Coen gone?

My question is, some of the guys that transferred in because of him, do we think we see them transfer out? Stoops should have his next guy up to go public with yesterday.

Yeah that's a regular news feed that picked up the original bleacher report or whatever....it's based off the ESPN guy saying UK is preparing to lose him from last week. It may end up right but that is a couple days behind rehash.

you can only portal transfer & be immediately eligible once. Anybody doing it a 2nd time would need a waiver.

Stoops & the staff have undoubtedly been telling transfers & recruits the 2021 offense is the Kentucky offense now & going forward. Irregardless of who is calling plays. The hire of a 49ers Shanahan guy as O line coach proves this.

I thought part of Coen's seeming success this season was Stoops let go of the reins a little bit. Maybe that signals growth in Stoops' coaching ability to let the coordinator fully coordinate, right on down to game and time management situations and not meddle in such a way he hamstrung his coordinator (something he seemed to do a little with Neal Brown when he first got to UK). From the outside looking in Stoops' seemed to like to recruit TO an Air Raid offense only to ground it at critical moments.

Don't dismiss Coen's ability to get the ball in Robinson's hands ten plus times a game, it isn't as easy to get a player the football in dangerous spots with defenses accounting for him on every down. That is where a pro coordinator makes their bones, getting the football into a great player's hands regardless of coverage or scheme. The Chiefs are--or were--just about without peer in the game at it.

Not saying anything is set in stone, but it might be pretty telling that there's no official statement as of yet or that the heavy-hitting insiders on this board haven't given their 2¢ despite all the Twitter smoke.

That said, if there is something official, I haven't seen it. Van Hiles and Nick Roush are hoping or are in threads about whether or not Coen is leaving.

Seems to me like maybe Coen could be using his pay at UK to negotiate better compensation from the Rams (that's my take. No insider info whatsoever). Regardless, there's at least a little smoke on Twitter that Coen opting for LA may not be black and white.

Will be interesting following this until we get official word one way or the other.

Yeah, the "gotta be first" crowd may have jumped the gun. I'm not familiar with the NFL pay scale, would the Rams pay a non-shot calling OC $1M/year? Also, would UK make, or has made, a counteroffer?

To be fair, I think the dude is gone. That's just on gut and the few tidbits that have come out from Matt Jones and I think one other source.

They might pay a non-play-calling OC a nice salary if he can do a damn-good install and is on the same page as McVay. We saw it at UK with Woodward in the sky. Having someone on the same wavelength makes all the difference.

Can’t blame him for returning back to the Rams organization after they just won the SB. He will be an NFL HC in 2-3yrs tops. Would’ve been a bad decision not to go if we’re being honest. This is as big of a no brainer as Sharpe going to the NBA this summer.

Probably so. Do all the Pro stuff and not have to recruit. Some guys like the recruiting game but to me kissing the ass and bowing down to 18-21 y/os wouldn't be much fun. Have a really good friend who was a college asst years ago. Now, this was a different time, no cell phones, texting, email, etc....but the guy told me his wife would meet him at the airport every 3-4 days to swap suitcases with him during recruiting season. Be tough on a family man.

I looked up the typical NFL OC salary and what we are paying Coen is above what the average OC in the NFL is making with experience. Even if the Rams were to match what we pay him, he's still taking a hit having to live in LA and pay those taxes.

Rowland has a tweet "with kentucky now looking for an OC"

Was about the Bengals WR coach..wandale retweeted it and gave his approval.

I think that would be a good fit to plug and Play. Don't see him coming for the Same position.

I do not know who Stoops will hire to replace Coen. I do not know how various candidates might view the job opening. But I can say with some confidence where Stoops ought to look first. Zac Robinson or Chris O'Hara.

Coen came out of the Sean McVay coaching tree. He brought a sophisticated offensive system to UK, and it was a big success. For those who have not already looked at the difference in UK's 2021 offensive output compared to previous seasons, take a good look at the numbers and chalk that up to Coen's implementation of McVay's offense.

Zack Yenser and Scott Woodward were hired to fit into Coen's offense. Yenser and Woodward are still at UK. This might not seem important, but it is. Stoops either has to hire another OC from the McVay coaching tree, or else he would have to start over and build a new offense.

Like Coen, Zac Robinson and Chris O'Hara are from the McVay coaching tree. As much respect as I developed for Coen in 2021, Robinson or O'Hara could be just as good at UK and either could build on what Coen started. Whether it will happen, who knows?

A young talented Jewish guy like him is going to have endless opportunities for fame and fortune in Los Angeles, not to mention will start getting looks at head coaching gigs after a couple of years. If the pro game doesn't work out for him he can always come back to college where he has proven himself a commodity. Gotta strike why the iron is hot

Dude…. lol

Don't know if the official okey-dokey has been given but saw on Twitter where Chris Lewis/Square were bidding Coen so long.

I don’t see the rams giving that and I don’t think it’s likely it takes that much. Although he may be looking for more than they’ve offered him. It’s all conjecture at this point. The rams go with the collective staff and McVey seems to keep a lot of smart guys around to collaborate with each other instead of the ‘one guy runs the show with a huge salary’ thing. . I don’t know that he will relinquish playcalling but seems with the speculation on his retirement and kid on the way it may be a spot where he wants to give the staff more responsibility to free up a little more of his time.
