So, this older man was hit by a car or truck on his bicycle. The police pulled up and the old guy was trying to get his stuff together and looking for his wallet when the cop decided to bash his head against the blacktop for not listening to him.

The older fellow had a brain bleed and spent the night in jail for being intoxicated. There are other videos on this. He was not intoxicated. He died of a stroke shortly afterward related to the policeman attacking him. The police did a bang up internal investigation on this and found no wrongdoing. The district attorney or county attorney or whatever in Texas followed up with his own investigation and the policeman was arrested. He is still awaiting trial. If you need someone for the jury, I'm available.

I am generally speaking pro cop. I was a military policeman and at the time ((probably still is) a ticket to a job on any police force in the USA. There are good and bad people in police work, just like any other job. There was a personality difference in the military cops who wanted to be a cop as a civilian and those who did not. There was one guy who kept a chart in his locker, On one side was a list of all the ranks, on the other side was all the possible things he could write someone up on. His goal was to get check marks in every box. He was over the top in everything, but his superiors loved him because he had the most arrests, tickets and etc.

There were exhaustive threads covering this issue when Breonna Taylor was killed in self defense while attacking police in her home in the middle of the night. Paddock conclusions were that it was absolutely necessary and all anyone ever has to do is comply. Are there a few bad apples scattered few and far between among our valiant police forces? Well, no, of course there’s not and we should never say such slanderous things.

Most of those are meaningless to me. I don't care.

Two policemen surrounding my vehicle with their hands on their weapons because I have a headlight out bothers me. I should not be under threat of death because my headlight is burned out.

There are good and bad people in any job, but considering the EVER PRESENT danger that police officers are in, they will always get a LOT more leeway with me, even if they made what later turned out to be the wrong decision. I haven't read anything on this case, so I won't offer an opinion on it, but AGAIN, law enforcement officers, at the street level/initial point of contact are going to get a LOT of rope, when it comes to me. (edited to clarify that in cases where it is CLEAR that they were in the wrong, they should be fired/prosecuted)

Like I said, I wasn't commenting on this particular story. I didn't even read it. I was making a generalized comment about law enforcement officers. I never meant to imply that, blanket statement, cops should be able operate with impugnity.

I haven't even watched the video, but I know there are bad cops and good cops because I worked with both. I preferred security over law enforcement because most of the time you knew who the bad guys were. Getting and keeping good cops is a huge problem. You can only hire people from those who apply for the job and who wants the job? I was getting ready to go to Viet Nam and they came to our base asking for people to volunteer to go into law enforcement with a huge list of major cities to choose from. All we had to do was sign a contract and we would get an immediate honorable discharge and free airfare to the chosen city. Not one cop on the base accepted. People chose the chance of Viet Nam over being a cop. How are you going to get the best people to take the job? I honestly don't see a good answer.

Part of the problem is that there are just too damn many laws. And instead of dealing with the criminal elements we make everyday occurrences criminal.

This. This right here. Might be the number 1 issue. Cops aren't there to serve and protect. They are agents of the state used to strong arm citizens to make money for the government.

"Resident Alien" status will qualify one for both police AND active duty military service IMO

The institution of local police and local accountability is under attack like many other institutions & frameworks

Aside tm certain bad actors within the ranks - I think we can also argue the politicians in many urban areas AND the law itself - is radically changing


So - bad cops + expanding the range and type of crimes they can pursue - DROPPING several types of criminal punishment and releasing violent offenders - while our half-rate marxist rabble scream and call for defunding them

Remember when that Somalian cop killed that woman in Minnesota who had called them? He was in the passenger side and shot her. How crazy is that? Of course that guy ended up doing hardly any time.

There’s a lot of cops that are psychopaths and desire to hurt people and want power. They’re never held accountable by their union.

I have/had a few cops in my family. They're the ones you want if you get pulled over. I've had more than a few run ins with LEOs. Not once was I ever nervous or angry. If you aren't doing anything wrong just comply and be nice and that's it. Now, there are a few a$$hat cops around but in my experience it's few and far between. FWIW, I didn't watch the above video.
