I found it cringeworthy only because it was vs. Vanderbilt. I wouldn’t have a problem with it vs. a Georgia or Alabama.

I loved the helmet tap personally. Didn't need to be called, was akin to tappin' a guy on the ass, good try, move on. Also it was hilarious after the jawing they were doing a few plays earlier and the game was basically outta reach at that point.
Didn't like the tap on the helment but that was the same player that tried to rough him up on a pass that ended up out of bounds and was in his ear.

Which is why I didn't care oo much. Players jaw too much on plays of mild significance. Fair play to let em know about it when you score on them.

The hitting the other players helmet was may have been what people call excessive today. But look at vandys players reaction he didn't snap back or anything. None of us were on the field maybe Key said good coverage bro.

But people need to quit being so soft taunting is a part of sports. You play the game to win. Let the kids have fun.

Just checked, none of yall did an outrage thread 7 days ago when Ray Davis got the same penalty for front flipping into the end zone against Akron

How come?

Dane Key is a 20 year old who undoubtedly got caught up in the heat of the moment. Now am I to believe that none of you 30, 40, 50+ year olds have never gotten caught up in the moment?

You can't taunt another player regardless, it was a bad decision that he got talked to about. If he does it again then you discipline.

At first I thought it was Dane tapping the helmet giving props to the Vandy DB.
Like good coverage compliment but apparently that wasn't it.
I actually thought that too. And still think that.

Ref just took it the wrong way.

Competitors have always given a tap to their opponents on a good play like that.

How come? Smacking an opposing players helmet is not the same as flipping over the goal line in celebration. If I'm honest I didn't know flipping over the goal line was a penalty.

Grow up you old farts. Key taunted a bit no one died.

Just watched Jaxon Dart score a TD in Tuscaloosa & taunt. No flag.
Didn’t affect the outcome of todays game but imagine taking a lead over a florida, TN, or bama at home during the 4th quarter and the same stunt is pulled. Just like that you’re gifting them 15 yards and better starting field position to take the lead and potential game right back from you. Us old farts (as you say) see the bigger picture because well we are grown up. Younguns like yourself apparently still do not, that’s why adults are always in charge.

Because he didn't have to pat/touch another player to celebrate??? He went in clean and just barrel-rolled...

Way too much celebrating on even mediocre plays from entire team. Really, it's embarrassing.
I agree Brown - Childress & Key - come on just make the play lose the performance acts
Make a tackle act a fool catch a pass act a fool
Will not and do not see Bama players do that
Maybe that’s why we look like a undisciplined team most of game

It was a 3 score game after his TD & pat. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't do the same in the scenario you devised.

But had the same result! Kickoff from the 20 instead of 35, set opposition up with excellent starting position to answer a TD given up!

Because that’s the culture? Kobe Bryant who is one of the greatest competitors went after Pau Gasol during the Olympic Games. Pau and Kobe were Great friends, but Kobe was a competitor and shit talked his own friend. It’s just the culture and being competitive
Dane Key, sir, is no Kobe Bryant.

I’m an old man and definitely raised in a different time. I didn’t like the head pat but multiple coaches addressed it on the sideline. He comes from a good family and is a good person. He made a mistake and will hear about it at home. I don’t think it will happen again.

He was a real liabilty today. Takes plays off very ɛoor intensity. Neefs to sit on ɛine a while see if it motivates him.

1 Davis has produced all games this year
2. He dove into the end zone with no opponent near him as a taunt…official was being a puss
3. Key never tries to block for others and drops balls in each game And his td penalty was to ridicule a guy he just beat..not celebrate his own play

Woodyard needs to coach and stop doing the body high five bulljive and trying to fit in with his Wr group…just be a coach

Why did he get penalized and an ass chewing from the coach?
Perhaps because it's wrong and disrespectful conduct!
Do you yell at kids to get off your lawn too? Keep or pop any balls a kid may send into your yard? Certainly seems like it.

Love Dane glad we have him. He will get better with a little more seasoning. Lot of guys hated Valentine last year for playing with an edge. I would rather have a guy you have to calm down than one you have to pump up to get them to play.

Playing with energy vs disrespect.....big difference.

You can't defend your position. So now you attempt insult. Typical.
I haven’t had a single post about anything in this thread other than that one. I don’t have to defend anything. Not only are you cranky, you are apparently senile since you can’t seem to remember who you are arguing with.

So you are just an asshole for no reason at all?

Dane Key comes across as a high-character young man. He was unbelievable as a freshman last year. So far this year, he has had some setbacks. My sense is that it was cathartic and a relief to make a really good play - he probably was letting off steam and made a mistake - big deal - the coaches will coach him up and he is likely to learn from it and unlikely to do it again. I would much rather Key have a bit of his swagger back with Florida and Georgia coming up. The "pearl-clutching" is silly and the desire for some to assume the worst about our kids, who are working hard and trying to win, says much more about the people being critical and judgmental than it does about our player.
