Hate to hear that about Bert. Makes me hurt for him.

Let me know when I can come and visit you buddy.

My wife and I are going to Jungle Jim's today in Cincy. We're supposed to leave at 0800. Doubt we'll make that time because, woman. I don't think I need to tell the men in the audience that I am ready to go as I type.

She doesn't know it yet but I plan to take us to Hebron KY so we can cross the river on a ferry.

See you guys tonight.

  • Good Morning, folks.
  • 72º in Johns Creek. A few clouds. Nice temp. Nice morning.
  • Feeling sorry for Bert. Broken hip. That will be an ordeal for he and Sherry. Damn. He won't be whupping anybody's azz anytime soon.
  • I hope the rest of you are good.
  • Bev had to bag the day off and go work. I know how she feels. Sometimes one has to suck it up and work anyway. This is not GM. Come on 19 year old. We are depending on you.
  • Lola sure looks different now. The long flowing locks are all gone. No pony tail. She is tiny. Seven pounds. Oh well, she will grow out.
  • Six water lily blooms going. Never had six before.
  • Fish fed.
  • Deck quiet. Just Lola and me.
  • Missing FCC too.
  • Fred checked in. He's probably painting stuff.
  • That's it. As you were.

I have never been out in the wild. I have done all of my bird watching from this deck and while I am fishing. I have seen a pair of Pileated Woodpeckers before. They are huge and can make the wood chips fly when they are working. Rare birds around here. A big Horned Owl lives next door. Don't see it much. Saw a couple of Mockingbirds chasing a big Red-Tailed Hawk yesterday. That always tickles me.

Great place to start.

I've got White-winged Doves nesting in my yard along with various hummingbirds. The Love birds have nested in my yard, not right now but I see them every day. Harris Hawks like the one below frequent the area. As ground foraging generalists, nearly every thing is on the menu. They really tame down and habituate to people well, nesting in urban areas as well as the Sonoran desert uplands. Their presence draws a lot of avian attention and like your Red-Tails, Mocking birds don't like them and raise hell when they're around.

Get well soon Bert.

My dog rolled and rolled all over this dead mole yesterday and I thought about FCC. Hope he's doing fine wherever he is.

Saw some lizards on my hike today. A little neon orange feller, then a bigger brownish one scrambled up a tree. I don't know jack about them, im not amphibious.

I could work in the yard, or I could not. Who knows.

Eastern Newt is what I saw. Stunning lil thing.

My daddy loved to attract Purple Martins with the gourd houses. He would clean them out each Spring and they came and raised in the gourds. One year after dad got to the golden age the damn pole broke and sent him atop a chain-link fence. There his old ass was upside down and entangled in that fence. It punctured one of his calves too. Bleeding like Hell he was, and his neighbor helped him get off of that fence and took him to the ER to get cleaned up and sewn up. Old people get get involved in some dilemmas.

IIRC Bert is 70. That is a dangerous age. Most men are done by then but don't know it. Then they try to do something that they've always easily done and end up getting hurt because the body's worn out.

**I took no chances after about 35 and quit doing anything calling for physical exertion.
I need to replace one of our motion detector security lights this weekend. It'is not up real high, but I need for #1 to hold the ladder steady for me. And I have to wire it hot, but I can do that, but it always makes me a little nervous. I dread the sore muscles the most of all.

Walking along the bank of the Chattahoochee River we saw an Osprey flying upriver with about a 5 pound Brown Trout in his talons. It was a pretty sight. We have seen some Bald Eagles too, They are huge birds. Beautiful things.
An osprey nest is easy to spot too (large as a bathtub), usually atop a large snag and vulnerable to environmental neanderthals. For management purposes, we top trees 500 ft. or so away from the water where they can't be seen. The nest sites remain viable for much longer period than atop the decaying snags.

This is a male Annna's Hummingbird. I cannot walk outside without seeing this. They're everywhere I hang a feeder. The color is a structural light refractance, By turning their heads the color is refracted in all directions. Very attractive to you know who.

I'll set-up my feeders this week. We rarely get them this early but there's always hope. Usually July but last year they came in late June.

Which location? Fairfield or Eastgate? Safe travels. I visited Jungle Jim's last spring. Awesome beer selection.
We went to the Eastgate store. Yeah they've got lot's of beers. I picked up six of some German beer. I can't remember the name but it's from the oldest brewery in the world. I'll look next time I get up. I hope it's quite a while.

You and your family are part of your dog's pack. He was rolling on that dead mole to bring a new scent to be shared with the pack. You may know this, but somebody won't know it and will understand it better.
