Defensive stats for our guards

Was listening to KSR this morning and Matt was saying that Reeves and Sheppard combined are giving up 33% shooting to opponents, while Wagner and Dillingham are giving up 47% combined. This stat is actually encouraging to me as I feel like DJ and Rob, due to their athleticism and speed, could still improve as defenders before we get into the postseason.

I think this number is skewed by opponents desperation in final minutes of the game. The opening 5 minutes of play? Especially at Rupp? That number is probably closer to 84%, which is 46.6% above the national average.

We’re 158th in the country in 2 point percentage defense. Teams are shooting almost 50% on us from 2.

The graphic/tweet above says "teams" shoot lights out against Kentucky, but that rarely seems to be the contention.

The actual contention is that a certain player or two who are at best mediocre shooters come in to Rupp and seem to become Steph Curry from 3 or score at will off banks shots or last second shot clock nonsense. Which is absolutely true.

That was my thought too. How are those guys shooting when someone else is guarding them?
