If he can stay healthy he’ll be a star:

Does sort of beg the question why UK’s other well-regarded interior DL can’t break into the top 23. I wouldn’t expect the NT guys to make the list but Ox, Rybka, and maybe Saunders…? I was hoping for a bigger year from at least one of them but Ox, in particular, may be a game away from backing up Walker.

Do that have a stat for "Most Held?" Walker would be way ahead of anybody else.
Through the 1st 5 weeks it was like the officials sent a memo to our opponents saying we are not gonna call holding this week. Then Miss St game they went back to calling it. Someone check the in boxes. Maybe we are not reading the memo???

Number of tackles is misleading Stat. Means defense is getting lots of chances to make tackles. Last season Jordan Davis didn't make many tackles but ate up 2-3, OL every play, defense had lots of 3 and outs and rotated alot of players.
That’s basically in a nutshell what we do and half our fans can’t grasp it. (Insert X player only has 12 tackles for the year we need Better DL comment here) they cannot grasp that almost the only thing our DL does is eat blockers and let the LB crew do their stuff. I mean literally no clue and been running this style for 10+ years.

The pass rush stats are percentage and relative to the competition at their positions. No one is talking about total tackles, or going even further and saying a DT should have as many tackles as a LB. I think you and GrumpyDawg misread.

I think a good/great interior DL, and maybe I'm crazy, in a two-gap scheme should still get some "stops" (also only comparing vs other DL and not OLB, LB, DBs, etc), and win a pass rush vs a C, OG, or OT every now and then. I think average/decent interior DL will just do their main job of occupying blockers in a two-gap, but you aren't winning the SEC banking on linebackers making all the plays.

Besides that, UK plays one-gap schemes (i.e. not occupying a blocker)when in nickel or dime but half of our fans can't grasp that...I mean literally no clue and been running this style since 2014 (the 2013 season was old school 4-3). ;)

I'd bet no other SEC nose tackle last year had anywhere close to 5.5 TFL and 2 sacks. LOL. Leave it to a spoiled Georgia fan to not fully appreciate the luxury. Last season, Kentucky's two nose tackles combined for 5 TFL and 3.5 sacks and we didn't have the depth to rotate as much as UGA. Those guys probably had more snaps than Davis too.

...in any case, as I said in the OP

Not specifically talking about that post just in general I’ve seen fans arguing on here about how the DL sucks because they don’t have crazy tackle stats.

Luxury of what? Anyone who has depth is spoiled?

Anyone with good players and depth is definitely spoiled. Is that even a serious question? Your team just won the natty with one of the best defenses of all time featuring one of the best interior defensive lines in the last decade. l.o.l.

Reread the thread. That's the second time you missed the point being made. Good night!

I love ya, great contributor and poster over here, However, You guys have had an embarrasment of riches regarding talent for the last 4/5 years. Good lord, TAMU had to spend 30 mil to get where, OSU, Bama, & UGA have been recruiting.

Not to mention he got those stats with teams doing everything they could to avoid him altogether. He completely altered everything teams did.

What amazes me about Walker is what he doesn't get credit for. Often a NT/interior DL can be the most influential person during a play, but not be involved in the actual play on the ball nor get credit. And he's doing it very consistently and early in his career. It's very impressive.
