Crypt Keeper's Contract Extended Thru 2026

That man is not aging well. Lou fans gotta be hype, more hack a tack for ten years

I doubt he'll be coaching at age 73!! That being said, what else are they supposed to do? They aren't gonna get a huge hire right now, he DID just win a title a couple years ago (debate all you want about it being a weak year - it was, and he won it), and he likes that they let him run the town. He'll probably stick around 4-5 more years, then transition to RICKY JR!!!

Car stipend, 36,000.00, wow I gotta get me an assistant job at UK, is the equipment manager job open;)

He'll stay until Lil Ricky is ready. If Lil Ricky ever has any kind of success, I think Spintino will step down and hand the reigns over to the next 15 second wonder.

At least this year's incoming freshmen will know the scheme and defense by then.

Honestly, the guy might be the best coach in college hoops history. Not kidding at all. Stay as long as you want

It is sad you don't remember Providence or Kentucky... Or understand what he has done w/very limited NBA talent

I don't doubt that he was thinking of getting out after the Morehead St. loss. It was fairly well accepted that he looked into the Arizona job in that time frame. They have had a good 4 year run (we own them, yes) - it's easy to forget the state of the UofL program as recently as early March 2012. At that point, he was a decade into the job, and the natives were very restless. The most common topic on Louisville sports radio was "how come Pitino can't win at UofL like he did at UK?" There was a real feeling that the results did not match the hype when hired or the expectations. 7 times in 10 years he had exited the NCAAT in the first weekend, etc. Sypher Saga happened during that - and so yes it's very easy to believe he wanted out. The last 4 years have really rehabbed his reputation - prior to that, he was largely forgotten on the national scene, and source of disappointment to many UofL fans.

either way, the Gottlieb comment is silly, and designed solely to get BBN to bite, as it does so well.....

He'll be colder than a mackerel before that......Maybe he can finally beat Calipari if he coaches til he is that old...I'll bet anyone on here $1000 that the gift Sypher gave him will catch up with the Ole Adulterer..

Gets contract extension. More years of decrepitude and further decay to follow.

Perfectly fine by me. I think Pitino is truly one of the best coaches out there, but his failure to adept to this new age of OND has impacted him. Top talent knows that going to UL will not get them the exposure and practice to make it to the NBA. I'll give him credit for that 13 team, as they fit into his system and came together nicely as a team. I doubt he will capture that magic again though.

If he's just bidding team for Richard that's a double win for me. Let the Pitino's stay at UL for the rest of time and be in UKs shadow.

He obviously is not well ..maybe the gift Sypher gave him..He will never complete this contract..Book It..

I'd say this is mostly for recruiting. This puts a end date way out there so recruits don't think he is retiring in the near future.

Well he is hoping to win a second game against Calipari and figured it would take another 10 years for that to happen.

Just extended the contract of many more beatdowns by Cal and UK. I'm cool with that. :cool2:

University of Louisville sure loves handing out those golden parachutes, huh?

Does anyone have a link to a report on Ramsey basically stealing money for his cronies? Would like to send it to a jackass UL fan I know. TIA, if so.

CJ Headline from the 2026 sports page:

Rick Pitino confidently heads for the last time to the YUM Center court to coach his team against Calipari's Cats. L1C17

I wonder if he'll still be dyeing those hair plugs by then.
