D-League

About last night:

Whatever happens the rest of the way, I'm always going to love Pope's first team.

Beat Duke, Gonzaga, Louisville, swept Tenn, two games with late Oweh shots to take down Oklahoma...the first SEC game/win was a shoot-out classic with Florida.

You see character from many of these guys, without the injuries we got 2 or 3 more wins right now.

I think something special is brewing in the basketball program.

With Butler out, anything more is icing. Yes, great season when all is considered & not bad in the absolute.

He ghost wrote a book for Bob Knight. He told lies about Kenny Walker being paid to go to UK. I helped Joe B. recruit Kenny and was there in all the conversations. No money and no promises. John Feinstein in my book is a worthless lying sob.
We met a guy at a craft show who made lamps that were fishing related. We sold him some shades that were fishing related. He told us later he sold a lamp and one of the shades to Joe B.

I see John Feinstein, the Kentucky-hating sports writer died.

Is it too soon to tell a story about him that makes me look like a jerk? I guess I'll do it anyway.

As some of you know, Feinstein graduated from Duke in 1978, and it was the Cats beating his beloved Blue Devils that year in the championship that made him a lifetime hater and critic of UK...

Fast forward to 1998. He had just written a fawning book about ACC basketball. I was working in DC at the Scripps Howard news bureau, where we put out a wire service that reached 800 newspapers across America. Feinstein was working at the Washington Post, which had offices just a couple blocks away.

In late March of that year, about a week after the legendary Kentucky comeback to beat Duke in the Elite Eight, Feinstein came up to our offices to promote his book with our sports editor. I spotted him, and so I lurked around until I saw him heading for the elevator of our 11th floor office.

I walked up to him and said, "Aren't you John Feinstein? I'm a big college hoops fans and know your work (know, not like...)" He seemed flattered and we both got on the elevator...I had him trapped...

So I said, "Hey, let me ask you: What happened to Duke in that tournament game with Kentucky last week? How do you blow a 17-point lead with nine minutes to go?" I swear his face got white and mumbled something about, "just bad luck.." But I kept it up: "Did Coach K just choke? He looked like he was pissing his pants on the bench...Man, he was totally outclassed by that Kentucky coach, what is his name again? He's new, right?"

It was the longest elevator ride of Feinstein's life. When we got to the lobby he didn't even pretend he wasn't pissed. He just made a beeline for the door...No wonder he hated Kentucky. We can be an ornery bunch...
Jerk. ;)

GO CATS!!!

True Grit CATS, True Grit CATS!!!

Hey folks. Just checking in late. SPent a long, full day getting the best out of Savannah. Heading back to Maryland early in the morning. But it was a great trip. As many of you know, this is a beautiful, colorful and historic town, and it was rocking ahead of St. Patrick's Day. They have the second largest St. Patrick's parade in the country, after only NYC, and hundreds of people were getting an early start today.

Hope you all are having a nice weekend.

Selection Sunday is here. Hard to believe that this season is coming to an end. Cats will be either a 3 or 4 seed. The NCAA always looks for games that will boost ratings so I wouldn't be surprised if they put the Cats in Duke's and St. John's bracket. Also, BYU, UL, Arkansas and IU are other possibilities. I'll take any team right now as long as it's not from the SEC. Brutal season.

Cats went 3-0 this season against Vols and Gators.
It has always been known that matchups matter. It is very true this year. That and injuries have plagued us most of the season. Not expecting much for the NCAA tourney from us so will not be disappointed if we do not get passed first round but will be elated if we do.

I like the draw. Best we could have hoped for. I thought when BYU popped up as a six seed they might put us as their 3 for the whole Pope playing his old team story line. But it turned out good. Doesn't mean we will win, but could have been worse.

And even though they get to play in Kentucky, love it Louisville would have to beat Creighton and Auburn just to get to the Sweet Sixteen.

Top O da mornin to ya, in me best Irish accent!

Mid 80's expected for a high today and tomorrow with winds 35mph gusting up to mid 40's. Was going to try to fish today or tomorrow but the winds will not be kind. Wednesday drops to mid 50's with the same wind problems. Probably wait until the weekend or next week to fish.

@AustinTXCat thanks, will probably try the Popeyes fish sammich sometime this week.

Grass cutting will start this week sometime as it is starting to grow in most parts of the yard.

Up and at em folks for those that must work. Be careful out there on your way to work.

God Bless the D-league

Good morning folks. Happy St. Patrick's Day.

Decent draw for the Cats. Imagine if someone had said after Calipari left town and Kentucky hired Mark Pope, who faced rebuilding with ZERO returning players, "Kentucky will get the same seed as they had in 2024 with a team packed with 5-star recruits, some elite transfers, a top international player and a returning all-SEC guard -- and this time might actually win the first game." We'd probably have taken that -- and not believed it possible.

My favorite first game: Arkansas versus Kansas. Either Calipari makes it one tournament win in SIX years. Or Self and the Jailhawks bow out and Kentucky is guaranteed to gain ground in the All-Times Win Race.

Back to work after my mini-vacaction in Savannah. Have a great day folks.
