Cooper Flagg

If he wasn't at Duke you wouldn't be hearing as much about him. As a matter of fact, ESPN would point out that he's in a weak conference against poor competition if it wasn't Duke.

Unsure how anyone thinks he's overated . He's clearly a great player. Is he Larry Bird 2.0. like i hear a bunch ........ I don't know. But would be shocked if he wasn't a perennial All Star.
How many truly great players have supposedly gone through the Duke system vs those who truly demonstrated their label of great in college? I don't know the exact number, but it is very small. On the flipside, look at the number of Kentucky players who weren't considered great, but became great in the NBA.

You are correct. Both teams played under the same conditions. There is nothing worse in sports than sore losers.
This reminds me of a team I played against in high school my sophomore year. They had about 3 big guys that made up their frontline, the types that struggled to get up and down the floor. They used longer than normal nets so that the ball wouldn't go through them as quickly, sometimes almost hanging in them. My coach said it was to slow the game down for their bigs. If I mentioned the school's name people on here likely would know who the big guys were on that team back then, especially if you're from southern Kentucky.

Vitale compared him at 18 to LeBron, Kobe and Magic. Later added Jordan and Bird.

The kid is good but that might be a stretch.

In the last 25 years we have had dookies be national players of the year that had NBA careers that were not very good.
Flagg is really good. May be great. Damn sure would love to have him in a UK uniform.

But announcers/analysts today all yearn for a “generational” talent to play up trying to make every moment of their broadcast far more consequential than it is. But them comparing Flagg to those at this point is ridiculous and unfair to Flagg.

Give their names.

Probably not. 75% of the Flagg vitriol is created by announcers/analysts/ESPN hyping him and forcing him down our throats. The rest is Duke hate (I get and partake lol) and him doing stuff like grabbing his nuts when he dunks and no T called.

I get so tired of hearing him called by both names on every move he makes. It is so similar to how Billy Packer always referred them as Duke University every game and every other team as Kentucky, Indiana, Arizona etc.

He's just your average 6'10" guy with around a 40" vertical and good fundamentals that plays hard on both end of the court. Those types are a dime a dozen, right? Just my opinion but the media is going to gush forever about any great white player at any blueblood school, including UK, because they just don't come along that often. Reed Sheppard got hyped into the 3rd overall draft pick.

Not saying anyone is but he's getting more hype than Wemby. I get Wemby was foreign but still.
Oh, I agree with you but I think it's just that Wemby wasn't the next great white hope.

Edit note: when I said "great white hope" I was speaking about the media's attitude. I have no racial feelings, no animosity toward ANY other races and no pride regarding my own race. I was born pale skinned but it was not some accomplishment on my part. In fact I've always wished I was darker so I wouldn't fry in the sun so easy.

He's definitely not overrated. I can understand being annoyed by all the publicity he gets, but he's a legit superstar at the college level.
I think he’s overrated but only slightly. He’s arguably the best player in CBB but I don’t think he’s a generational talent or a sure fire perennial NBA all-star.

Put it this way; I think if Johnni Broome or Braden Smith played for Duke and Flagg played for Auburn or Purdue, I think THEY’D be leading the Wooden Award outs right now.

Agree but honestly Flagg is likely the best I have seen play for Duke since Grant Hill maybe Zion if he was ever healthy.

I worked for the Carolina Panthers and one of our players was Will Witherspoon from Georgia. When I told him I went to Kentucky he got a funny look on his face. Apparently we grew the grass on our field extra high to slow Georgia down. I had heard that some baseball teams would do that so that their more speedy players could leg out infield base hits.

He’s a freshman that is leading his team to a high ranking and he is living up to expectations put on him coming into the season . He isn’t overrated . I get people are annoyed at the love fest since he’s at Duke but he’s the real deal at this level .

People bring up Harper and Bailey and they are wasting away at Rutgers and we most likely won’t get to see them at the big stage .

Back when Kentucky played Florida in Commonwealth Stadium later in the football season they would make Florida use the sideline that was in the shade to make it colder for them.

For LmdCat, please read the update to my post. I have many flaws but racism is NOT one of them.
Also, sorry about being a butthole to you last week.

Serious question: because of his age will he have to stay at Duke one more year?
He turned 18 in December, which means he turns 19 in December of 2025. The rule is you must be at least 19 during the calendar year of the draft, so yes, he is draft eligible.

I’m failing to see what you saw last night to call him a choker. He hit big shot after big shot in the clutch. His turnover was a freak accident due to moisture on the floor, so who knows if he would have hit that final go ahead basket.
It's not a freak accident, he did the same thing against us in the final seconds. Not yet ready for the ball in his hands in crunchtime. Immaturity.

If he were in our uniform, we would be touting him as the second coming of MJ. You and I both know that is true. We love our kids more than most fanbases in America. We rarely think other team's players are good or great. We just need to be honest about how we view our kids. This is how it should be but for us to cut our opponents kids because they don't wear a KY uniform is really unfair. Other teams have great players. Flagg is a great player even if he does wear a shvty uniform. Every team in the SEC has atleast one player that we would love to have on our team. Some teams have several kids that would be put on a pedestal if they played at KY.

That is simply not true. We have had better players than Cooper Flagg under Cal and I have never heard anyone on this board tout any of them as the 2nd coming of MJ. Good to great players? Yes but not the 2nd coming of MJ.
