Concerned About What I've Seen

I don't see that many concerns except

1. Towels was god awful
2. We couldn't run the ball between the tackles after first drive
3. Defense line is slow and weak
4. Linebackers are slow
5. Any team with duel threat QB will punish us

That pretty much sums it up.

Ok, but a quick look at our future opponents

SC beat an ACC team
FL pounded their Sun Belt opponent
Missouri won 34-3
Auburn will hurt our defense
UT scored 59 today
GA scored 51
Louisville's QB looked pretty good vs an Auburn defense

Do we beat any of these teams tonight? USC maybe?

Our 2nd half was really bad, we really need to find a way to get some things working better.
The reality is that we probably would've lost to every one of those teams tonight.

Lmao yea, ^ not too much to be concerned with.

Towels is not now, or will he ever be a good QB. I'd take a senior Hartline over Patrick any day and that's sad. Just put Barker in and see what he can do.

Not sure you can start Barker after a win but if PT doesn't get better he could get a shot vs USC.

Towles the first half of the season last year was seen in the first half. In the second half it has been the Towles the second half of last year. He needs to be more consistent for UK to have any chance to do anything this year.
If Towels is our QB the rest of the year we won't go bowling !! He hasn't improved much at all

good post. I've never understood how some fans can see this team winning 8 or 9 games. It was NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN this season.

I will be happy with 6 wins. Anything over that and I'll be surprised. We still do not have the talent on the field of any other SEC team except for Vandy.

We're talking about uk football fans, more specifically, wildcat lair uk fans. Rinse repeat. No matter what happens, absolutely no matter...this will be this board.

I think people were looking for a much improved team, I will pat myself on the back and tell you I was just hoping for 6 this year due to youth and still missing so many pieces. If we can keep recruits we will be fine over the next year or two.

The other issue is how many of our opponents have this many questions after game one? It's not just about us, but our schedule. If we were in the Sun Belt it would be easier to swallow. But many of our future opponents fared much better today. It is all relative.

There are definitely not a lot of wins on that list currently. But injuries happen, some teams lack depth (Florida, South Carolina) and will probably be weaker down the stretch...unfortunately UK doesn't get them down the stretch. Also, UK should get better as the season progresses. At this point, I would right Mizzou, Auburn, UT, UGA off as sure losses; but those games aren't being played today so a lot can change.

I thought the offense looked good at times in the 1st half, we did put up some points. Overall, we scored 40 points, that will win you some games. I thought the biggest problem was our defense. That team shouldn't have scored more than 10 to 14 points on us.

Maybe if we hadn't been obliterated our last 6 games last season, including loosing to our instate rival (again) with their 3rd string QB we wouldn't feel this way.

It's been decades since we had a winning record in the sec and I don't see that changing this year )-:

Wildcat Lair posters may have some issues, but compared to Rafters posters, Lair posters are much more knowledgeable about FB than Rafters posters are about BB. Lair posters are considerably more rational as well.

Ummm, senior Hartline was a great college qb. He would be awesome for this team.

Curious how long coaches will stick with him if he comes out the same against USC.
I've been wondering the same thing. Maybe he's the best we have. If Barker really made it a QB race he will get his chance. That could've been coach talk though.

This is completely false.

If he struggles the first 3 series, I bet we see Barker.

From what I've seen so far this game, our Defense is just as bad as it was last year and our offense really isn't much better. In saying that, I'm just glad our WR are finally catching balls. Now I realize that this is just our first game of the season, but definitely count me in the group that is concern about this season. I'm not usually a worrier, in fact just the opposite. However, I'm concerned with what I'm seeing so far.

I have no idea how good ULL is supposed to be, but I would've thought we'd be better, much better.
You're concerned about our offense, but you like how our receivers are catching the ball?

Yes I do. The receivers are catching what's thrown to them in most cases. However, plays at most other positions just weren't up to snuff the last game. I do think a lot of this will be fixed by Saturday

Completely false???

Guess you missed all of the "40-0" posts in 2013-14 and 2014-15 BB seasons.

Or the meltdowns and "the sky is falling" posts when UK BB only wins by a small margin.

Or the early season predictions of a national championships for the 2012-13 BB team.

Or the scorchingly critical critiques of a player's abilities or character if he happens to have a bad game.

The "player X sucks" posts.

Or the "Coach Cal should have done this or done that" posts after a close win or loss.

Or the "platooning is the greatest, because . . ." posts or the "platooning sucks, because . . ." posts. (Take your pick.)

Or the "refs screwed us again" posts. (My personal favorite.)

Or the "NCAA is out to get us" posts.

Or "opponent's player X is a thug" because he plays good, hard-nosed defense or rebounds aggressively.

I could go on and on!!!!!!!!

Delusion, lack of knowledge, and "rinse repeat" at its finest! :sunglasses:

Good post. The truth is that many on here are completely ignorant.

Most are the type that when the s/&t hits the fan they're nowhere to be seen.

ULL has been really good since their HC has been there, winning 9+ every year. That said, it is a Sun Belt team...and one that may beat us tonight if this keeps up. I am really having trouble believing what I am seeing. It was 21-0 at one point...and now with that INT they could tie this game up with a TD and 2 pointer.

I think all the people predicting 7-8 wins, and "We will handle SC on the road and FL at home for sure" posts were a bit premature. I said I'd be happy with a 1 point win on the road at SC...and that stands. At this point I'll take a win tonight, no matter the score.
SC fan here, we will also take a one point victory, period. But unless I am wrong here, same old same at WB this Saturday, can't see why it will be any different. SC gonna run the hell out of the rock at home, gonna be lower scoring than most predict, Spurrier gonna turn the clock, that is where we are right now as a team, no fun and gun here right now.

I went back and really paid attention to each offensive play of the first half. When we went straight up against ULL's defense, we dominated them. It was when they sent the blitz and we didn't have enough blockers that we were "man handled" that is a coaching problem, not a player problem. Unless Towles is allowed to audible into another play.

We definitely had some issues with the blitz, but I think the biggest factor to our offensive struggles was adjusting to ULL switching from the press to a deep 3 in the second half.

First half we had one on one press coverage, PT knew exactly who he was going to throw it to pre-snap. No reads necessary, just snap, 3 step drop, and throw it down the field.

In the 2nd half ULL went to a cushion on the corners forcing the short/intermediate routes and PT was forced to go through the reads. Now your point about handling the blitz comes into play here because if you don't have time it makes it very difficult to go through progressions. Add to that his inaccuracy and it becomes a struggle.

We went a bit pass happy which was confusing with such a lead, and with the 3 deep we did not challenge the middle of the field allowing lbers to creep up to stop runs and disguise blitzes. A couple of crossing routes and play action would have been nice to see in this instance.

SC played pretty good defense vs UNC, we will have challenges for sure. My hope is that PT bounces back with confidence and we see some TE action, as SC will be prepared for the straight go routes we went to so often in the first half.

Please see above post. Delusion, lack of knowledge, rinse repeat are paramount on Rafters!!! (I'd use what I usually think of when I occasionally read that board, namely Dafters, but I had a post deleted by an over-sensitive, politically-correct mod last year for using that reference.) :sunglasses:
