Did we upgrade a single position in the portal?

I'm tiring of our defensive scheme. I watched pretty intently all year other teams defensive strategies. A lot of em had some kind of advanced rushing the passer concepts. Like bring an end in to have the left tackle be fo used on him. Left guard on a DL and same with the center.
At the point of snap the end would fall back into coverage and the linebackers and Safeties would come up and rush 3 at once at the center or guard. Well he could only block one guy so that leaves 2. RB would pick up 1 and the other one left would sack BV or a TFL. We never do this. Many many other teams do and they create havoc in the backfield.

Of course allowing a 10 yard cushion when they need 7 is the dumbest strategy I've seen in a while
I think losing Wallace early and then DJack to injury really scaled back what UK could do. Recall 2 years ago, Deone Walker dropping back and making a big hit against UF for Wallace INT.

Speaking of DW, what did he decide to do?

On that topic ... it seems UK has more players leave early to make no noise or even a roster spot in the league. Boom, Bowden, Heard, and to some extent Snell. It is frustrating to watch the rinse and repeat. Egos?

That is not actual results those are fantasies of someone's own mind.

I guess that fits in around here since most everyone seems to have fantasies about the team and not based in reality
Sure guy, I mean that site I posted is just a bunch of morons who got together 25 years ago and created one of the most trusted resources for fantasy football. You know, that fantasy game that turned into a major money maker.

But sure, continue to point out the obvious and blame everyone but the man in charge. Everything will turn out fine in about six more seasons when Stoops finally leaves.

By the way, that site you posted is about as trustworthy as a broken dick.

A Locked on Kentucky Facebook post says Kentucky has the 5th rated Transfer Portal class. Don't know whose opinion that is but it sounds like an upgrade.

Unless Stoops and Hamdan have left or are leaving before game 1, then they could have picked up Lamar and Henry and it wouldn't matter.

The article you posted was out before the season even began, there's nothing to go off of there, after the results of the season have shown their line to be awful.

Really don't care what you think. You can link pre season fantasy articles. I post actual in season results with numbers backing them up.
Your just mad that it flies in your face of fantasies

I think the early schedule is a bit of a problem for a team full of transfers. Ole Miss in week 2 is a really big game. Ole Miss will have the same issue except they pretty much land who they want in the portal.

Bottom line you should have a good idea if they nailed the portal.

I hope they are all upgrades. But who knows. We supposedly had one of the best portal classes last off-season and we got 4 wins out of it.
Did we get rid of the dead weight which is just as important.

We have some good players coming in but we also have like 14 commits so it's a big class. That's part of the reason why it's ranked so high. But, it's about as good as can be expected considering our situation.

We have 21 signees, and via Rivals’ point system, are ranked 24th.

And actually we are receiving no boost based on class size: re-arraign the list based on average Star Rating, and we are . . . 24th in the nation, exactly on par with our points rating. Sometimes class size warps the point-system average by a few spots, but not for us, YET.

Re-arraign based on total class size, and 44 of the 100 teams listed have more than 21 recruits/signees. And oddly, at the moment, exactly 44 have less than 21 signees.

12 teams (like UK) are perfectly balanced as the median number at 21 . . . likely also the average within a shade.

If Stoops hangs on to 8 Four Star signees and a 3.38 average Star rating, it will be among the Top 5 classes he has signed based on Rivals’ analysis.

Sounds like someone “ponied up!”

There talking about portal guys but you are correct about HS recruits

I can't believe Stoops is gonna run it back with the same coaching staff (except WR coach, who got out while he could) but I would like to see the following changes.
Hamdan- he might be the worst OC Stoops has had and that's saying something
Stewart- not a great recruiter and the DL constantly underachieves; LeBlanc was way better
Mike Stoops- LB's have not developed since he's been here
Buffano- not a good recruiter or coach; safeties are always out of position

While I think Marrow and Wolford are bad position coaches, they recruit like madmen so you have to keep them. Although, it seems like Marrow's talent eveluation has taken a big hit the last few years.

Hardly Gilmore just hit the portal big loss.

One more reason to doubt the future of this offense under Bush Hamden. When the youngest kids with the highest potential for success leave the program, it gives me very little hope for improvement. It's one thing when kids that have one year left leave for a big pay day, it's another when the kids looked at as the "new beginning" for your program leave.

SAD

I doubt Bush is the problem. It's his boss.

It's another thing when that isn't as cut and dried given fake NIL and free agency.

Was hanging out with a buddy of mine at a sports bar while the Bears choked against the Seahawks. He's a Bears fan from way back, like me, but still follows the team a little more closely than I do.

We were talking about the Bears and their perennial QB nightmare of the past (nearly) 40 years. The perfect example of their quandary is that their best success since the super bowl victory has been delivered by (ridiculously disparagingly named) "game manager" rather than (ridiculously overhypingly named) "gunslinger" types. They got into Super Bowl contention by having decent QB play that didn't hurt the team. They lost by the reversion of the QB position into taking chances that didn't need to be and shouldn't have been taken.

Same happened to the Carolina Panthers when Cam reverted to selfish/"it's.all.about.Cam" Newton. Cutler, Grossman, (Cam at Carolina), and (hopefully not long term) Williams were seen as the "gunslinger" types, and when they tried to do too much they hurt their team.

Kentucky has done better when they've had a QB that can read defenses and options when necessary, rather than try to make the big play. They do better with a leader and a hard working mentality at QB and an offense that reflects that at the other skill positions. That kid of QB can make an OL look better, and keep a defense tested and energized.

When the QB has to take chances or fixates on one WR instead of progressing through their reads, the odds of success diminish exponentially. That's what we had this past year. The offense didn't play to its strengths, and the QB didn't read the defense or progress through the reads properly.

We were too focused on the big play at too many positions- OC, WR, QB, and even RB at times.

Getting back to the winning football we've enjoyed will not be enough for most UK fans who want the hype and the glamour that bigger football programs have earned or bought. That's UKs biggest problem I've seen since I've been living here.

The majority of UK fans are never happy being UK when it comes to football. They always want to be or be seen as someone or something else without putting in the time or the effort. They talk a lot of sht, but they don't even know much about the team itself. One of them asked a friend of mine a few days ago, "How is UK going to recruit now that Marrow has left for Louisville?!" I kid you not.

Contrast that with Georgia fans throughout the Mark Richt and early Smart years. Iowa fans. VTech fans. So many other programs... They know who they are and embrace it. Championships or no championships.

But not UK fans. They change like the wind. Superstitious and/or negative first, optimistic rarely or for the first few minutes after a 10 win season. They love the gunslinger types and big play offenses, just like most of Chicago, regardless of where it takes them.

I know this, UK fans FILLED Commonwealth Stadium over the past 2 seasons and were active during the big games, yet haven't seen an SEC win!!

Our fans in NO WAY are the problem!!!

We haven't had a "gunslinger type and big play offense" since the Mumme days. Has Coach Stoops done things no other coach at UK has done since the Bear or Curci, SURE, but right now he is WAAAAAAYYYYY behind the times on how to win in the SEC. Heck Saban and Smart figured out that you have to SCORE MORE to win and they were both die hard defensive guys. It's about adapting to the progression of the game and Coach Stoops hasn't.

Our SUPER-LOYAL fans are just STARVED for success. And they see schools like USC, Mizzou and Ole Miss doing it with about the same amount of financial support or even LESS!!!

They are different problems. You are the one conflating them and over-reacting to a comment. It's expected though

Doesn't stop anyone here from pining for one constantly.

He isnt/wasn't "WAAAAAAYYYYY behind the times on how to win AT UK in the SEC" though.

Heck Saban and Smart figured out that you have to SCORE MORE to win and they were both die hard defensive guys. It's about adapting to the progression of the game and Coach Stoops hasn't.

Lol. Trying to play like UGA and Bama also puts you in direct competition for recruits with pedigreed football programs... like UGA and Bama, and a couple dozen other schools. He had a formula that was working and upon which UK was building, and he went away from it in recruiting and coordinating, culminating in a year full of blown opportunities this year.

Our SUPER-LOYAL fans are just STARVED for success. And they see schools like USC, Mizzou and Ole Miss doing it with about the same amount of financial support or even LESS!!!

They aren't "SUPER-LOYAL fans ... just STARVED for success" when they've been calling for Stoops head since he got here, and complaining about "style of play" incessantly throughout 8 straight bowl seasons.

There are some AWESOME fans that show up for games. 30-40k core that are solid football supporters. There are enough in the LOD that are simply "STARVED for stardom" and know nothing about football and can't accept UK for what it is, its limits, and their part in limiting it. That's where it will struggle until they die off.

Until the basketball mentality dies off, UK Football will continue to struggle. UK will not land an awesome QB, OL, and WR group while people are complaining about ticket prices and refusing to put Football recruiting FIRST AND FOREMOST in UKAA expenditures. If you want to make the playoff, the money needs to be allocated to football recruiting proportionately to what it is for basketball recruiting.

You don't get to be great by nickel&diming your recruiting. This is an entertainment business, and you're already at a deficit being UK Football in a perceived "basketball" state. You can't win the conference by matching what other schools are doing. You have to bury them by comparison. You have to overpay your Coach. You have to upgrade your facilities OVER AND ABOVE what your competitors have and STAY AHEAD. IF you can't afford it, then you can't afford it, and you just accept occasional success, rather than getting suicidal during the down years.

Very telli.g to me that Stoops basically made no coaching changes so far. He obviously isn't trying very hard is he. Keep doing what you been doing , You keep getting what you been getting.

Bowl season is in full swing, are you wanting to hire someone who is either coaching at a place who isnt Bowl eligible or someone who abandons his team with games to play. The best coaches are still playing.
