Can we be real for a moment? Pitino and Jurich weren’t dismissed because they were shiftless ne’er-do-wells. They were professionally assassinated largely because of the ego trips of a small number of members of an illegally appointed university board of trustees shoved down the school’s throat by Kentucky Gov. Matthew Bevin, who then used an underperforming, mendacious interim president as their shill.

The CJ Op writer Ricky Jones is a hate filled hack. You'd think he and the CJ would understand that the guy is over 600 days unemployed BECAUSE HE IS DIRTY. But this attempt to rewrite history is just cover for the fact that the CJ was a partner in the narrative that Jurich was the top AD in the land and that our guy was a clown. But a funny thing happened.

When Mitch Barnhart arrived at Kentucky 17 years ago, he operated in the shadows of the athletics director up the road. Tom Jurich was the national star, deservedly so for his job of turning Louisville’s sports program into a national force. Less than two decades later, however, oh how the tables have turned.

Jurich is the one out of a job, fired by U of L for a collection of scandals within the department. And Barnhart is the one now recognized officially as the best in the business. The latter happened Wednesday night at the New York’s Marriott Marquis hotel when the 59-year-old Barnhart was named “Athletic Director of the Year” by Sports Business Journal.

Deservedly so.

Hopefully we will learn to appreciate what we have when it really is a good thing.

It’s easy to look like the world’s greatest AD when you can do things like tap into the university’s endowment to fund operating expenses. But for whatever reason, Jurich defenders just can’t seem to wrap their head around that.

Tapping the endowment PLUS screwing the taxpayers of Louisville by siphoning off all the profit from the YUM Center.....

Be careful, Tom Jurich was very popular on this board...
I wouldn't say very popular in the sense that many liked him, but those that did like him really liked him. And they were out front and open about their overarching philosophy: college athletics is corrupt, so any given school that doesn't operate in a corrupt way is simply naive, and is operating at a disadvantage. Winning is literally all that matters. Fortunately, there aren't many here that subscribe to all that nonsense. But there are some, and it doesn't portend well for the future. This weeks sign of the impending apocalypse......

Since the UNCAA has abrogated its responsibilities to police its members then yeah, Eff them. Cheat like hell. get this MFer burnt down quicker that way.

There were UK fans of here that praised Jurich at every chance, then he got exposed for being the most corrupt A.D. and it shut that nonsense down. The UL fans deserve everything they got because they are still trying to portray that crook as a victim, which is a tired and pathetic pattern that has pervaded every scandal since UNC.

The Tar Heels used state politicians, judges, state attorneys, booster and university payoffs to avoid paying for their crimes. Now every university, coach and fan is going with that tactic. Kansas, LSU, UL and Arizona are trying the same thing on a smaller scale.

Jurich-Ramsey and the board were a unique combination of crooks and thugs. Then you throw in a local media who was bullied into silence while at the same time groveling at the feet of Jurich made for the most corrupt SCHOOL, not just athletics dept, in all the land. The KFC Yum center scheme should have sent Jurich and others to jail.

Any of us could have done what Jurich did with their program if you are made King of your university and given unchecked ability to spend spend spend. You have a media who was bullied into looking the other way. You had an athletics board AND University appointed board that was there due to political appointments and the funneling of cash back to the party and the Gov. who appointed them ILLEGALLY based on the law. There were so many factors that allowed for Jurich to rape and pillage.

In the end no one was willing to rat out the other. Oddly Papa John was powerful enough in his own right to say something...while also the new Gov as noted in the OP was not of the party that was happy allowing things to go on as is. I know a lot of folks hate on Gov Bevin but NONE of this happens without his election.

If I did what Jurich did at a company that employed me than I would be in prison.

He knows where the bodies are buried in town so he is to big to jail.
I don't know, so many of the people that protected him are gone, and I don't think he has any dirt on the new people. Maybe I'm wrong, but there have been some wholesale changes there, in athletics, the President's office and the board of trustees.

There probably have been some good changes made in the department. The new AD seems like a good guy.
Now the cards need to work on their culture. Their pitcher in the CWS made a total ass out of himself last night.

How does saying I would rather have a better AD not make me a cat fan? Jurich is the best. Barnhart is terrible
Jurich has led U6 program where? Do you really like the position that he has put the football and basketball team in? I do blame him, he was in charge and it was on his watch, Whose program is thriving MB or TJ. Who has the better job now. I don't see how this is even debatable

I’d happily take Jurich and fire Barnhart right now.
You are often an outlier, never more so than with this preposterous statement. Jurich is disgraced and in serious trouble for running a department of brazen cheaters, while Barnhart is receiving broad recognition as being among the best ADs in the country. It doesn't take a genius to see where UK's and UL's athletics departments stand right now as a result of their respective styles.

Jurich will remain out of collegiate athletics until a potential employer can be sure he won't be cited by name in a ruling against UL by the NCAA Committee on Infractions. Chances are good that he will be. As long as Jurich's name has not been cleared, nobody (besides you, that is) would be reckless and foolish enough to hire him.

I have a friend that’s a sportswriter (not affiliated with any schools in Kentucky) that would tell me U6 is one of the most corrupt power 6 schools and Jurich is the most corrupt AD (this is long before the stuff broke with U6....I would even put it on Facebook).

Said they all knew, but couldn’t write without “proof” because he was vindictive and would sue them.

Also, Kentucky’s budget was approved this week. Once again, the athletic department is giving millions back to the school (science department and scholarships) while U6, who always claimed to be “most profitable”, took money from the school

I couldn't agree more.

Why would Jurich need to get another job? He's set until he's 92 years old.

As part of the “complete, mutual and amicable” agreement, Jurich will receive $4.5 million in a specific settlement sum. The money will come from the Hickman-Camp Fund, a quasi-endowment for ULAA, a UofL spokesman said.

However, Jurich’s total settlement agreement is worth at least $7.17 million, including $1.76 million in annuity payments through 2025, $911,000 in deferred compensation, healthcare and sports tickets for the next 20 years.

No he’s not! He’s upgraded all the facilities and the coaches! We’re the only school in the country to have a first round pick in all three major pro leagues and we also had a first round pick in softball and soccer! Move along UL fan you outed yourself!
