ESPN wrote of Doncic's night, "Add the assists in there, and nobody in NBA history had as many points, rebounds and assists in the same game as Doncic did on Friday." (73 pts, 10 rebounds, 7 assists = 90)

On Chamberlain's record 100 point night, he also had 25 rebounds and 2 assists (127)

I just read the story about Wilt's game: the Knicks kept fouling other players to minimize Chamberlain's impact. The 76s began quickly fouling Knicks to counter.

-edit-

I just looked at the whole box score. 3 Knicks scored +30 that night.

Sounds like ESPN needs to hire somebody that's passed 2nd grade math. Or is that 1st grade math? It's been a while since I was in early gradeschool, went to 1st grade in a one room elementary school(grades 1-8). I was both 1st and last in my 1st grade class.

Wilt payed for the Warriors when he scored 100 pts in 1962. The 76ers moved to Philly a year later.

I think it’s time for the NBA to assess whether it went too far with the rule changes to remove defensive physicality. That doesn’t mean we need to return the 90s brutal ball stuff, but geez, at least allow more than they are now.

The stat inflation the last few years has gotten ridiculous. It’s simply become too damn easy to score … and largely because of the league’s efforts to tie the hands of defenders.

I'll be honest. Once they leave Kentucky, I just don't follow them anymore. I'm not really a pro sports fan. Cool to see him doing well though.

I mean it’s pretty obvious. Doncic obviously hit some ridiculous shots tonight but when 4 guys approach 70 points in one week that says a lot about the rules.

An interesting thing(to me anyway) about that incredibly high game score is that it was not the product of players being as skilled as those of today or of rules changes to favor the offensive players. It was because the game is so young that little defensive things like doubling the post just hadn't been invented(thought of?) yet. Wilt caused doubling the post to be invented; that's why his scoring average went down 13 points or so the next year, he didn't just get lazy. If you've heard about his off court exploits you know he wasn't lazy.

It really is crazy how dramatically the way NBA games are officiated has changed in just the last couple decades.

Go back and watch some of those playoff games from the late 1990s and then watch the way NBA games are played today. It’s like a night and day difference. Back then defenses were allowed to basically beat the shit out of guys. Now they’re barely allowed to breathe on them. And I’m not saying either approach is entirely right, but geez, you’d think the league would be able to find some happy medium in between those two extremes.

How many points could Michael Jordan have gotten against defenses as they’re played today?

It’s not just hie defenses have been handcuffed either but also how much leeway the offense has been given. Players are allowed to travel, carry, double dribble, basically do whatever the hell they want. It’s not basketball anymore. Gave that shit up a long time ago, won’t ever go back and I was once a huge NBA fan. It’s total garbage now. No offense to those who like it, just not for me any longer.

He would have gotten Wilt numbers

I prefer the 90s style with elite defense and possessions where each fan base was holding on for dear life. It created real rivalries and genuine disdain amongst players.

Now, everyone is buddy-buddy and players are as concerned about what skinny pant suit they're going to wear to the presser as they are with the win. It's a diva league now. There's no bad blood. There's very little hatred. Now it's just chuck 40 threes a night and dab it up with your boy at center court once the clock sounds.

I hate the modern product because it's passionless.

He would have 60 every other week for sure. Probably 70, he would average 20+ FT’s a game. So would Kobe.

I watched the whole Mavs game, and I bet Luka had 30 points right at the basket. Obviously the Hawks weren't playing much D, but they did start to face guard Luka in the 4th. The thing about the game now is how the 3 point shot has taken over, and the range these guys can shoot from. It's almost like teams will give up a layup to avoid giving an open look at a three. I wonder if a really spread out match-up 2-3 zone might work in today's game.

He hit a few difficult shots but Doncic was able to get to rim with ease.

NBA defenses are a complete joke these days.

Towns and Booker scored a combined 124 points in their respective games this week but our entire team only managed 64 against Wisconsin 🤦‍♂️

Booker had 29 in the 1st quarter last night at Indiana- I watched the entire first half and live in Phoenix so I watch some of the Suns games- Booker has great range, can really shoot- IMO, I think the officials are terrible in the NBA and college- guys never get touched and have fouls called on the defense and then I see guys get hammered and no foul is called - officials have so much control on how games play out
