....Trying to get fired? Collect a pile of money and live high on the hog. (Petrino's buyout I know was nothing by comparison)

I don't know what to make of Jimbo. Eight or ten years ago the guy looked like he was going to be the next Saban. In recent years, he's completely fallen apart. As far as coaching ability and football knowledge, he probably ranks right up there with the best of them. The guy obviously knows football. But I think he has a lot in common with Petrino as a human being which has played a much larger role in his failures. It is hard to fathom how the guy has managed to screw up two programs with the resources Florida State and Texas A&M have. The guy must be a total train wreck.

FSU was on the verge of firing him and Jamis came along and saved his job. He wasn't awful at FSU, but he wasn't Bobby Bowden. He was always looking around trying to leverage more money. He left FSU in a mess they are finally appearing to be coming out of. He is taking ATM to a level they haven't been in decades. He has been a very average coach other than the Jamis years and the covid shorten season

Agreed here....he did get a Natty at FSU. But let's be realistic. FSU was fortunate that Auburn kick six along with Bama's poor special teams play resulted in a big upset that catapulted what I'd call an inferior Auburn team to getting to that title game.

At the end of Jimbo run at FSU he was sucking wind and really left them in poor condition when he bolts to Texas AM. He was a 3 loss coach in a bad ACC schedule. Clemson was passing him up and he was losing his perennial bad loss per year. THen he goes to Texas Am and with a SEC schedule he's now a 4 loss team in a tougher conference. And he still loses his perennial dumb game per year (this year it was USC).

I used to think Jimbo was a behind Saban and Kirby...but I don't think so now. Kiffen is easily ahead of him. Then I'd push Stoops ahead of Jimbo. And now Heupel has pushed past him. He looks like a total idiot with his NIL scuffle with Bama...and now he's going to not just have a slight down year...he's going to miss a bowl game all together. That is hard to do in today's world....and he's going to miss a bowl game which is awful IMO.

That AU team also had a miracle win against UGA that. Last play, we are up by 4, 4th and long, Marshall throws up a duck, 2 of our guys run into each other, tipping the ball up to an AU play who catches it and scores.

But FSU and Jimbo got lucky by getting the 3rd or 4th best SEC team. Jimbo is about as sleazy as Petrino, not quite but close. For what he is doing to ATM he should be wearing a mask. Not sure I would put him in top half of SEC coaches.

Forgot about that...Auburn got like 2 miracle plays to win the SEC that year.

If Jimbo was so elite....he'd be right on Bama's team in SEC West. Instead it's Auburn, LSU and Ole Miss as much as it is Texas AM trailing Bama.

Even if he's not trying to, knowing that he can get wealthy by failing probably allows him to sleep well at night.

I agree with much of what Grumpy has said here. Also, Jimbo bought a nice ranch in the area and has talked about loving it. He also has a special needs child - I think his family is playing another part in his life. He is not Nick Saban - by that I also don't think he lives and breathes football all the time. Bottomline, Jimbo worked the system to perfection. It wouldn;t surprise me if Jimbo never coached another team once he is finished at A & M - whenever that is! But that is just my uneducated opinion!

Go Big Blue!

That wouldn't surprise me at all. Jimbo looks like the pressure is wearing on him. I think he bought a place for his family where he grew up, but not 100% on that. Kirby is 100% football, actual season, spring practice or recruiting. Georgia has about 550 teams that ay football in the GHSA and GISA. He visits everyone of them. Of course half are in metro Atlanta and he could get all of them in a week with a helicopter, which is what he does.

No way! Success at the end of the day is what drives a coach. I'm sure his bank account is already well-funded.

There was an outside the lines show I think that his former assistants at FSU did after he left. Basically said Jimbo was held hostage by Jamis and his possee. Jamis told Jimbo when he was gonna practice and what his crew demanded and would walk off the field during practice bringing his possee with him. The other guys would have to continue practicing. They said it destroyed the culture so bad players would fist fight every practice. Jimbo surrounded by this mess he created then was zeroed in on by A&M. Talk about your luck. FSU fell into obscurity with a broken culture for years. Bobby 2.0

This is the sentiment down here. My FSU cousins were ready to show him out of Tallahassee. And then cames Texaa A&M to save the day.

Yep. Basically he was a mediocre coach who was in the right place/right time. He got lucky.

He ruined FSU football, when he left the team had been gutted. They are just starting to recover from the way he left them.

Whatever. if Mark stoops leaves he's number one or number two on my list!!!!!
Jimbo Fisher or Hugh Freeze .. I don't care either one.

He's not top half of SEC coaches IMHO. Classic case of doing less with more. Better than Jimbo? Saban, Smart, Heupel, Kelly, Stoops, Kiffen, Leach... at least.

If he didn't have a NC he would be 14,maybe 13, the guy at missouri is a little different.

College coaching cracks me up.

I wish I sucked so bad at my job my company would pay me millions and millions of dollars to go away.

The miracle plays caught up w Auburn in NC game. I remember two bone head plays - one being players out of their lane giving up a kickoff return for TD. There was another that I cannot seem to remember specifics of. Otherwise, Auburn wins the title. Jimbo was truly lucky.
