Correct way to handle Higgins

Is NOT to make threats, post on his business page, write reviews etc.
The way to handle this, is for a few people who actually attended the game, to find a sleeze ball attorney (preferably a UK fan) and file a class action lawsuit against the NCAA demanding your money back, Based on the grounds that you purchased your ticket with the expectation that you were attending a sporting event that would be based on fair officiating. Doesn't even matter if you win, a good sleeze ball attorney will get the cost of defense up in the high 6 digit range, even low 7 figure range... and either way, Higgins is taking the stand and answering questions...and its going to cost the NCAA money.

Correct way to handle him.

Nah. It was handled quickly and effciently. We don't have time to file lawsuits.

Or the NCAA can just become more transparent and offer public explanations as to how they evaluate and advance officials through the tournament (hard to imagine there was any ref that worked other Elite 8 games that graded lower than Higgins, how he gets to work the Final Four needs to be explained).

Or refs can just get better at their jobs. Crazy idea, I know.

If going to hire a sleeze ball attorney is a LARGE selection ..... [roll]

Quickly, yes, efficiently, I guess so, effectively? NOPE, accomplished nothing. The one thing a class action suit would do, is become big news, to all NCAA sports fans. All of a sudden, things just got real, and lawsuits for unfairly officiated games become a reality the NCAA has to deal with. I would be willing to bet, officiating reform would go pretty high on their priority list, I doubt they want to start paying big money attorneys to defend them from class action suits every time a ref feels like he has an axe to grind with a team in a game he is officiating. As for "time" it take s a few minute to sign some papers, you might have to show up every once in a while and sign a couple of more... but if you could find an attorney to take the case on a contingency, it costs nothing, and the lawyer is the only one really investing any time to speak of.

He and the NCAA have already been handled by this. Very improbable he will ever officiate another UK game. If something were to happen where he was assaulted during the game by a fan, player or so forth that would put the NCAA in a very bad light because they now know the risk associated and allegedly threats have been made against him. It would also lead to the possibility that a player or players could be injured if a fan or fans rushed the floor to assault Higgins. Too much of a risk at this point to put him, other officials, players or coaches at risk.

Already been a ruling from an NFL lawsuit from spygate. Judge pretty much stated that a ticket only entitles you a seat at the event. The event is for entertainment purposes. So even if it was rigged you don't get money back.

This is one of the dumbest things I've ever read.

The suit would be promptly thrown out on a motion to dismiss, and UK fans would then be laughed at and portrayed by the media as buffoons for having filed it.

Does this not bother you that officials won't be refereeing our games out of fear of being assaulted or harmed by our fans?

If you honestly are worried about people thinking less of you because of the actions, some alleged, of a very small minority of our fan-base then you've got some major insecurity problems and care far too much about what some simple minded people think.

Anyone with a functional brain cell will clearly know the people that posted these things are the extreme nuts in our fan-base and it is not representative of us as a whole. The only thing that was really uncalled for are the death threats. Posting on his public facebook page, calling him and publicly shaming the man are all fair game.

He knew what he was signing up for when he agreed to ref the D-1 level, especially tournament games. He should have known that fixing games and implementing a personal vendetta that would influence the outcome of a game is going to have repercussions. I don't feel bad or sorry for him and I sure as shit don't care if someone thinks less of me because of the actions of others among such a large spectrum. I'm confident and secure enough to hold my head high as a UK fan. If someone feels negative about me because of UK they most likely had a grudge and negative perception of the program to begin with.

Are you admitting that you fall into this category? I think contacting a referee or thinking it is ok to do this means you are in that category.

In the category of thinking it is okay? uhh... yea. Did I post on his page or call him? No. The page was a public page open for anyone to comment on. He could have easily deleted the comments or closed the comments section on his page. Simple Solution! Instead, he wanted to play the victim card and act as though it was some detriment to his business. Which already had several negative reviews prior to our game. The phone calls also aren't that big of a deal. If you don't know the number don't answer. Let them leave a message and simply delete it if its something you don't want to hear. The death threats are obviously a problem and should be addressed. However, I am not sure I totally believe they were actual threats and not just people saying they wish he was dead, which again is pretty bad, but not threatening.

This man went on national TV, not once or twice, but several times and blatantly made bad calls against one team to benefit another. He prevented Cal and the coaching staff from being able to perform their jobs adequately and affected their performance which could cost them several hundred thousand dollars in bonus money. He cost UK and the SEC millions by preventing us from reaching the next round and potentially a championship game, which pays UK and the conference very well. He brought this on himself. He could have called the game the right way, requested off the game because of a personal bias or just quit being a ref when he knew he had said biases. It's his problem and he needs to be held accountable and deal with it. Maybe this will make him and the NCAA realize there are repercussions that we don't always plan for.

I am sure there may be some on this message board who actually took the time to go write things on Higgins face book page, so no offense in advance but.... by comparison it kind of feels like, your neighbor is playing his stereo full blast and you can't hear your TV...so you sneak down there and leave a note on his door. Then run back to your own house and puff your chest out like you just taught him a thing or two. Reality, what you showed him was you are too candy *** to knock on the door. Honestly, if I was Higgins I doubt I would be real scared of UK fans, in fact I'd be more likely to laugh a little "OOOOHHHHHHH NO..I better not make bad calls in a UK game again, they might post things on my face book page, or god forbid they will call my house and I have to hang up on them, BOOOOY they sure showed me!"

aren't you the same poster that does not care about players after they leave? so why would you care about what a very few other fans do?

I'm tired of all the panty waists sniveling about "poor old misunderstood Mr. Higgins".

Stick a damn dirty sock in your face and shut up.

I get what you're trying to convey, but your anology is pretty pathetic. In your instance, you're leaving a note hoping the neighbor doesn't know who left it, or wont be confrontational about it if he does. Most of these people posted from their actual Facebook accounts on his, with their full info available to him. Sure they didn't drive to his house and knock on his door to confront him, because that's called a felony!

Didn't Willis cost the team the same by missing the three at the end? Why not blast him. The only thing this will do is make everyone think all UK fans are crazy rednecks.

If they call the game fair, and let the players decide it, not a sleazy ref like Higgins, the no ref has anything to worry about. Can you name me ONE time a ref has been assaulted or harmed by one of our fans when calling a basketball game. I've been following UK for over 70 years, and I've never seen it happen.

I was hoping we could just send the BBN version of this guy to visit Higgins.

You are as old as me. You can't really think that it is ok to harass someone like this.

Players miss shots, that's part of the game and not something officials have control over. We could have won if we had made free throws as well, but the point is, if we had a fairly called game none of that would have mattered. The 2 goaltending calls on Bam are a prime example. If those are called correctly that's a 4 point swing that wins it for us. Those were very clearly out of the cylinder, especially the 2nd. Had the game been called fairly and we lost I would have no issue with the officials. However, looking at his full track record against us, inparticularly tournament games, it's glaringly obvious this man has a grudge against UK. When you are willing to use a position of power to influence the outcome of something for your own personal benefit, you deserve the repercussions associated from those actions. As I have said, I don't agree with threatening the man's life or physically, but posting on his Facebook, calling/texting, emailing and etc... are all fair game. And as
I have said before, since threats have allegedly been made against him it would seem incredibly risky to allow him to officiate another UK game. It puts him, players, coaches and others in attendance in danger if someone does in fact choose to retaliate against him during a game or something. The NCAA would then appear extremely negligent and be liable knowing the risk and doing so anyway. I don't get why some of you are so worried about. Other fan bases already hated us and thought most UK fans suck, anybody else won't know or care. If you don't want to be associated with it don't participate in it. Anybody worth worrying about it going to know this is coming from the extreme fanatics of the fan base.

you should wear a set of big shoes and a round red nose.

Well it would be stalking, threatening, trespassing, assault, harassment. Which would you prefer?
I'd prefer you stick to your statement.

Going to someone's home, knocking on their door and telling them off isn't stalking, unless you keep doing it.

You can't trespass until you've been told to stay off the property.

You don't have to threaten someone to confront them.

Assault? You don't have to touch someone to confront them.

Harassment, please refer to stalking and trespassing.

What you're effectively saying is no one could ever knock on a neighbors door and tell them to cut down the noise or whatever other commotion is going on without it being a felony. Sorry, that's ridiculous.
