SEC coaches constantly complain to the referees. Oates, Buzz, Pearl, and others complain the whole time and spend most of the time out of the coaching box and over the sideline. These guys seem to get most of the friendly calls.

First time seeing Oats in person. What a whiner. Spends every trip begging for calls. He was Bama’s mvp today. Sour droll guy.
Knew we were in trouble when he got his offense in front of him in the 2nd half. 5 minutes in fouls were 9-2 in his favor. I think they were in the bonus alter 6 minutes

id like to think i was a very honest person.
but if a coached whined on every play(like oats today), or cussed me like k used to do.
i dont think i would ever give them a call

Barking at the refs is part of the presentation as a coach. Can it be effective with the whistle? Sometimes yeah. But it also goes a long way in how your players see you as a coach. Coaches have to stick up for his kids. It’s hard to ask them to fight for you on the floor if you won’t fight for them in turn.

I was coaching a baseball game one time and there was a questionable call. I called time and went to talk to the umpire. I used aggressive body language and I looked pissed but what I actually told the ump was “it was the right call, I know that. But I gotta take a minute to stick up for my boys so just bear with me”. The ump played along, he understood. We laughed about it after the game.
