Depth chart

One random thought. We have a long snapper (punts) and short snapper (fieldgoals) listed, which are different guys. Have we had that before?

Wondered the same thing. Was also curious why Wilson Berry is both a freshman and a sophomore depending on the position he plays. 😂

Somewhat surprised there's no sighting of Christman/Bingham as back up OGs. Goes back to discussions/comments previously....UK needs significant upgrades in OL recruiting.

Christman is out for year with ACL. Bingham was a 4* recruit. Goodwin was a 5* recruit. We’ve won our share of recruiting battles for OL. But, I agree, we need to see better production this year. I realize coaches have different philosophies about rotating OL. But, I’d like to see what our depth also looks like.

Didn't know Christman was hurt. Go back and look at OL recruiting classes beginning on '20. Depressing.

I think Flax starts, we'll see if he keeps the job beyond Sat

Hello long snapper, hope I never see or hear your name the rest of 2023
Ronald Gaines the Illinois transfer - don't want to jinx him but he's suppose to be automatic. He and the new Kicker Raynor from Ga. Southern who is near perfect from 45 in are the two best kept secrets on the roster.

If flax is starting then Kentucky is in trouble
No offense. But, when fans make such conclusions, it’s kind of sucky (euphemism). You are not there day to to day. The staff has said he has improved and that Ford can be dominant, but needs to be consistent. Just wait and see. When players improve, they deserve credit for their hard work, not fans declaring they are who they used to be.

Totally agree. There were many issues with the O-line last year some of which had nothing to do with the players. Some people talk about Flax like he's chopped liver, but this kid was a 4 star recruit that had offers from over 30 different FBS schools including Tennessee, Arkansas and Auburn. I don't think all those coaching staffs were blind.

Yeah and who knows, maybe the technique changes going back to OC Coen might have a significant positive impact as well.

The good ole no offense before you go off on somebody(joking if people can’t tell I’m joking). The staff won’t come out and say he is playing bad, they won’t bash a player like that. He wasn’t good last year, and in my opinion if he Kentuckys starter long term they are in trouble. If flax improves and is good I will give him the credit he deserves and admit I’m wrong. But anyways respect the viewpoint, and let’s hope flax makes me look stupid

I think that Bowles is Burtons backup in case of injury. Do not think he will be rotating there. With Bowles a senior it looks like they want to give him a chance to play some. Not that he hasn't earned playing time, but that is probably why he is backing up two positions. It is good to have two ROT to go to in case of injury and it is a situation where game play will work out who should be out there most of the time at least. So not a bad thing with them being fairly close at least so we have that extra body there. It is good that we have another LOT that can be developed separate from the ROT to backup M Cox. Ray has the size and a perfect guy to learn from for a year. I like it that Rodriguez is in the two deep at LOG. Being around two years and with his size we need him ready next season at that position. Getting some playing time this season should set him up well for next season. Bingham is a surprise to me just because I heard some good things about him last season. Fortunately if he isn't quite ready he will have another year to get even stronger and to mature even more mentally. He has the body and with Cox and Bowles seniors we will need him to be ready next season to at least be in the rotation at guard.

Little surprised that Dinkins wasn't in the two deep but that just shows how deep we are on the DL. He will be an excellent player to step in when an injury occurs. And we saw he was an effective player last season when he did get in there. Three players I don't really know what to expect from them are Hairston, Hardaway and Thrower. We need those three to be good with the experience they have had so far. If any of the three is not ready for the two deep then going with a more inexperienced player would be even more growing pains. We also need Wade to step up this year behind Afari. It is his time to start making a move this season.

Nobody went off on you. You might feel called out for voicing what's been repeatedly and consistently been discussed on this board as an unpopular opinion, but nobody attacked you – just your position and what was said. The staff has a more intimate knowledge of Flax's progress than any of the folks on this board – even you, even me, and even big names who know ball like Freddie Maggard.

Caveman's response was respectful and leveled at what was said instead of the person. It stands to reason that Flax has busted his ass this off-season and improved like the coaches have said. At worst, he's indispensable depth.

JP it was a joke. But in life when ever somebody says” no offense” before a comment, 99.999999% of the time the comment will be offensive. I respect caveman’s viewpoint and was joking

I would not be surprised at all so see them rotate 3 deep on the D-line. They got they dudes to do it.
We also need Wade to step up this year behind Afari. It is his time to start making a move this season.
Wade starts at Sam. Afari is a DB that replaces the SAM in the nickle which they will run probably half the time so one isn't "behind" the other as they actually play different positions, they just won't be on the field at the same time.

Fair enough. Joking tone didn't come through upon first read, but I can see it. I agree the "no offense" thing is hilarious.
Yeah that my bad I read it again, I make the mistake of the way I read in my mind and thinking it comes off the Same way on here, I put joking in quotations now. But yeah my boss at work says no offense all the time then either roasts me or gives me hell. On flex I hope he made the improvements, I just have PTSD from last year watching levis nearly get killed every game

I hope you're right. I know he could have improved. We don't see the every day practices as you said. What they can see is with the eye he looks like he isn't in good shape. It had been mentioned in several pics from their workouts etc. We all hope he is all-sec. At this point I am skeptical. We will see

1. Right tackle will be the main focus ….
2. Ox at De? I thought he was bulking back up to depth behind Walker
I thought that was strange as well. I read where a poster from North Hardin area that knew him, seen him in that area and said he didn'took like he had gained any weight. They switched him and Saunders. Prob going to move those two around and see how it goes.

Matt Elum was offered by Bama. Just saying.

I’m in your way of thinking too. At fan day he looked horribly out of shape. If he’s working hard as the coaches say it sure wasn’t in the weight/ Training room. You are correct that coaches will always say “ He’s working hard, improving “. Always. It’s coachspeak. Only thing is they did list Flax first on the depth chart with an OR…. So he has either improved or Ford is struggling. We will find out in 6 days. Last year we gave up 4 sacks in the first game. Let’s hope that improves.

The staff should have added another OL piece for sure, along with another CB, and maybe a WR

When you look at this depth chart, it is apparent we can't know exactly what to expect. There are so many positions on it filled by players that weren't in Lexington last year. There are 10 positions out of 28 on offense including two freshmen. On special teams, there are 5 out of 18 including two filled by a freshman. Defense only has 4 with only one filled by a freshman. There are also 6 redshirt freshmen on the lists. Having this much turnover in the depth chart is not a harbinger of success based on Kentucky's history.

OL is really young though. If a couple of the young guys come on this year then we look pretty good for the future. We missed on a couple guys 2 or 3 years ago that didn't pan out. That's the problem.

I tried to tell people here that K Silver was getting first team reps at DT and was told no he wasn't. Being an Or with Hayes certainly proves the info I was getting was legit.

Also, Don't Worry about it -please don't ruin out football season over here, ok? You have made the basketball board unreadable.
100% correct on K Silver. Wingspan is like 7 foot!..lol

Linebackers has a lot of names I don't recognize compared to previous years. Starting 3/4 seems solid. Inexperience behind them. Expect to see them get a lot of run in the beginning. Same in the secondary. But defense is side of the ball that has earned my trust.

Not surprised flax is still likely the starter. Wasn't nearly as bad as people made him out to be. Last year the weakest individual in terms of blocking was dingle by a mile. His blocking needs to improve immensely otherwise I don't see how we play him unless he splits/flexes out.

When Bingham committed I pointed out concern that his hs option system had him constantly releasing and blocking in space. It let him show off impressive athleticism but there was no way to know if he could translate to college because he'd never had to drive block a lineman. Hopefully he gets it figured out.

Man…this take is like the opposite of how I came across things

1. Our starters on offense are pretty much the same guys as last year with the major exception of Qb, Rb and LT. And Leary , Ray Davis and Marques Cox were proven players in college and Ky needed to fill those spots outside of the returning roster

2. On defense there is really only one dude that didn’t play last year as starters…maxwell Harrison. The rest are returning starters or were heavily used depth guys waiting their turn

3. Special teams js as you mentioned a near complete turnover….and for good reason as that unit was maybe worst performance ever at Ky? (And coach was fired as well)

I don’t know why you count backups with redshirt freshman as a bad thing…..most rosters in this age of transfer portal…you just can’t keep experienced player from leaving to get on field

With Coen back and Brad White….barring injury at specific spots…..this squad is going on par with the two Citrus Bowl teams under Stoops. Going to be a blast thjs year
