Crystal Ball: UK is new leader for Marques Bolden

Still not sure what to think about Bolden. He can't jump to save his life. Seems like a less athletic DJ.

But if Cal wants him, I want him.

I don't get the people on here acting like he is like or worse athletically that Dakari. That statement is crazy. He won't jump out of the gym but he is much more skilled and athletic than Dakari was.

And some more...

Dude has a ton more talent than DJ. For one ,he doesn't trip over his own feet. Advantage Bolden. This guy plays like Okafor. Would be a great addition to play along side Bam. You send help to this guy when he posts up, and Bam will jam every miss he puts to the rim.

We don't have room for him

I see more Randolph Morris than Dakari. I'd love to add either type of player anyway. If you look at next year's loaded roster, the only thing missing is a true back-to-the-basket scorer (and possibly outside shooting).

My only hesitation is Calipari going big again next year with lineups, when I think you have to go small these days.

I agree somewhat, in that you MUST have good guard play to advance in the tournament, but to be fair, you also have to have good and consistent post play, which is becoming more and more obvious this season.

He's a true low post scorer. He's not a bad shot locker either. We need a guy every year who's a true low post scorer like that. He's nothing like Dakari. He's more like Jahlil Okafor. Just not quite that good. If this were another year he'd be ranked top 10. Probably early top 10

LOL. Randolph Morris. Yeah. I seen that right off too. He's kind of got that same demeanor too don't he?

Wow. I sure don't see much Okafor in the clips I viewed. That being said, maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised!

Bolden may be the best low post scorer in his class, I don't know one way or the other. But Okafor was the best low post scoring freshman Center I can recall. He had other deficiencies, but posting up and scoring inside were not one of those. I don't think Bolden is in Okafor's league in that area, although he certainly might be better in other areas (e.g., blocking shots, running the floor, etc.). Would love to have him, but not going to put unreasonable expectations on him. He wouldn't have to be Okafor to be a nice piece of the team puzzle next season.

Ok, one hasn't been what we thought he would be. Obviously its time to question Cal's scouting ability when it comes to recruits. Think its time we move on from the Cal era...

One recruit? Really? During his entire tenure? Talk about blue cool-aid.

To suggest that Cal NEVER misses in evaluation and planned use for recruits is foolish. All coaches are fallible in this regard. Sometimes players just fail to meet the potential that coaches see in them, or maybe for whatever reason the team chemistry doesn't materialize in a given season (2003). I'm not attacking Cal in any way here. I'm a HUGE proponent of Cal's ability to bring in top recruits and weave them into a cohesive team, playing less than deserved minutes along the way. I don't think any other coach can do this as well has Cal has repeatedly done in his time at UK.

I know, right, Cawood?

Cal's NEVER been wrong on a recruit, right?

Sincerely,
Skal.

I think it is ridiculous to even make a statement like that when all the Pro scouts was drooling over him during the Nike Hoop Summit saying he was by far the best looking recruit at the practices. I bet there wasn't a coach in America that wouldn't have loved to had this kid.

Cal has sort of developed a "back-to-the basket ONLY" fetish when it comes to his big men, so I would have no problems with him adding the best low post big man in the class. Get the best guy that's best suited for the style you want to run and go with it.

I never said he doesn't miss on any. When the turnover rate is so high year in and year out, you're bound to miss on a couple. The way you said your original statement made it seem like you yourself are questioning Cal somewhat it when it comes to recruiting certain player. He's given us no reason to question his recruiting ability. Like others have said above, Cal isn't the only one who missed on Skal. All the people who were saying he was a top 5 pick also whiffed.

Sometimes it's best to actually READ threads before commenting.

Case in point, my comment just above yours.....

"All coaches are fallible in this regard."

Sheesh.

And sometimes it's best not to comment at all. What was the point of the sarcastic Skal comment? I didn't read where he said "Cal is infallible as a recruiter", he simply said he didn't know why anyone would question his recruiting.

It's called a message board. People post their opinion here. But you're probably right. Skal is not a miss, and nobody should ever question Cal. You win.

Having another shot blocker on the roster next year would be wonderful.

Go get him Cal!!
