Deron Feldhaus

Pratt was before I can remember but did he have a good shot from the outside?
Doesn't seem like nobody else is going to answer so I will. Yes, Pratt was a wing that played with Issel and he was an excellent perimeter shooter. He was not a supporting cast member; he was more Issel's star sidekick(I think he scored about 20 ppg his best year and that was with Issel scoring closer to 30 ppg).

Is Noah a more talented Feldhaus or do I have the obvious bias of Kentucky mountain boy and nose-for-the-ball blue collar comparison? Noah is more deadly from three. Feldhaus was/is two inches taller and a three. Noah can play the two or three.

Giving Laettner a push (before the Dukie stomped on Aminu) plus being a double digit senior scorer on The Unforgettables, always endeared me to the Mason County product. A great sixth man and will always be "unforgettable".

I think he had a career in Japan. I just can't help but be reminded of him when I watch Noah.
Feldhaus is who he’s reminded me of thus far. I’m glad somebody said what I’ve been thinking. Gonna be fun to watch him come along! I’ve missed the days of being able to watch an actual freshman to senior career here. With Pope I believe we’ ll see more of that again and to me it’s a good thing for the program.

A few thoughts on this one:

1. Deron was the first player off the bench his RS freshman year averaging almost 16 mpg with his role increasing as the season went on. The last 4 games of the season he went for 8/5, 10/10, 11/8 and 9/5. That team sucked big time though so tough comparison there.

2. Deron’s style changed drastically after his RS freshman year when Pitino came on board. He shot 6 3’s as a freshman and 88 as a sophomore. I think sophomore forward Feldhaus is a much better comparison than freshman Feldhaus, but that player was also 2 years older than Noah.

3. I can’t say this last part loud enough. Feldhaus was one of the best 3 point shooters from the forward position that this program has ever seen so I have no idea why people are saying Noah is a better shooter. I get we are comparing freshman seasons, but tough to compare Eddie Sutton Feldhaus vs Mark Pope Trent Noah, but Deron was a really good outside shooter at UK ahd if Noah can match that success from 3 over his career, he will be a really good player.
Because Noah has made his name by being the 3rd leading scorer in ky hs basketball history. He has taken and made a lot of 3 pt shots.
No one is dogging Feldhaus.
How are things in Mason Co?
Say hey to Norbert for me.

That was an interesting response. The only thing i brought up where I think some people are underestimating Feldhaus in is his 3 point shooting. He took and made a lot at UK. Being one of the best non-guard shooters in UK history is pretty impressive.

I think Noah is going to be a really good player at UK. If he can match Deron’s output his last 3 years here, that would be awesome.

Let a KY kid play a handful of minutes in their entire career and do a couple of good things, and some people will start comparing them to Michael Jordan.

If Noah wasn't from KY, people either wouldn't even be mentioning him or would be wondering why Pope has such odd lineups when Noah was in the game.

I think I'll start a thread: Noah or Larry Bird, who is better?
Nope...kid could've been from Bumfudge, Iraq and a suspected Taliban and he'd still be getting his praises sung after coming off the bench to drop 3 bombs on ut's head and playing an instrumental role in the season sweep. Besides the point that I've seen Feldhaus comparisons for Noah before on this board.

Correct. He was not a support player. He was a star in his own right. If you go back and look at the box scores all through his career but especially his senior year when Mike Casey sat out due to the car accident, most nights he would have been the leading scorer, rebounder, and assist player on 90% of teams in America. He was tough as nails and was great anticipating. Both he and Issel had much bigger roles their senior year and Issel really emerged scoring wise because of Casey’s absence. Mike Casey was arguably the most complete player of Coach Rupp’s time and in that complete player list of all time UK. I know Pratt did and I think Issel would tell you Mike Casey was the best of the three period.

Mike Casey should have a banner hanging.
