Dear Cal, "Coach Your Team"

Cal you lazy SOB, I know you are getting at least 4 hrs sleep a night. I even heard you sit down to eat supper. You could be using that wasted time to coach your team.

Or not. Depends on how stupid and unrealistic your perspective is. With all the baiting threads, you'd think they'd have their limit by now.

Hey 3 fan do you just go to every thread you disagree with and tell someone to shut up?

Honestly are you like 12 or something? Not saying i agree with the OP but this is like 4th thread you just tell someone to shut up.

I mean na na boo boo to you to. Why even open and read the threads? All pretty clear in the titles it was something probably about cal. People dont have to shut up. Their are rules if criticism goes past the line mods can step in. Pretty sure we do not need you running around telling people to shut up. Lol and its kinda childish
SHUT UP!!!!

Not once did I say Cal isn't a good Coach or isn't great at getting young players to mesh. The issue in my opinion ( and yes it's just my opinion only) is Cal didn't have this particular team prepared for Ohio State. Hard to prepare a team when you're not there.

You make a good point. I guess every great one, coaches included, slip once or twice.

All I can tell ya is when I was in school, whenever we had a substitute teacher, we didn't work or focus as hard as when our actual teacher was there. And, no, I'm not equating the assistant coaches to substitute teachers. It's the mentality of all kids. When the cat's away, the mice will play.

Piss poor analogy, IMHO. Substitute teachers are usually strangers to the kids, and have very little knowledge of the way the classroom is run when the regular teacher is there. The UK assistant coaches are not strangers to the kids and attend the exact same practice sessions and team meetings all through the season. Not sure how you think they are even close to being the same situation.

I see what OP is saying...Cal was gone a good part of the week...easy for the team to think Cal felt pretty good about the matchup. That mistake eont be made this week

I think some fans def need to step back off the ledge. Without a doubt, we should all be concerned as fans. However, it seemed to me that OSU played out of their minds in the first half to build that ultimately insurmountable lead. I am cautiously optimistic about our second half play. The guys were hustling, getting after it on both ends. Murray stepped out of a slight shooting slump to start the season and may have emerged as this teams go-to-guy. Always best to try and be optimistic. Also jeez guys we are 11 games in with a ton of young talent that clearly is not as game ready as some past Cal and UK recruits.
Hell yeah they played out their minds! Shot %68 in the first half..

This is so ridiculous, that I don't even know what to say. So I'll add one bit of information.

I was at the game Saturday. We sat across from the team benches right on the midcourt line 17 rows up. When Cal was yelling advice to the team you could hear him clearly from where we were sitting. Pretty lazy guy, I guess.

Hmmm I wonder where Cal was before the UCLA game since they pretty much worked us over the same way. Maybe it wasn't a lack of preparation as much as it is softness on our players part. If Tubby were here he would say Alex looks like Tarzan and plays like Jane. Has anyone with his strength had the ball ripped away from them more than Alex? Marcus has played well but isn't a physical presence inside by any means. Skal is a NBA GM's worst nightmare, pass on him with a top 5 pick and you may regret it but draft him....and you may regret it. He is definitely the softest of all. When your toughest guy is the 5'9" point guard you are in deep doo doo.

There's a sign in your office that states "Coach Your Team". Our fanbase and most importantly, our young players need you to do just that. We don't need you to spend 3 days at UMASS celebrating the raising of your banner to the rafters. That's a nice honor and congratulations but by attending that ceremony, your focus was not where it should have been this past week. You should have been HERE giving your team your undivided attention and preparing them for Ohio State. Thad Matta was "Coaching His Team" and it was apparent from the tip off to the final buzzer. Time to get back to the basics, roll your sleeves up, leave the accolades of the past behind and "Coach Your Team".
Dear U9K.............47-3 last two years. It must have been kept secret from you.

Dear Warrior Cat, 6 lottery picks, 9 players drafted in the 1st or 2nd round in the last 2 years. It must have been kept a secret from you.

Piss poor reading comprehension on your part. Did you miss the part where I stated I'm not equating the assistants to substitute teachers? Try harder.

Dear U9K, you must have never played sports before. You just don't roll the ball out as some might think. Most teams (college and pro) take a few years to get their team right. Cal usually does but, sometimes it might take a little longer. Psssssst, here is a little secret, people and players are different. Your welcome.

Yes I'm aware of that. I played D2 football many years ago and we got our arses kicked by teams that had far more superior talent than we did. "You're" welcome.

Posts like this make me seriously consider the mental status of some people on here. Good grief. Get a life or a hobby or something. UMASS honored him. He didn't set it up. They did. I'm sure you are above such things as that. You would have just said thanks but no thanks. No regard for the years he spent there and the people he befriended.

Do us all a favor and stop telling anyone you're a UK fan.
even worse than the post...is all the "likes" it garnered.

The entire premise of the OP was about PREPARATION for the game. Cal's a great Coach. Just didn't have the team prepared. Hopefully, we'll be better prepared for Louisville. I don't like the timing of the game. Wish it were closer to New Year's instead of one day after Christmas.

You are the worst kind of "fan"

Even worse is we actually have fans who think everyone's supposed to be sunshine pumpers.
Not at all, venting is part of fandom however, so is defending when some post seem...........ridiculous. Oh, and by the way, thanks for the spelling (You're) lesson. Sometimes you just get in a hurry.

Wow, just noticed something else I screwed up on, I meant 47-3 in the last 2 years. See, even the great ones like myself make mistakes. 2 already in this thread.

Bash away, I have thick skin. Ohio State was better prepared than we were yesterday. The responsibility lies directly on the Head Coach.
Yes it does, for the most part, and OH ST was better prepared. There is an old saying you might have heard of that has something to do with leading a horse to water...well, you know the rest. He's got them to the water but they haven't gone full in yet and for that the players are somewhat responsible. Still, as you correctly state, the overall responsibility is Cal's and I'm willing to bet a dime to a dollar that Cal has no problem with that; same bet says we'll be a force to reckon with come tournament time. Who'll get the credit then?
