbillies
- playing the wrong line up intentionally for TWO FULL SEASONS, to the detriment of the program
- prioritizing his agenda over the programs at every turn

Yeah, he won a title, and we paid him lots of millions for it. Doesn’t mean I have to kiss his ass forever. Give it 20 like with Rick and I’ll be ready to applaud for him.
Yeah, I get it, but he did us a favor even if he was intending to. I’ll take it and move on. I’m happy as hell he did what he did.

Personally, I’ll be disappointed in this fan base if cal doesn’t have a good welcoming. Once the game starts, all is fair. Cal did a lot for us and the state. Glad he’s gone but still.
Cal didn't intentionally do us any favors. Yes, UK benefited from Cal getting caught up in his own web of deceit, but don't attempt to spend this to sound like Cal purposely did UK a favor. Cal did all that he could to harm the program. He took every player that he could from UK without any consideration as to how those players would function as a team. He didn't care how they functioned. He only cared about creating as tough a situation as possible for whoever would be the new coach. CAL SUCKS AND NO AMOUNT OF TIME WILL ERASE THE HARM HE CAUSED!!!!

When I was at UK, several times they passed out newspapers, and everyone held them up when the opposing team was introduced (or even turned their backs and did that). They could do that and on the front it could say something like "Thanks for the memories but we want you to lose every game against Kentucky."

That's cool, but a day will come where we celebrate Cal. That day is not Saturday, I'm not saying fans have to boo him but why would any fan cheer for a coach of an opposing team? His goal is to come into Rupp and beat our team, so cheering for him is the dumbest thing anyone can do.
I will never celebrate Cal. Why should I? If my memory serves me well, Cal is the only coach we have had who purposely did things that were counterproductive to the program. Cal's players first crap was about as anti-program as it could get. He put individual player success ahead of team success and that should never be the case. Nate Oats just demonstrated to one of his best players that no player is more important than then the team. That is exactly what a coach should do.

i will not boo a coach that gave us one of the greatest runs in our school history
not to mention he saved the school about 30 million
he tried to back pedal and stay but Mitch said thanks but no thanks you gave UK a way out for free

everyone else should do what they feel in their heart

Absolutely not.

When he came here all anyone could say was "He'll have you on probation in the next few years." Through 15years, he never ONCE got in any trouble while Louisville, North Carolina, Kansas, and even Duke ALL had NCAA issues during that time. He ALSO took us to 4 final fours and won a national championship. His name will hang in the rafters one day as it should. I'm shocked at how many people were thrilled to see Pitino come back, yet many of those same people would boo Calipari.

Cal gave us some good years! It was time for him to try something different and he gifted the University a 30-40 million dollar lottery ticket! He let go of the rope the past few years but I would have more class than to Boo him!

I think the reaction Saturday night will be somewhat mixed but more cheers than boos.
He fell off the 2nd half of his time here but you can't just dismiss four final fours and a national title.

Not to mention the good he did for the people of Kentucky outside of basketball.

The reaction will be mixed but hopefully in the past kind of like how Pitino did at BBM, Cal will return and get cheered.

Matt Jones said it best, every fan has earned their right to do whatever they please. I would personally boo him for shitting on our fanbase the last 5 years and blowing so many opportunities for more titles that a ton of other coaches would have won a title with. I am not booing the person that Cal is, he's a great human being, I just hope he never wins another game lol.

I wouldn't boo him. Coach Cal brought Ky back from really being on the verge of being irrelevant. Unfortunately in the end he was not living up to the task at hand and calling out fans for pointing out his piss poor job. On the other hand, he did leave on his own and saved us the buyout so I'm all good. He's gone and we have a National Championship (hard to come by BTW)and we have Coach Mark Pope who is kicking absolute a$#. I think Rupp should give him respect and let the Commonwealths team do their job.

30 years and a Mark Pope will do that.

Only classless fools would boo anyone who coached at UK. That includes fans and students alike.
Aren't you a real tool. You have the audacity to lecture UK fans on classless behavior while committing the classless act of name calling.

Only a real Cal apologist thinks it is ok for a coach to treat this fanbase the way Cal did and then thinks Cal should somehow be celebrated for retiring in place after signing a lifetime contract. Kentucky was on the path to irreparable harm if Cal hadn't breached his contract which gave Mitch the power to fire him. Cal left because he knew Mitch was going to terminate his employment for breach of contract. Cal has been far more insulting to this fanbase than fans were to him.

A question I have for the ones who would boo, and this isn’t to argue at all, mainly for context but why would you boo? I’m just interested in why people feel they would. I think it actually may help explain why and context does matter.

I wouldn’t boo and appreciate Cal a ton for what he achieved here. But if someone would boo simply because he’s at an in conference opponent, then I guess I don’t think that’s some slap in the face. I also could be wrong. Thoughts?

He made his bed and now he’s laying in it, I would boo if I was there because of how condescending he was to Bbn over the years……as a coach. The cal u crap then draft night stupidity……go jump in a lake with that horse crap.

Cal the person did a lot for the state and its people but I’m booing the coach not the person. He’ll have his day in the sun when he either retires or shows some humility……see Ricky P for that exact same way cal will get treated. But he’s the opposing coach trying to beat us Saturday, sorry but not clapping for someone that’s at a rival in the conference.

Nah. The man won a championship here, and frankly did us a huge favor when he screwed around and punched his ticket to Arkansas without us having to pay him to leave. The alternative is he would still be here, and we wouldn’t have the massive breath of fresh air that Pope is for our program. Just basically ignore just like we do with just about all opposing coaches when their teams come to Rupp and move on.
I wouldn't boo him. I prefer to ignore him.

For a decade he brought Kentucky back from also ran back home to blue blood. I wish he had left 5 years sooner. I'm glad whether he intentionally or not he saved UK a ridiculous buy out.
I was tired of his style and of course the 'players only' philosophy. But for a long run at UMass, Memphis and Kentucky there were few better coaches. I'm mighty glad to have coach Pope.
But I think I'd clap out of respect for those ten great seasons, a natty and more final 4s than we had seen on a long haul.

Just be quiet on his introduction. No booing no cheering

IMO… players go with the coach that recruited them.

I would boo. Why not? He’s an opposing coach coming in to Rupp to beat our team. Even excluding all of the bullshit I could list, that’s enough. Come on, this is sports, boo the other guys. It’s what you do.
I like your approach. Why make it more philosophical than needs to be?

Wouldn’t boo but there’s a lot of nonsense in here about what Cal did for UK being a factor at this point. We cheered him at the time he had his success at UK.

Those days are long gone. He deserves nothing now.

I wouldn't boo him. Cal did UK a solid by moving on, whether it was on accident or purpose. He did a lot of good here...only reason to boo him would be if he takes a potshot in the coming days.

I'd do a golf clap, I along with everybody else hated his last 5 or so years but I also remember where we were at as a program when he took over and the good he did, hate the way it ended but can't forget the fun ride we had with him here.
This. And don't forget he gave us an out at the end and look at us now. No two or three year rebuild.
