I'm guessing that we'll see Dakari back next year. No way he goes in the first round. I don't recall a worse performance this year than today.

Just MHO, of course.

He won't see this kind of defense in the NBA. It will be more one-on-one and running up and down the floor.

DJ. needs more time to develop. The lack of speed and mobility is hurting him, but that can be improved....see Nazr Mohammed. It will be great to have him back next year to work on the footwork and shooting skills that he will need for the next level. His defense was pretty good in the first half.

It would be embarrassing if DJ declares for the draft. That is all I am going to say about that.

If he works hard in the off-season and improves, he could/should start next year and be a key player.

Dakari needs to friggin jump. That's the Bottomline and if he cannot he will never play in nba

What do you really expect when he as well as others are being tripled teamed down low? If we were making outside shots our bigs would have a much easier time. However, we do miss some low post shots that should be made.

It doesn't appear that Cal agrees with you because during the post game he complemented his game. However, as fans we should be happy to see some of these guys hang around for another season.

I hope he comes back...and I think he will based upon a not stellar year.
I think he may be still adjusting to his different body.
He might not start next year, but he will provide great minutes for us.
Perhaps he will work on some different shot sequences over the summer, so he has imore than go right and hook.
I don't remember him being as limited offensively last year, as he appears to be this year.
What I do like is that he keeps at it, brings a positive attitude with his smile and enthusiasm when he isn't on th floor.

Nice! We're 31-0 and that's all you can say?

That is my observation.....

He was brutal trying to score today, but I thought his D was good and his passing was pretty decent as well.

Would love to have him back next year, but it wouldn't really surprise me either way.

He simply is not an athletic specimen, he has decent post moves but they are so slow to develop that any big man with some quickness is going to throw his shot or adjust and stop him from scoring. If Dakari was 6'6" would he be playing div 1? Nope
He is one of the worst finishers I have seen play. Makes Rob Lock look like Chamberlain.
It's good that we play a plodding style as he would simply not make it in an up and down temo.

I think he played better last season as an over weight guy. At least he was able to use his body to create space, he is doing none of that this year.
His confidence is really low and you can tell. He is very cautious with the ball in his hands, Cal is trying to build his confidence up by praising him.

Needs to get stronger and quicker. Looks to be very slow while making moves in the post. However, at times he does exhibit good touches around the basket. Simply can't finish on an offensive putback and that's due to a lack of upper body strength. He needs to hit the weights hard over the off-season and come back next year. He really struggles against athletic forwards and centers at this point. I like his hustle and he works hard to get the ball but has difficulty finishing around the rim.

I love the coaching staff and think they have done an amazing job year in and year out. I will say that they haven't done Dakari any favors by continuing to feed him in the post with his back to the basket when the other team has shown they will double every time. Dakari is so much better catching the ball facing up just outside of the paint. He can see the defense in front of him. He can see open teammates so the double can't come early. And with no immediate double, he can go one bounce, turn into the paint, and score even if a second defender comes late. I assume this set would take them out of the flow of what they usually do, but giving it to Dakari in a position to fail hardly seems like a better option.

I rewatched Kansas in November and Wisconsin from March...he has regressed. His motor was better. I don't know if he has a bit of the short leash syndrome that plagued Alex when he was healthy. I think he comes back. If he improves next year, hes a 15-20 pick. He's stepped up his game and shows flashes of athleticism. Just needs more consistency.

31-0 is great. I think we all love Dakari but have to acknowledge that he's struggled and had some tough games. The comment about 'keepin' the negativity in your pants' was petty. GBB.

Dakari has to learn which way to turn when facing a double team. Can't turn the same way every time. Another year to develop his post game would be a benefit for him IMO.

I think if he declared he would be a late first round pick...maybe early second...

Dakari isn't WCS, Townes, or Lyles...we've been spoiled with big men here lately...Patterson, Boogie, Davis, Jones, Noel, Randle...

DJ isn't really any of the above...he's not freakishly athletic, quick or extremely explosive...he's more of a traditional wide load...

because he's been sharing time with lottery pick big men this year he doesn't look as great as he probably would if he were the go to guy who plays 25+ minutes a game...

but his potential is as good as any true, traditional center...

I think he should probably come back to develop some more, have a bigger role, and more opportunity to really showcase his stuff...

He reminds me of Joker Smith in football: I know what he's getting ready to do every time he gets the ball.

DJ has played awful for 10 games now. It appears that his vertical has gotten worse if that's even possible. Poor kid cannot jump an inch.

Its got to be hard to come in and try to immediately fit into the rhythm of the game, and offensively he is pretty solid when he has some spacing and he's good in transition - he's can improve his game with bodies on him trying to score

but I'll support whatever he chooses. If he wants to go he's earned it. He was a key player in our run last year in the tourney.

I'd love to see him back

I'm telling you, one of these tournament games we will be saying "Thank God for Dakari today!"

He has a winners attitude!

Dakari would really benefit from woriking with one of those "Big Man Coaches" in the off season

Poor Dakari probably has a 5inch vertical. He was a black hole today and had a very tough time. If he can get the ball to the middle of the lane for the right hand baby hook, he's pretty good. Other than that, he hasn't really improved much. I think he's dunked what, 3 balls all year? In no way am I complaining about the team or him. That's just the facts. I feel like Cal sometimes praises and tries to find positives in players who are slumping, to try and help them with their confidence. We saw what Dakari could do late last year, and I'm hoping he returns to that same form.

Dakari is what he is but he is on our team

He is willing to sacrifice and allow us to be successful without complaining and breaking this thing up!

And he enjoys being on a team that is 31-0!

Maybe it's just me, but I believe DJ plays better on offence about 4/6 feet out. Under the rim, he just can't get up.Move out 6 ft., get more space and use the short jump hook. (If I see Cal, I'll tell him. If you see him first..........

has the exact same vertical as towns
I can't really tell if you're serious...I'm hoping you're not
He's likely going off the misleading combine numbers.

The eye test says it all. He can't jump.

I love DJ but he was blocked by like Finney Smith in a 1on1 post up. That made me cringe. He needs work bigtime. He has no business going anywhere but back to Lexington next year. I'm not downing our team, just an observation. He will come around and hopefully step up for us in the post season when needed, but that shouldn't change the fact he Needs more time at UK.

I agree that if he can get into the lane for the jump hook he is pretty solid, but if he has to turn to the baseline, he struggles to finish over athletic bigs. DJ just has no quickness or lift inside. When I watch him play, he looks like he walks every time he makes that baseline move, but rarely gets called for it. His footwork must be decent in that regard. I also agree with the post that stated about good either way with DJ decision. DJ does play hard all the time, therefore I will always give him the benefit of the doubt in UK games, but the NBA is another animal. I will wish him the best not matter if he chooses to stay or go.

A 1 inch vertical is not getting DJ to the NBA in the first round. Good guy-hustles but shoots kike he has a medicine ball in his hands. Watch Trey finish around he rim. No reson DJ cannot learn to do that if he can just get off the floor?

DJ needs to play just enough to keep KAT fresh. I like Lyles in with DJ to give inside scoring.

He needs another year of college basketball. Anybody who says otherwise is watching him thru Big Blue Goggles. He is Nazr Mohammed before adding muscle weight and experience. Dakari has lost the lbs that allow him to run the floor but at the same time lost the lbs to be a man under the basket. He will be a force next year after turning the baby fat into muscle.
