Dennious Jackson

He’s gonna have to give them snaps

Hayes out for season. Silver starts but who is backup now?
Kendrick Gilbert and Tavion Gadson are both ahead of him on the depth chart. He will see some early snaps to see what he's capable of, but I doubt he is in the full rotation early, barring injuries. Hopefully he has the agility and stamina to earn his way on, but I would be surprised if a Juco guy supplants 2 redshirt freshman who've been in the system a year already.

His size makes him much more playable than the other two you mentioned.

15 snaps a game on would be a great outcome from DJ.

His weight gives him advantage, all else being equal, but he doesn't have a year of in system development which earns the coaches' trust. I posted when he committed that I if he earns 10-15 snaps a game at some point this season, then that would be a win. Hopefully he gets that in our opener, so they can determine if he's capable enough against USCjr.

I think Gadson is out with an injury for most or all season? Love Gilbert, but seems light for a SEC nose guard in a 3-4?

Good catch. The depth chart said updated as of Aug 6th, but clearly they missed Stoops' press conference. Looks like he is going to miss most of the season and hopefully Gilbert has put on some weight. If Dane Key can gain 25 pounds in the off season, then I would expect he coul too. BTW, I just checked the 2023 roster and he was listed at 292 pounds, so something seems off. Hopefully it was a misprint.

I think I read somewhere Gilbert is more in the 290 range, but even with that, he's probably too light for a NT except maybe in a pass rush package.

Thanks Satch and Sanders! Yes, 290-some is not overwhelming at all, but I was seeing his updated bio at 6-5 / 275 and was thinking that those physics don't seem to work at all at that position!

I love our linemen and we have quality depth at DT and DE, but I think no one but Silver has experience and that NG heft.

I really hope that Jackson kid is able to help - seems like a great young man but that is a steep curve from where he is coming from to the middle of a def line in the SEC - sending him good vibes....he certainly does not lack heft!

Depth chart I saw updated on 08/06/24 had Gilbert as the backup NG and Gadson as the #3. At running back Wilcox listed at #3 and Patterson at #4. Robinson a frosh at #3 DT. Gilbert about 50 pounds lighter than Silver. And I thought Gadson was out for the year?
UK to my knowledge has not released a depth chart. I could be wrong but these are just guesses by people with very limited knowledge.

Again, go to HUDL and watch the little film that's available. He came from a poor JUCO program, via an Atlanta HS, but there's a lot to like. He has a really good first step, uses his hands really well, nice strength, a space eater. His job in '24 is to plug in for a handful, maybe 12-15 plays/game, to give Silver/Gilbert a blow. UK will float Walker in and out at NG at times. UK has even used JJ Weaver at NG at times in obvious passing situations! '25 will likely be Jackson's year.

Lot of praise for Gilbert after Saturday. Only 270 but using his quickness well. Will only be used in certain situations but has been one of the consistent players making plays.

They will move him around the line and get him plenty of snaps. He can play all 3 positions on the DL

The transfer issues are not overseen by the NCAA or anything.

UK is notoriously difficult to work with as far as transfer credits, and they are not willing to make exceptions for athletes. It’s been a real issue lately.

Looks like no Dennious Jackson this season. White said he has a long way to go. Get him coached up this year then would have him for another year down the road.

I one presser either White and/or Stoops said they were happy with the DL depth.

I’m hoping that he can make significant progress thru the season and provide more relief on the back half
Let's hope he can. I really think his best ball will be next year and beyond. A solid year of good nutrition plus the S&C program should be a huge help.
