Diallo projected 2nd round

Again, this was all EXPECTED FROM DAY 1. Diallo and Cam want to hear directly from scouts what needs to be done for Diallo to be lottery worthy next year.

Nothing has changed at all since then.

Diallo, Cam, and Bamba will close out the class barring a miracle.

In my completely worthless opinion as always.

15 is kind of high, I would think bottom 5 if a first rounder. There are always a few foreigners stashed in the midrounds.

I meant they will risk it if they feel that he could potentially be a top 5 pick later. I was responding to the post that acted as if they wouldn't.

I honestly can't see him leaving right now. I think he is just going to see what he needs to work on this year at UK, then he will raise his stock significantly. I mean even if he is first round it would be lower first round, he can come to UK and become lottery and earn big bucks. In other words come to UK for one year then he will add on millions to his contract.

I am hoping this time next month every one is talking about our top ten team by getting Diallio, Bamba, and Johnson. Miss on two to three of those then UK will likely make the tournament but it wouldn't be a long stay.
Very intelligent decision on his part. Seems like a smart kid and we are gonna love watching him in a UK uniform next season.

What majority are you talking about?

99.99% likely feel this way.

Either I stated my thoughts incorrectly or you misunderstood my post... I think ? Every time I post something in a negative light or my displeasure with the one and done philosophy posters respond by saying I'm wrong, selfish, and it should be all about getting these kids to the NBA as quickly as possible. That's what I get every time so that's where I get my 'majority' comment. My post said I was in agreement that I hope he stunk it up in his workouts and camecback to UK. That means I'm hoping he doesn't reach his NBA dream without playing even one game for UK. The theme has been that I'm selfish to feel this way. Make sense ?

Yes you are missing the point.

You play the victim in so many posts that you can't see the forest for the trees.

Not one sensible poster wants kids to leave early.

That said, not one sensible poster doesn't understand and wish the best for an extremely highly rated kid making the decision to leave AFTER the decision is made.

Sensible posters especially do not want kids without guarantees to leave at all.

Cal knows the studs will go and recruits accordingly.

The Dakari's, Briscoes and Hump's screw things up.

I still can't help but think.. God forbid you play just 1 year of college. Yeah, I get that an injury could happen.. but jesus, like 0.3% of players have injuries that could be career jeopardizing.. Giles had 3 of them.. and he's still getting drafted after 1 year.

This whole "bubble boy" concept around playing just a BIT of college ball is getting out of hand..

But if he's guaranteed a 3-year, multi-million dollar contract (as a first round pick), that decision becomes a lot harder. I know we as die-hard UK fans have a hard time realizing this, but many of these top kids don't care much about playing for a specific college. They go there as it's their best way to get to the NBA and the before mentioned multi-million dollar contract.

Is that what the college game has come to, trickery? I mean, "it is what it is" I guess. But if a player thinks he's THAT good, and many of them do, then why not play into a top pick?

Because lots of times it doesn't matter if you improve. That extra year is worth more than anything. Look at our guys who came back: Twins, Dakari, Poythress, Briscoe, etc. Every one of them became a better player than they were as freshmen, but it didn't (won't) matter on draft night.

Basically, teams have an idea of what you are and what you can be. Another year may improve what you are, but the teams are drafting based on what you can be, and that goes down with each year and with each game that they have to pick your flaws apart.

The exception is usually the athletically gifted but raw guys like Willie. It's why Bam had a real decision to make (though I think he chose correctly and stock will rise in workouts) and why Diallo will probably come back. He's just green right now. They want to see him prove he can play against someone other than high school players in a game environment.

While this may not be new for GM's.. it seems the notion of "Let's not show them anything so they can take a REAL gamble" is new to a lot of fans, including myself. The rest of the college ball landscape (the fans) have no idea of this trend.

What does this mean for the college game over the next decade? What does it mean over the next 25 years?

This is not common. The majority of HS players won't meet both NBA qualification.

He was always going to test the waters and was always going to come back, too. And Calipari knew this. There's going to be a lot of post and tweet deleting once he officially decides to come back too..

My gut feel is he'll be back. It makes sense that he'd want to see what his NBA value might be and he can't be ambivalent about his commitment to the draft or his draft stock will drop. So, he has to play it as if he's all-in. But it seems obvious to me that with just 1 season at UK, he could go from 2nd round to a lottery pick. I think he'll realize that too and ultimately play for the Cats next year.

I disagree. The NBA put the OAD rule in because they didn't want to keep taking players right out of HS with nothing to go on other than against HS competition. They want to see them play a year and get a good scouting report on them. Diallo can kill the combine, but they have NOTHING to go on with actual on the court performance. GMs can do what they want, but if they take a guy like him with no real info and he doesn't pan out, that's on them.
Except this already happened last year with good initial results, Thon Maker.

We used to have some decent back and forth and I thought you made some good points. I'm not playing a victim any more than you're playing like you know things that you don't. You keep on thinking what you want and I'll do the same. Peace.

Every other post you mention how posters get on you about your opinion.

There are no personal attacks, at least not from me. I enjoy our back and forth.

And I do know things, such as correctly disagreeing with you classifying everyone as having the opinion that we are all fine with kids leaving early just because we understand their decision and knew it was coming (guaranteed first rounders). We would much rather them stay, I promise.

No sense in whining about highly projected kids, the others however are super frustrating.
