Noticed my boy wasn't on this week's depth chart. He's played sparingly on special teams and a RS year as a Frosh may be burned. Has to be ready when his number is called!

They'll need him to get as many reps as he can this year to be ready for next year. Wish he could of rs'd but with injuries he's probably gonna need to be ready as the season wears on.

We need to shallack Eastern and Charlotte to get our young uns some reps. Let the freshmen and rsfreshmen get some game time as no time will prepare you like game time. I'm very interested to see how Barker does as well.

One of the few posters on here that can say "my boy" with any credibility.

I'm sure he is still learning and improving, pretty sure they wouldn't have burned his redshirt unless they thought he would be a contributor before the year ends. Thanks for understanding.

From your previous posts I think you understand a lot, he is lucky to have you on his side.

Probably isn't the politically correct thing to say on this thread due to the OP. I have great respect for KG and his abilities and also great respect for our coaching staff but ...

...playing this youngster in that first game this season was a mistake IMO. One of the few I'd put on this staff.

Now he may really come on gangbusters later in the season but as our OLB's get eligible and more healthy, Kengera's chance for meaningful minutes pretty much evaporate.

Very talented kid. Lucky to keep him away from schools like Alabama. That said, it's hard for a player in the front seven to come in as a true freshman and be very high on the depth chart. I think he'll get quality reps before this season is out, but I'm curious to see what, if any position, will be his full time position. He has a lot of size, and a lot of versatility. The staff could be considering having him play the DE, he looks like he could get up to 285 and retain a lot of speed and athleticism, so I think he could turn out to be an absolute stud at that position.
The slip in the depth chart could possibly be a product of not having all of the wrinkles worked out in our defense just yet. We'll see how things unfold.

Definitely understand. As a parent, I am glad to see the development of players from previous classes develop to the level needed to be competitive in this conference, excited for Hatch coming back and hopes he helps to bring a much needed pass rush, it's a confirmation to a degree that the system works if you put in the work.

He has gotten some reps on special teams, mainly punt return.

These two early games turned into battles so not many got minutes that the staff hoped to. But this will change and I know KG will do well, he seems to be a fighter and a good kid. You must be a great Dad.

I think we will see a lot more out of the freshman who are playing as the year goes on as they are developed over the course of the year. I think as the year goes Jones Allen and Daniel will all see much more time look for that jump to occur during the bye week when there can be a lot of work not just game prep.

Is it too late to get a redshirt? With Hatcher back maybe it would be a thought? Sometimes a true fr can tell if a 5th year would be the best thing strength and maturity wise rather than the first year. I had a friend who was determined to play but quickly found out he wasn't ready. Took his redshirt as a soph. Helped him. Good luck! Will be pulling for Kengera!

Damn...that sucks that he has played. I really thought the coaches would hold him out for a redshirt. I also think it was a mistake not to redshirt him.
Mr Daniel, where is your son getting snaps currently in practice? I know they were cross training him but I was thinking he would get up to about 285 and be a stud hand on the ground DEnd. What are your thoughts on where he ends up and at what weight?

Thanks for all you add to our team and school..

Rather or not it was a mistake to play Kengera Daniel I'll leave up to people smarter then me. However my take is that Coach Stoops' plan going into this season was to really fill out the depth chart as deep as possible including using a lot of true freshmen and the reasons are (1) He does not want to have another mid season meltdown like last season, and lack of depth was the primary reason, more players means more player rotation and less wear and tear (2) He knows he has a damn good team this year that can compete for the East and he wanted to make sure our lineup was going to be as strong as possible.

So while the few snaps Kengera gets now may seem meaningless, come November he may be counted on to come in and contribute, and his preparation and ability to do so might make a huge difference in this, which we all call a game of inches.

Hopefully he can start getting more reps on defense as the season wears on. I can't wait to see him by his junior year, should be a freak on the field. Just tell him to keep working hard on and off the field and he will be fine. With the talent he has, it will be hard to keep him off the field in the coming years.

Stoops has to go into the season with the 2 deep filled at each position with the best two at each spot. If a true frosh fits the bill, they need to be put on that list. Then, we go and play the games.

Playing true freshmen on the road in the SEC for their second game is something you want to avoid if you can.

Before characterizing this either way, let's see how the season plays out. It is game 3 time.

Idk I disagree with this move by the staff. Seems like a total waste of a year of eligibility of one of the players I was most excited about in our last class. If you are not improving your body/conditioning and not getting any useful reps, then what exactly is the point of this season for him? Would have much rather wasted a year of Bell's eligibility (even if they don't play exactly the same position) if we were concerned about 2 deep.

We are only 2 games deep into the season. Injuries, suspensions, poor play, etc happens. He may get meaningful snaps before the year is over.

Not sure it was a mistake. More of a what choice did they have. We needed to red shirt KD and Josh Allen both but we have serious depth issues. Stoops' hand was forced with the injuries and suspensions.

The only problem with this theory is the fact KD only played on a handful of special teams plays. Allen I can understand because he is still our second or third best pass rusher so he'll get meaningful snaps in very important downs all year.

But IF KD is only used as he has been so far and remains 3rd string on the depth chart...then this was a big mistake by the staff. They haven't made many but thus certainly looks like one right now. Hopefully KD gets significant minutes as the year progresses

He is practicing behind Denzel and Jabari. Looks like the plan is to have him play the DE/LB spot with a playing weight of 265-270. He has complete trust in the coaching staff to use him in the way that's best for the team and knows he has to be ready when it's time. It's about getting better everyday at this level and long as CMS sees that he will be good to go. Until then, it's about doing whatever is asked and enjoying the ride, it is shaping up to be an exciting one.

KD was here this spring, so the staff probably has a pretty good idea about how he will project over the course of the season. It took Flannigan a while before the staff put him in as a starter. The current depth chart is the current depth chart.

No bigger fan than I in defending the staff nor any of our players but they're human and make mistakes. I hope they didn't in this case but at this point it appears they may have. Time will tell.

I know most don't like that he's burning a RS year, but I'm under the firm belief that there's nothing like game experience. Even if it's on special teams, he's contributing and bonding with the players in the line up. I trust the Coaches know who has the talent/potential talent to be called upon if needed. So getting used to game speed, the hitting, the atmosphere, etc. are all pluses right now in my book. Good Luck to your son and look forward to him being out there.
