We have not seen it yet, but I would think that in two or three years, Top High School players could be much better shooters coming into College. These kids will be the first to develop in the Curry their game in the New three ball happy NBA and the GMs are drooling for any player that can shoot (see Devin Booker and why Gracie allan was a fool for not going last year!).

This past year there were few great shooters coming our of HS (we had the best) and this year there are like NONE. But one would think that seeing Klay, Step, Harden, etc. all make top 10 on SportsCenter nightly by making threes will help change the game eventually at the HS and AAU level. Heck, being a top athlete who can drain threes sure increases potential earnings and now they see proof of it.

The Curry Effect has definitely been significant. I've seen talking heads complain about it but I love a guy that can shoot. To me, you're not really a basketball player unless you can shoot.

Wanting to be an outstanding shooter and becoming one are two different things.

Think we're really still a few years away from that. Considering many think that Zion kid is the best HS player in any grade and I've not seen a single video showing him hitting a jump shot. But I do agree and thinknow we will start seeing it more

I don't know if the Curry effect is really about shooting ability as much as it is about shooting philosophy. Shooting ability has always been valued, even if you go back before the 3 point line. So I don't know how Curry being such a great shooter can change things much. But there are things he does that could change standard shooting philosophy.

I'm thinking of 3 things. The first is that he has a low release point, something that's generally been seen as a no-no. You watch Curry shoot, and you can immediately tell that at one point in his life he was the small kid who had to get his whole body into his shot to get it to the rim. But his release is so fast and efficient, it doesn't matter at all. He can get it off any time he wants.

Second, he's more willing to shoot deep threes off the dribble than any player in basketball history (and far better at it). That's a skill I can see a whole generation of players trying to copy.

Finally, he's showing that a relatively uncontested 25-30 foot shot might be the better choice than the more contested shot from 5 feet further in. I think we saw some of this in effect with Tyler Ulis last year. Ulis was not a great 3 point shooter, but he seemed to have an inordinate amount of success draining really deep (and lightly guarded) 3's late in the shot-clock last year. I don't think this works for everyone, but if you have the proper technique, it seems realistic that the technique will hold up even if you stretch it out to 25-30 feet, whereas if you get harassed more by the D, it's more likely to break down.

This Is the only Coury effect that ever worried me.

I think it's also had a bit of a negative effect as well. Watching the tournament this year, it was very noticeable to me that most players' favorite late game or late in the shot clock strategy was the Steph Curry-esque dribble the air out of the ball and pull a 30 foot contested 3. Curry hits them, but it makes college basketball look disgusting. Here's to hoping kids are inspired to perfect their jump shot by watching his success, but learn to use that skill within the confines of an offense. Could make for some pretty basketball in the next few years.
