D-League

You're late Sir. I no
Good morning folks.

Last day downtown this week. Already in the office.

Really happy that Oweh has returned. Slight concerns that he'll be pushing to do too much next season, and that it's going to be hard for Pope to find the minutes to keep 14 accomplished players happy. But based on last year Pope seems to have what it takes to hold a team together. And its impossible to predict how things will play out.

Back to work. Have a great day.

You're late Sir, I normally arrive right at 0630. Step up the game, step up the game but, uh, not including your exercise time though I really need to get my legs in better shape.

I accidentally posted these comments on another thread. Oh well..

I was a little worried about Oweh but I guess common sense kicked in for the man. I still won't be completely happy until all 14 are enrolled and attending class. Nearly 3 months away anything can happen, i.e. Acaden Lewis. There's only 200 minutes of playing time per game which will make for some intense practices. I'm sure Pope sold some of these guys on a 2 year or more plan because I just can't see keeping all these guys happy if they expect to play and not warm the bench. Young athletes have a lot of confidence and won't back down from a challenge. All probably think they're good enough to start.

Probably the deepest team in UK history now that the scholarship limit is 15. Excited as I've been in a long time and the first game isn't until November.

Go Cats!

I actually plan to buy a service this time to watch the games. I am talking YEARS of no TV service. I watched online and other avenues or the scoreboard. I have time to pick the best service but plan to do that if the Lord doesn't take me home.

Have a restful evening all. Tomorrow is my normal day off, I only have two meetings so far... We shall see..

Oh, I am looking for an excuse to retire now. It will work out. I have some ideas of how to go forward but am not in a rush. The health is holding out so...

God Bless the D-League and your families...

Good morning all,

Oh the things I could tell. (Nothing classified.)

Having it very hard right now but I have broad shoulders.

When it is time, if the Lord doesn't take me home, I will explain in greater detail.

If you've a mind, say a prayer for me. I am in a good place and good frame of mind where I wasn't for a few months but if you've a mind say a prayer. "

"I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I've committed, unto him against that day."

I am thankful...

Being an old timer, I was thinking about and reading about Sandy Koufax. I saw a couple of old videos where his curve came in at eye level and Roseboro (the catcher) caught it in the dirt. Sandy was the best I ever saw. He had the best fastball and best curveball in the game. The scouting report on Mickey Mantle was never ever throw him a curveball under any circumstances. In one WS, Sandy struck out Mantle with three straight fastballs. The next at bat after 2 strikes on fastballs, Sandy threw him strike three looking with his curve. Mantle turned to Roseboro and said, "how the f@@@ is anybody supposed to hit that?"

Mr. Carbo, do you remember Larry Jaster with the Cardinals? Don't know why but I will never forget, he pitched 5 shutouts against the Dodgers in 1966 I think!

I'm not used to being called mister. Lol! I recall the name, but not a lot about him. Part of his career I was lending my uncle Sam a hand in faraway places though.

Just called respect, that's the way I was raised! A friend of mine has a saying that I never forget, he said, remember who you are and whose you are!!

Thank you for sharing this ATX! Glass is forever, I've got two pieces of glass that is over 125 years old! One piece came from the old depot located here in Central City and one came from an old Presbyterian Church that was torn down in the Berg, Graham KY

I read a story a few years ago about his final days as a player. As age and weight caught up with him, he was an atrocious fielder. The whole pitching staff was threatening to go on strike if the team continued to put him in the outfield.

Wow, I did not know that.

Seems like the Babe could have still had a large plus category in runs scored and ribbys

Back from black belt testing and the fighting was actually pretty good today. But unlike the last testing we did not have any broken noses or hands. However, we did have a few people go down, one young man/teenager (18) did not wear his cup today and one quick flip kick to the groin made him wish he had. He went down like a ton of bricks with a flip kick to the groin. Later, he put the woman down who kicked him in the crotch with a side kick to her gut. I had to raise her arms to help her get air back into her lungs. She is a big girl/woman (25) about 6'1" 200 or so lbs and pretty tough. The other women he also put down with a side kick was his sister (20) who was going at him as if he had pissed her off.

She was mad as hell and when I lifted her arms to help her breath, she quickly pulled her arms away and said I am good to go and ready to continue so, I let them fight on.

Good morning from ATX. Currently 72°F and partly cloudy. Excessive heat warning in effect.

Great to be back home. Oncology called during FL trip. Glioblastoma remains stable. Spoke in-depth with little brother regarding post-retirement. I can retire from current job 10 months from today. He suggested I should take my knack for scavenging to a new level. Maybe scout for relics and artifacts. Also work on a few websites. Believe I'll call it quits when I can. Many former co-workers died of heart attacks soon after retirement. I'd rather not become another statistic.

Wishing y'all a peaceful Sunday.

Get you metal detector or start arrow head hunting, that will keep you busy and you will get plenty of sunshine and exercise! I love both activities!

Good morning folks.

Austin, happy to hear you got what sounds like good news from your oncologist.

Back from a long run, followed by a long walk. Legs are aching but it must be good for me. Or maybe it is just a bad habit. BUt it's a beautiful day in the east, clear and cool. May this last for a while.

Cleaning up the back porch ahead of a cookout for my step-father-in-law's birthday. My younger daughter will be along, so it'll be good to see her. She lives the closest but somehow I've managed to see my older daughter in KC and son in Austin area more this spring. She's just back from a long trip to eastern Europe, Berlin, Warsaw, Prague, Vienna and Budpest, so should have some good stories.

Hope you all have a good day.

I Know a couple of people who are in their mid 70's who still work because they are afraid that if they retire, they will go by the way of some others we know who died not long after retiring. Some focus only on the ones who have died forgetting the many who have not. They only think about the ones that did. I believe staying active is the key to avoiding it short term after retirement.

I remember counselors for the Army telling us that the life expectancy of a soldier after retirement was 5 years. I found that hard to believe but they said for many it was because of adopting a sedentary/unhealthy lifestyle that crippled the system and added to the death toll. Also, factor in that they were including all military retirees (reserves and national guardsmen) who are older at retirement because they have to serve more years to get enough credits to earn retirement and it begins to make more sense. I do know of 5 people I worked with or around who died within 3 years or so of retirement and one of them within 6 months so... who really knows.

Now that life expectancy was back in 1997 when I retired. I don't know what the numbers are today.

Exercising most mornings, walking the monster most days, karate, and fishing lend to a pretty healthy lifestyle, but my eating habits need to be tweaked a bit to round it out.

I worked long enough at the "atomic plant" to get a small pension. They said the average retiree lived 19 months (dont know the age). A lot of them got cancer. Two of my friends died in their forties and they worked in the same building. A lot of guys worked swing shift and I think that contributed. I still work at 77, but I am my own boss and can work when I want to.

Playing WV right now with a 6-4 lead bases loaded 1 out for WV. Had a chance for a double play when up 6-1 but Tyler Bell made an error that allowed bases to be loaded. WV just tied it up with a line drive that scored 2. Shades of Friday's game vs WV when we had a 3-0 lead, but 3 errors allowed them to tie it and then a walk off in the 9th. Just walked to load bases again with 1 out.

Cats up 12-7 in bottom 8th. Go Big Blue!
