Concerned About What I've Seen

From what I've seen so far this game, our Defense is just as bad as it was last year and our offense really isn't much better. In saying that, I'm just glad our WR are finally catching balls. Now I realize that this is just our first game of the season, but definitely count me in the group that is concern about this season. I'm not usually a worrier, in fact just the opposite. However, I'm concerned with what I'm seeing so far.

I have no idea how good ULL is supposed to be, but I would've thought we'd be better, much better.

Absolutely concerned. This is not a bowl team playing like this and now we have no energy and they have all the momentum.

ULL has been really good since their HC has been there, winning 9+ every year. That said, it is a Sun Belt team...and one that may beat us tonight if this keeps up. I am really having trouble believing what I am seeing. It was 21-0 at one point...and now with that INT they could tie this game up with a TD and 2 pointer.

I think all the people predicting 7-8 wins, and "We will handle SC on the road and FL at home for sure" posts were a bit premature. I said I'd be happy with a 1 point win on the road at SC...and that stands. At this point I'll take a win tonight, no matter the score.

too good of an opponent to begin thinking the game in hand. too many players just going thru the motions in 2nd half.

I hear you. This game is far closer than it should be at this point. I can't say I'm overly impressed by our performance, especially in the 2nd half.

That said, I've seen a number of teams struggle in their opening game against opponents they likewise should have put away handily, to include Tennessee and Michigan State, among others. But yeah, this is a pretty bad performance. If this is an accurate reflection of where we are right now, getting to 6 wins is gonna be mighty tough.

We are now in a position to potentially lose this game. We will be VERY lucky to go bowling this year in my opinion. EXTREMELY lucky. This team just doesn't have it.

No usr of Tide ends, D stunk! Towrls has been horrible! Im ready to see Barker to CJ connection. I am over Pat he should of had 500 yards this game!

Towles the first half of the season last year was seen in the first half. In the second half it has been the Towles the second half of last year. He needs to be more consistent for UK to have any chance to do anything this year.

I predicted 6 wins and a bowl game all off-season. For that to happen a victory is needed here. I do think UK will win this game, but it's obvious that preseason hype of 9-10 wins may have been premature. Still, people need to stop acting like its the end of the world. Assuming UK can pull out the win here, they are still in good position to go to a bowl game.

Towles is Bernie Scruggs at best. Overthrown or under thrown open receivers. Our running game is terrible with the exception of one play. I don't see much improvement from last season.

I have absolutely have NO confidence in Towles. Our Defense has been horrible in the 2nd half.. Missed a field goal and extra point. Stoops and staff have been completely out coached in the 2nd half. New season..same BS style of FB.

This is a must win though for 6 wins. If we lose, I will have to amend my prediction to 5. I think UK will pull this out, but this should have been a 17-24 point win IMO.

Towles at least looks like he improved his happy feet last year, but his accuracy and ability to see the field is horrible. I would love to see some coaches film on this game. Receivers look open all over the field and he can't seem to get them the ball.

Towles has been a disappointment this game. I'm not seeing any improvement. He has a big arm but no accuracy.

Honestly, I thought UK would win this game by about 17 points. And you are right, I don't see a path to 6 that doesn't include this game. Still, there's plenty of time to win and Stoops simply has to win these types of close games to get over the hump.

Has to win these types of close games? We need to bury opponents like this and learn to win against the Florida's and Louisville's.

I have said all along that I am much more excited with next year, assuming we can keep our recruits.

Well, presumably the close games like this would become Florida and Louisville. This team is just not there yet, but 6 wins and a bowl are absolutely possible if there's a win here.

I understand, but we had those games against power teams last year, should we be having them against the Sun Belt this year?

In reality, ULL is not a bad team. They're probably lower SEC East at best but they're better than what one thinks. Not making any excuses for this poor performance by UK but it's not like we opened up with UT-Martin.

Curious how long coaches will stick with him if he comes out the same against USC.

we were a 17 point favorite...that is all
I thought it was more than that but it's probably an accurate prediction. Had they not turned the ball over so much we may be down by 17.

Ok, but a quick look at our future opponents

SC beat an ACC team
FL pounded their Sun Belt opponent
Missouri won 34-3
Auburn will hurt our defense
UT scored 59 today
GA scored 51
Louisville's QB looked pretty good vs an Auburn defense

Do we beat any of these teams tonight? USC maybe?

Our 2nd half was really bad, we really need to find a way to get some things working better.

A lot of room for improvement. Defense looks like all of our other defenses here. Bad most of the time.

Towles hasn't improved one bit, IMO.

But it was a win. Losing this one would have done some real damage but we avoided that. Coaches have a lot of work to do but that's why they make the big bucks. 1-0. Need at least 5 more.

Still no killer instinct. Have a problem coasting when they get a lead. Many blamed Brown last year but that's clearly a head coach call. And a leader needs to emerge on both sides of the ball to keep the team from goin flat when we get up a couple scores. This team has all the tools needed but they have to play a little crazy and learn to stomp on the heads they rip off. Mobile QBs we still haven't found an answer for. With a mobile QB getting them back in the game and our offense in coast mode we almost gave that one away. No doubt we'll be a better looking team next week but we need to learn to play 4 quarters to reach a bowl game this year.
