Dante Dowdell

Little bit bigger than Demi, but similar rushing numbers. Other than he was able to find the end zone 7 more times than Demi. Was Nebraska’s leading rusher. All I know are his stats. No idea what kind of runner he’s capable of being. Has two years of eligibility left. Could be solid pickup. Time will tell.

That's a back that will score from the 1 yard line.
Could be a starter, but really like to see a running back by committee.
Beat up linebackers at the beginning of the game. Then Wilcox can run past them.

Getting Chip back would have been my preference, assuming his attitude was right. But, this looks like a solid get. Our RB room has potential to be pretty good. If Wilcox can protect the ball, he could be a 1,000 yard rusher. Dowdell looks like a guy who can get those yards you need to get on 3rd and 4th down. I think Patterson would have been a tough runner, had he not been dinged.

Looks like a solid pick up and blends much better with Wilcox and Patterson than Demi. Still need more O - linemen and Defensive Edge players to compete

He is a big back, which we need. Now we need another, as much as we love the power run. I don’t understand how we go into every year with no backup plan. We saw what happened when CRod was out. No run game. We saw what happened when Benny got kicked out of the bowl game. No run game. Ray Davis did not have a viable backup last season.

Bottom line, we need this guy to be a hit.

Somebody posted in another thread that he was 24/27 in coverting 3rd / 4th and short situations. So that will be a nice change.

Just curious I was very disappointed in Chip. I thought we hit a home run he looked very slow to me. Maybe was he hurt all year. I just didn’t see it.

This is a HUGE commitment for us. This Nebraska fan lays out a lot regarding him. And I agree, he's coming here to be a 20-25 carry per game back. UK is looking to re-establish the successful power run that we had under Benny and CRod.

Idk about 20-25 carries. This guy ain’t no CRod or Ray Davis. We maybe could recreate them in aggregate though with him and Wilcox

Yeah, I get it. My take was premised on 2 main things. One, he appeared to have been running RB1 or RB1A before he was hurt. Two, Stoops seemed to expect him back and appeared to want him back. So, I assumed we never saw him at his best. I suspect Stoops really wants that back who can run between the tackles and can get the tough short yard situations. I don’t know if they saw Hardy that way or not. But, I think that was Chip and well might be Dowdell.

That guy is getting really close to getting out of his parents’ basement. ;)

I was hoping for some actual cuts to see Dowdell in action. I am also not sure Dowdell comes to UK if he wants to be the 20-25 carry back. The guy only got 20 carries once last year and went over 15 only three times. He got 17 carries in the second to last game, so I am not sure about the reduced role theory. He may not like the OC, but if he entered after another RB entered and upped his NIL, that may have been the cause of his departure.

Wilcox reason for not seeing more touches last year was apparently due to some lack of discipline issues off the field. Letting a lot of little careless things get him in trouble. I think he was used mostly out of necessity at some points when Patterson got hurt and he performed so Stoops couldn’t not use him. I think his staying is an indication he wants to get past that. He could be the feature back. Double his number of carries and he’s easily a 1000 yard rusher. Really sucks that Davis flipped to Mizzou though and Dowdle probably a decent pickup, but Hardy would have made our backfield something we haven’t seen since Snell/Williams.

Started out at Oregon as a freshman, transferred to Nebraska for last year. Very athletic, ran the 200 meters (24.55 as a JR.) and competed in the high jump, 19'3 as a sophomore. Consensus 4*, Top 200 prospect out of high school (Rivals, 247, ESPN) #6 RB. Has to be kin to Rico Dowdell who plays RB for the Cowboys and is having a exceptional year. UT thought they really had this kid before and even after signing with Oregon, them and several other top programs recruited him hard.
