Did we upgrade a single position in the portal?

According to On3, we have the 11th best class (down from 8th) in terms of rankings of guys coming in vs rankings of guys going out.

We have a borderline top 10 (11th in On3 and 10th in 247) portal class.

I believe we upgraded at OL, RB and potentially QB.

Running back. Dowdell had 12 rushing TDs while our entire team only had 11.

I have to assume QB and OL because they couldn't get much worse.

I hope the o-line is better, but like you said it almost can't get worse. I like pairing a short yardage back like Dowdell with Wilcox who is a good back but didn't show much in short yardage situations last year.

Addition by subtraction sometimes.
That is so much coach speak…Stoops and Bush and Wolford had a disaster season….snd Stoops has commanded the ship on quite a few offensive disasters

Last year we were sold Mincey from Tennessee, Farmer from Florida, Brock from UGA, Traynum from Ohio st, etc

Now we’re being sold kids from smaller programs and now we don’t have Brown, Key and some returning players to compliment

As stated the offense couldn’t be any worse…but I don’t see a big uptick to be honest. Smells like stoops and Mitch are just selling crap to cover their awful decisions

I agree with a couple of these points. Brown and Key are mehs to me.

It's not like this is the first year the O'line has been a disaster. Ever since Schlarman died the whole thing has been on a deep downhill slope. We have blamed it on the O'line coach every year, even going so far as to fire Yesner.

Well, Yesner went to the Houston Texans. The Texans now have the best O'line in the entire NFL. So...it appears that Yesner wasn't really the issue after all. Nor any of the SIX OCs that have been here.

OCs fault? Well, Tampa Bay is playoff bound, and he who shall not be named, has the fifth ranked scoring offense in his first year.

What about the WRs? I can't say I remember any truly exceptional WRs coming out of this program in the last twelve years. Wandale maybe. What happened to the most talented WR room in UK history? WR coach's fault again? Idk, we've had seven during Stoop's tenure.

Unless the problem is finally identified I can't see it being fixed. If you need a hint the answer rhymes with Poops.

I just don’t see it with the calzada guy at all. I don’t get why they took him or how he improves Kentucky in any way.

Well definitely QB considering it couldn’t get any worse. Calzada might not be Will Levis but he is certainly not BVG.
Oh come on....Calzada has not shown in 4 years to be anything like a Levis caliber of talent/potential. We need to not try to hype up things...we've been sold on a ton higher rated portal kids. To sale me on this class will be the one....pure baloney.

I think Maclin can be a solid receiver and will be targeted much more with Key and Brown gone. Law was the 2nd leading receiver at Oklahoma is is a top 100 portal player. Hoping Farrier and/or Rodriguez step up. It’s obviously an area of concern, but I don’t think the cabinet is empty.
Gilmore was raved about prior to getting injured, also, so he should figure into the WR picture.

I quite literally said he isn’t Levis… but he is definitely better than BVG.

If he can hit a receiver in stride on a 5-yard slant it would be an improvement over the last few years.
No matter who the QB is, it would also help if we would actually call a 5 yard slant instead of deep shots down the sideline or swing passes with relatively little in between. Our QB talent has definitely been spotty at best, but our scheme hasn’t done them any favors. Those kind of short quick throws the rest of the conference makes to look effortless just don’t happen much for us, and I think a lot of it is on the play design and play calling intentionally avoiding those kind of throws even though it makes no sense.

I get your point but the Texans Oline hasn’t been good this year lol

Bingo

Like what we’ve done for the most part. Oline should be much better but they need to find another tackle. Like the back should help with our shirt yardage and red zone issues. Need another starting at WR and we will see how Calzada is but I doubt he’s worse then Brock was this year

Really ? You do not think he will play better than BV ??? LOL, he HAS to be a upgrade.

To the OP's question,
Also, signed the kid from Arkansas and the WKU center, both better than previous. Same for Dowdell at RB. SO yes, we got better on the OL, QB, and RB. Jury still out on the DL, WR, and other positions, still a ways to go, we do not know who else commits.

I think they’ve done a good job focusing on improving the blocking, even at the WR and TE spots. Then got a good 3rd and short RB and a better running QB (at least his last year), which is a long winded way to say that Stoops seems to have matched his players to his style for the first time in a while.

I’m not sure on the defense though but they’ve added a lot there.

😀 look the recruiting class last year I thought was pretty good.
Better than this one actually! Where's my five star Dumas Johnson in this class? Our five star quarterback transfer?

Look how that went. We lost regardless.

I'm headed over to the thread that says:
Bump this when coach stupid is fired

I love participating in these threads.

I’ve learned a lot about football in 28 years of reading.

Occasionally, with directly contradictory statements, you learn that some have no idea what they are taking about.

In this instance I have no idea which one it is.

Lmao well CJ has been sacked 47 times and that’s like second most in the league. I’ll let you be the judge.

I too have learned a great deal about satire from reading this site.

This is what happens you type a whole bunch of words in a short amount of time while prepping for dinner and forget three key ones.

The Texans are better than last year but are considered by some to be above average around 10-12th. Stroud is a blackhole and holds the ball forever.

I think we have made some major upgrades in talent. And you guys don’t even take into account the guys we resdshirted this past season. Team success is won if lost by the play at the line of scrimmage. Last year was abysmal. We’ve gotten much better on the offensive side. Now we gotta focus on defense and special teams.
