Damned O Line Finally Bit Us Badly

So, if targeting is not called and UK thinks that it might be targeting, can they ask for the play to be reviewed? Or can only an official decide to review it - or is it not reviewable at all because no call was made?
It would cost you a timeout if it’s not. As obvious as it was, the last one against Florida was just as obvious and they picked that one up. It wasn’t shown on TV til late. Not sure our sideline even knew. I give a bit of dispensation to the on field guys, they were all caught up in the fumble. But you know that fumble was reviewed by the so called expert (s) in Birmingham. Once again, calling it didn’t fit their narrative. If that’s not targeting then just get rid of the rule. To me it hasn’t added any level of safety to a defenseless player. It’s become a joke. The targeting call or non call didn’t beat us today. It certainly didn’t help but we gave that game away. Kiffin knows it. Our defense shut down his overrated high octane offense in the second half.

This is a lazy or low effort take. It’s not unreasonable to believe that if we played them again to think we’d win. Hence me saying I think we’re the better overall team. Yeah, we lost today, and being the better team does squat for us now, but that wasn’t the point of my comment.

You veil one slight positive among multiple criticisms and people still find something to bitch about. Get a grip.
I have a grip.....its called a grip on reality, O line is bad and D has no pass rush....those two things will cost this team

Sure should Levis had gotten rid of the ball faster on some occasions sure. There was some WR’s open but man this Oline is horrible because on a lot of plays as soon as he drops back they are already in the backfield ready to eat his lunch. This Oline has been horrendous all year long and if they don’t get it figured out it will be a long long year!

Thanks for some clarification on that.

The O line is definitely an issue, but if you think they blew this game today, you watched a different game than I did.

Our field goal unit left 5 points out there, we lost by 3.

Levis had an awful game. He's had a really bad habit of hanging on to the ball way too long, that cost us today. He takes way way way too many sacks and unnecessary hits. At some point, he has to learn to throw the ball away. You get 3 seconds, unless you know you have good protection. You abdolutely can't take a safety.

That safety gave Ole Miss 2 points, our fg unit missed a fg and 2 extra points. That's 7 points from bone headed garbage.

This wasn't on the O-line.

I can agree there are deficiencies. But this team can still reach incredible heights. All is not lost. I am disappointed because this team blew it on this day. But this season will not be defined by one game and not this game. I feel it.

It was just the perfect storm of missed opportunities and Murphy's Law. There is lots of blame to go around starting with Levis and his bad day, the o-line, the missed field goal, blocked extra point, etc.
Murphy's Law: Barion Brown scores if not tripped up by his own man, Flax goes down with cramps on the play before Levis fumbles and in comes a kid that can't block anybody, targeting not called or reviewed on the Levis fumble, Old Miss player clearly standing on the goal line after a punt, refs review, don't call it, and we wind up with a safety after Levis holds the ball too long again, yada, yada, yada.
No way to win a game with all that working against you. Best just to move on after airing it all out like I just did.

O-Line, especially in regard to pass protection, definitely not a strong point. But Levis has to take a lot of blame in this one. I think he holds the ball too long for the known level of protection he is getting. And the "gutsy" plays he makes are often too aggressive/risky especially when it's not crucial.
Several times where he had a clear pocket and a wide open receiver over the middle but he got skittish and decided to tuck it and run. It's almost reflexive at this point and it's as if he trusts his legs more than his arm sometimes. Really wild to watch yesterday.

Five games in
A few weeks back I heard one of our O-Lineman say that the new o-line coach was teaching a different technique than the past o-line coaches taught. IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT!!!!!!! Over the past 3 or 4 years UK had one of the top 3 or 4 o-lines in all of college football. Now with the new coach teaching a different technique our o-line couldn't block a high school team.

Remember that 3 minute review of Florida’s final fumble at the The Swamp in 2018?

I would have appreciated the same curtesy after Levis’s second fumble.

And I think it was a fumble.

I don't think it was targeting, the rule clearly states a defensive player cannot be hit with crown of helmet, shoulder, forearm or hand to neck and head area. A RB is not a defenseless play when he aggressively is fighting for extra yards. What is a defender suppose to do, get out of the way when a RB lowers his head or get called for targeting?.

Now the 2nd fumble, I thought his arm was moving forward making it an incomplete pass. But my understanding is you have to have a timeout to appeal, because that is the price of a failed appeal.

Trying to run a pro-style offense with the same OLine schemes as the Gran years is a recipe for disaster. We ran a lot of Gran scheme last year out of necessity and the offense was limited as a result.

Also doesn't help that the guys who are in this system now were more or less recruited to a mauler offense and not to be agile linemen in an outside zone scheme.

Can't completely switch offensive philosophies (which was absolutely necessary, btw) and not experience some pain.

I tried telling some of y’all that CRod wouldn’t make them better. Had fan goggles on though. Couldn’t see the truth.

Having said that, Ole Miss was lucky to win today. Both things are true.
You’re not serious. Chris made a positive difference and also turned two screens into big plays.

Compare his yards per carry to last year. I think he’s at 4 yds per carry and I think last year was a touch about 6. He helped, didn’t argue otherwise, but he’s not going to outperform this OL.

I also didn’t say anything about screens or pass game. That’s another argument I never made.

Kicking team lost the game. Left 4 points on the field and then we were in FG range again down 19-22 and decided to go for it on 4th and 3 bc the staff was shaken on the FG unit

I wish more people would watch van hiles breakdowns. He shows time and again what some people post on this board: most of the time, will has enough time to deliver the ball. Way too often he just doesn't slide, doesn't step up, and/or just doesn't turn the ball loose even while looking at an open receiver. That doesn't count the amount of times he fails to recognize the blitz pre snap.

The OL has alot of room to improve. But most of these sacks are on the QB. We will keep seeing it because it's working. Teams know he can't consistently handle it well, so they'll keep doing it.
