Cronin, Pitino's 7th best assistant ever, is still a Final Four coach. What does Calipari have to show from his coaching tree?

Pitino's coaching tree: Billy Donovan (2 NCAA titles), Tubby Smith (1 NCAA title), Frank Vogel (NBA title), Jim O'Brien (Eastern Conference finals), Herb Sendek (three x conference coach of the year, 533 career wins), Jeff Van Gundy (NBA Finals coach), Mick Cronin (Final Four), Ralph Willard (4 NCAA births), Scott Davenport (Bellarmine), John Pelphrey, Travis Ford, Marvin Menzies (Missouri coach), Kevin Willard (Maryland coach), Stu Jackson.

Pitino assistants had three teams in this year's tournament. Three. And that's with Smith retired and Donovan in the NBA.

Can anyone name even one Calipari assistant who's gone on to have decent success?

Additionally, what does this absence of high-profile assistants say philosophically about Calipari's approach to the game?
History will measure the lasting success of any long-term coach by the quality of coaches found in his coaching tree. Not much more needs to be said.

Cronin didn't sit him on the bench and Juzang was smart enough to get the hell out of Lexington. I wonder if Cronin thanked Cal for being the dumbass that he is?
Juzang left because he was homesick. And if you would’ve played him over Maxey or Quickley then it’s pretty obvious who the dumbass would be.

Yeah it's bizarre the revisionist history that people have.

Nobody in their right mind would have played Juzang over a lottery-pick in Maxey or SEC Player of the Year Quickley.

I’m not happy with the past three seasons and there’s plenty of legitimate reasons to criticize Cal. But man most of the stuff posted on here is as dumb as it gets.

I think you missed the main part of the question which is of highest concern at the moment. What has our current coach produced in the area of mentoring coaches? Especially since coaching is his main job.
Don’t think his main job is coaching other coaches!

I’m not trying to be argumentative here but coaching in general is his main job. If it wasn’t, his official title would be “UK Mens basketball Head Recruiter”, etc. He’s known as Head Coach, and he is not coaching anyone at a level worth $9-10 million a year. The results are in since 2015.

The entire point I take from this is Cal isn’t doing much of anything lately.

1. His teams are underperforming
2. He can still get very good players, that’s his main gift. When’s the last time we saw a player really blossom under him? I mean, develop a skill he didn’t have when he arrived. Become a better shooter? Become a better ball handler? I know they don’t stay long enough anymore, but I remember watching guys like Nazr Mohammed change before our eyes. Most guys get worse under Cal.
3. Finally, his coaching tree doesn’t even seem to be flourishing.

The entire point - very few things that Cal touches lately are thriving. He’s burnt out and living on a past reputation to the tune of $10 million. Sad because I was elated to have him and his energy when he arrived.

Juzang was a skilled multi-year player which is exactly what Calipari didn't have but desperately needed. OAD does nothing for UK and the program. Most of the OADs don't learn how to play the game until they get into the league. It just takes these or any player several years out of high school to develop their games effective to produce real and sustainable results. We never see real productivity in only one year and certainly nothing that will win a Title. Cal doesn't care about players like Juzang because of the annual NBA game-by-game auditions at UK take priority for Cal over teaching, coaching, and multi-year player development. You may have a different opinion from mine, and that's fine, but in my book, Cal is still the dumbass, and his results seem to support my contention.

Just shows how good Cal really is. 6 FF’s. At 3 schools. Took every school he’s coached to the FF.

1 NC. Over 800 wins. In the HoF.

All with no help. Amazing!!

Because that’s the topic of this thread. If you feel it’s unimportant, why are you posting?
Because he's just a bitter contrarian troll who likes to argue with the popular sentiment of the moment.

He's only here to argue. I'm not even sure he's a UK fan, and if he is, he's likely one bad day away from turning into Michael Douglas' character from that movie called Falling Down.

Dude, you gotta let it go.

You have a HOTTTT ass wife. Like a legit 10! Maybe the hottest actually real wife of anyone on here! You have a wonderful looking family. Your kids seem happy, healthy and well taken care of. You seem like a great father who wants to be involved with his kids and give them wonderful opportunities. I would have killed for my dad to take me to NBA games like you did for yours, and give him an unforgettable experience. You seem like you have a lot of good in your world. You got into an bad argument with me on here here where we both talked trash. Yea, maybe I made it personal, but you're no saint on here either. It's not worth staying upset over it. If it means much, I do apologize for what I said! I need to be better with my outbursts and making things personal. I think it's something most all of could work on.
I appreciate you saying that. I usually let things go and don't dwell on the past. You struck a nerve badly with me at the time. If you mean what you say, I'm 100% good with leaving it in the past.

I'll be honest with you I think it has more to do with Calipari being such a damn good recruiter than anything else. The assistants he has had have not had a ton of success and Cals system requires you to have great talent. Cal is not the best bench coach ever but he may be the greatest recruiter ever and that is a huge part of coaching.

That makes you a true man! Hopefully they are fortunate enough to have you and their biological dad in the picture, just because of how impactful that can be. But, if not, you appear to more than be making up for it!
Their dad is in the picture, but that's kind of the extent of it. I won't dive into that, I just try to be whatever they need me to be.

Cronin's the guy I've wanted as a replacement, but the buyout for his contact is close to $25 million.
You're getting laughed at by our resident morons but Cronin can coach and he has shown it...but his court side demeanor is tough to take at times but he should be on any of Kentucky's list as a replacement.

My interest in him is more to the fact that I don't see a ton of realistic hires that are slam dunks.

Cronin has to be on our shorter lists one would think. Guy can assemble a team and his teams play hard. The injuries kept UCLA from winning it this year.
Watched a video a few days back where coach K was very complimentary of his teams.

Not sure he wants to leave Westwood or if he would be attainable but the guy can coach.
