Congrats on an outstanding career. You've done it with class, and you've been a great credit to the game of basketball. Ignore the hate. Ain't nobody got time for that.

He won't get this til tomorrow because he only checks this board between 8:00-9:00.

I'll say it: I like him, and think it's self evident that he's one of the best coaches in history, if not the very best. I understand people get sick of the ESPN hype and Vitale's nonstop valentining (by the way, UK fans cannot legitimately grip about that, as ESPN's coverage of UK since Cal got here has mostly resembled an infomercial). I understand the Corey Maggette thing and the indefensible double standard applied by the NCAA in that and other Duke matters. I understand people think K has refs in his pocket. Get all that. Seems to me if those things bother you, then hate on the media, the NCAA, the refs.

Dude has won a thousand games. Eleven final fours and four titles over four different decades. Credit where due.

Just read this account of K's reaction immediate reaction after Laettner's shot dropped through the net in March '92:
What did Krzyzewski do? He shook hands with Kentucky's coaches and players, and then he walked up press row to where Cawood Ledford, the legendary radio voice of Kentucky basketball, was conducting his final broadcast. Ledford, who had announced at the start of the season that was retiring, didn't know Krzyzewski, but he sat amazed as the Duke coach put on a headset so he could talk directly to Kentucky's fans. Bypassing the joy his players were still feeling ,Krzyzewski expressed sympathy to those sad souls in the Bluegrass. He told them to be proud of how valiantly their Wildcats had played.
Thought that showed a lot of character when it happened. Still do.

He just better not get into the tourney, come up against us, and tell his kids the night before that he's retiring.

I'm sure there are many things K has done through his career that were noble, gentleman-like, and classy.. But talking to the team and fans after you just won the game in 92 is not one of them. I never get this line of thinking.

Oh whooppee.. He's on cloud 9, of course it's easy for him to be chipper about the opposing team and fanbase, HE BEAT THEM. What's impressive is if someone does this after his team just lost. That's real class and humility.

Not to mention teaching your players to flop rather than play actual defense. Oh, and being so forthcoming in the investigation into Thomas's 100K jewelry purchase like you promised. Or having one of your players elbow Hansbrough in the face. Actually, that one was ok.

You have to give the guy credit for being an innovator. Before Coach K it wasn't normal for guys to play defense by flying backward as if they had just gotten hit with a cannon blast as soon as the guy they were supposed to be guarding came within five feet of them.

Not from me ever. Guy is a total fraud and phony. You guys can dangle if you want.

Agreed. I have never gotten the K crush because the guy was a "gracious winner." As someone else pointed out, he sure didn't do anything to get to the bottom of the Lance Thomas scandal. He just let it go away. That is class???? Not in my book.

Maybe he can condescendingly enter another opponent's locker this year if Duke gets beat in the early round or throw his freshmen under the bus like he did with Parker last year in the tournament post-game conference.

Yeah. Total class.

This is the same guy who sure didn't want a horrible season to appear on his record so the record for most of the season went to the assistant. I thought there was no "I" in team. K doesn't spell it the same way I do.

The grace and class that he demonstrated after the 92 regional championship game when he went right over to Cawood to address the Kentucky fans on the radio makes him okay in my book.

Easy to do when you won. Don't remember him doing that in '98. Wonder why....hmmmmm. Guys a fraud.

For you guys saying that being gracious when victorious is easy, and that taking the headset from Ledford to address BBN is therefore not worth much....can you give me examples of another coach doing that, or something similar? Surely if it's that "easy", it should happen all the time....

Sure would have been classy for K to bench Laettner for stomping the s**t out of Timberlake's stomach, but instead he is called classy for "soothing" UK fans afterward? Call me bitter or whatever, but I know a two-faced " I'M gonna rub it in your face" bastard when I see him.

I don't much care for Coach K. But I can acknowledge that much of my reason for not liking him is because his teams are always so good. I'm not gonna cry if they lose every game. That's just a fact.

But to deny he's a great coach is to stick your head in the sand. It's the equivalent of closing your eyes, sticking your fingers in your ears, and screaming "lalalala I can't hear you!" It's childish nonsense. Don't get me wrong. I can be childish in a moment of frustration. It's temporary insanity though. When I come to my senses, I have to tip my cap to the guy. He's one of the greats in this sport. He may be the greatest in history, definitely in the modern era. To deny it is to commit intellectual suicide. His resume is undeniable.

He talked to our team after 98. I do not think he got on the radio though.

Krybabyanski should've had wins vacated by now, if he'd been held to the same standard the NCAA used with Cal.

I watched the press conference after the game in 98 and K couldn't have been any nicer or more complimentary of our team/kids. He showed a lot of class then as well.

Congrats for keeping the NCAA from vacating a good number of those wins by playing players that were NCAA ineligible.

DALLAS (AP) - A starter on Duke's 2010 national championship basketball team purchased nearly $100,000 in custom jewelry that season from a New York firm that caters to professional athletes, and he's now being sued for failing to pay the balance of what he owes.

Duke's second-place finish in the 1999 NCAA tournament is in doubt after former player Corey Maggette admitted he took cash payments from a summer league coach while in high school.

Maggette signed a sworn statement reversing earlier denials and admitting he took $2,000 from Myron Piggie, his summer league coach for a Kansas City-based AAU team, Duke said Tuesday.

Here's just a few "Look the other way" from NCAA.

Congrats K

Coach K came out in support of our 2012 team also, I cant quote but he said something like, anyone that talks bad about this Ky team just has sour grapes.

Funny that it's conveniently ignored that the same thing was done for Lute Olson and Rick Majerus for games in which they missed due to injury, illness or death in the family.

But hey it is a UK board and I don't expect any more objectiveness here than the stuff I've seen on Carolina boards. (As No coach has ever done anything in the sport outside of Lexington and Chapel Hill.)

I'll give credit where credit is due. So congratulations Coach K on 1000 wins. However, the reason I don't like duke is the pedastol that the media and everyone puts them on above everyone else. GO CATS!!!!!!!

I'll start "giving him credit" when the college basketball community and media start giving cal credit for all of his wins and accomplishments. If Duke's banner comes down for the Maggette year, then I'll give K full credit with an asterisk (just like Joe Fan and Joe Media do with Cal and Tark and anyone else that they deem beneath them).

Thank you. This is always erased from the Duke-UK 1992 narrative. Laettner should have been ejected. IF not, K should have benched him if he was really the classy individual that the world like to hail him as being.

Maybe the team, staff, fans, etc, didn't want to hear the other coach talk them up. They just lost the game. Why does Coach K get to decide that? The right thing to do, and what I have done in situations like this, is let the other team dictate. If I just won a ski race or competition, I don't go right up to the family and friends and opponent to talk about it. If the guy that just lost wants to, then fine. If not, fine as well.

It's not the Coach K's place to decide that for the other team.

Tanner would say "Shove it up your ass!

Basically a fraud and a cheat. Probably won 300 games by intimidating or influencing refs, 200 from his players flopping, and another 100 that should have been vacated.
