Coaching malpractice by Pope.

Few things regarding tonight’s game: we went away from what we are doing good:
- moving the ball unselfishly, cutting hard , running hard
- playing good defense when it matters
- rotating players and keeping them fresh
- making the correct game adjustments

Instead , we didn’t dictate the game rhythm , we were not the aggressor and overplayed the starters which at the end of the game were tired and out of ideas.

Butler and Oweh the only ones that honored the jersey tonight. The rest of players and coaching didn’t show up tonight.
I agree but much of that has to do with the opponent. Outside of Duke, this is the first game that we couldn't use the game as a practice. About 30 points under our average tonight? We played a team that played tough defense. We played an actual basketball team ranked lower than the 250s. There will be more. I think it makes us more prepared for March if we play this type of game. JMO

We saw our weaknesses and limitations tonight … we are very vulnerable when we shoot poorly. It is that simple.
You are right but the same can be said about every team that shoots poorly. It was just our night to have a bad night.

To add insult to injury we had to listen to Dykes and Ravish call this game
Dykes is one of the biggest assholes calling UK games. He was freaking giddy tonight. Off the top of my head some of his dumbass comments tonight:

Oweh splits a double team and gets mugged: “He’s going to get favorable calls like that”
Ball goes out off Clemson and during the review Dykes is trying to will it to Clemson with this gem: “See his left pinky on his right hand”

I hate Dykes as an announcer.

Brea has to be tougher. If he can’t get open then he literally has little to no value. However he was absolutely covered hard all night
I agree. He could not really get open and had difficulty dribbling the ball against Clemson pressure. He is a spot up shooter and cannot really take his man off the ball. I like him, but our last three game were bad shooting nights Defenses are zeroing in on him

I agree he needs shots and I was begging for him to get them. But did you see his defense? He also cannot handle the ball very well. Clemson took him away. We played our worst ball with him in the game. It is what it is. We will be fine.

This is one of the biggest concerns Ive noticed with this team is they are way too weak with ball.

Butler and Oweh are the only two players that don’t make me nervous when being pressured and both are built like football players. If they physicality is lacking which it is with most the team, the handles and speed/quickness have to be elite at this level against solid teams. The college game has just been allowed to become way too physical.

Little things like hitting FTs and getting rebounds is a big thing and Ky has plenty of size to rebound and as old as this team is it should be able to hit FTs, when you go on the road you got to be ready to play well, hope Ky learns from this game.

Coaching malpractice???

More like posting malpractice from the OP!

LOL!

Chicken littles come out in droves after a loss.
All of em. We played pretty bad all night, got a bad whistle imo and beat up most of the night and lost by 2 really. Fouled at the end to try and get a miss but come on.

And when he is covered hard it leaves others open. Having him out there helps everyone out. The thing is a guy like Brea can go scoreless for 15 but all of a sudden pop for 9 points in 2 minutes. I can't understand how people are defending him sitting the bench when he is an elite 3 point shooter. He needs the shots.
He does need shots and game time. It he was bad on a lot of stuff last night. The lineup Pope went with almost pulled it back. I don’t blame him.

Here we go, took one game to start complaining about Pope. You guys are funny.

They're not funny. They're sick. I was told right about the time I started to post on these boards many years ago that most UK fans love to complain more than they love to win, and will do so even when it hurts their team. That advice has not been proven wrong ONCE in all that time since

He’s gotta be on the court though, right? I mean, he’s been sitting next to Pope most of the game, and almost all of the second half.
Yes he has to be on the court but i can understand a little why he wasnt. Everyone he tried to guard seemed to be able to score at will. His defense was the reason he was sitting on the bench.

I'm just silently watching out for the Cal sunshine pumpers...

Got to where I hated those pricks amongst us... Sorry, just had to say it.

So glad we've got Coach Pope! Stay the course.

Go Big Blue! 💙
Yeah, the other coach everyone wanted, lose 3 games in a row. What was his name 🤔 Dan Hurley!!
.Memphis Colorado and Dayton

Some of you are ridiculous.

I'll take Pope over Cal any day of the week.

Kerr and Carr were bad. Most of the team was bad, save Brooks.
Pope slaps a roster together on the fly, makes us very competitive in year one, assembles a solid staff and is already recruiting well, beats Duke and some have a melt down. These people live to be unhappy and most are gutless, jealous trolls. Ignore them.

Same, except I don't think it's a lack of physicality so much as playing rules-based basketball.

The college game has just been allowed to become SELECTIVELY way too physical.

If foul calls were consistent across the college landscape, it wouldn't be a problem. The fact of the matter is and has been since the 60s that they let the refs have individuality on the court instead of holding them to a standard. Fouls are called not based on rules but based on styles of play and refs interpretation.

They call "what identifies as a foul."

This is probably dictated more by television executives and vegas than any conference or the NLCAA.

Yeah right, and when they cover him so tight, somebody else must be open, that even contributes. And Kirrsa gives us nothing, no shot, no drive, Pope needs another back up pg plan.

What I will say regarding Pope that is concerning to me is I am not seeing the wizardry of his great offensive scheme. I realize how that sounds given the scores but look at the level of competition and what other teams do when playing that level.

The last 2-3 games the spacing has been nothing like it was. Ball movement has been poor. Trying to run the offense through Williams is terrible.

What I think we are seeing is other teams have picked up on the lack of ability for our guys to beat them athletically so just guard them physically because outside Butler and Oweh, nobody is taking them off the bounce.

The offensive scheme is going to have to be much better than tonight or else it is going to be 10-12 losses.
Big learning night for Pope hopefully . The thing is teams now have several games of tape on how to defend each Ky player and the sets we have been running . Clemson obviously scouted us very very well and were prepared to do what needs to done with a totally finesse , 3 point dominant team like us . Beat us physically , foul a ton ( they wont call them all right ) crowd the crap out of Brea , and Robinson , totally crash the boards ... having said that if Butler doesnt have a brain fart and crash into that guy 30 sec into the second half we win the game . No doubt in my mind . No need to have a meltdown .. dont see us losing 10-12 games , several guys had horrible games all on the same night , it hopefully wont happen too often .
Now having said that some things need to improve or change . Kriisa cant be dead weight , his D was non existent last night . Robinson has to be able to excel when the D is aggressive , same with Brea , cant shrink away to nothing because the defensive pressure is tight . And we cant get pushed around so easily in the lane . Butler has to play 33-34 minutes .
Hope we show up better in Seattle , good friend is a Zag guy , dont want to hear it from him .

Some people are freaking out a little yes, but others are judging folks who are offering legit criticism. The judgmental ones are almost more annoying than the freakees. I'm just irritated that they were allowed to play so rough. That's some major home cooking that one guy was able to get 20 rebounds without ever once being called for a foul.

I noticed that too. He must be a "Cal guy" because he seemed to be pro-Clemson last night.

You can see from our assist number that we just weren't moving the ball. Constant passing and motion is how we get good offense. Make the defense move until you find an opening. We reverted to Cal like hero ball when pushed last night. We don't have the talent to 1v1 a good team.

Kriisa played more minutes than Brea and Butler. Kinda hard to defend that. He was a net loss every time he touched the floor last night. I know Butler had foul trouble and got banged up, so he gets a pass. But why not slide Oweh to the 1 and play Brea more on a night where we couldn’t buy a 3?

We didn't pass the ball around very good. Only had a few assists on all the baskets.
So the shot selection wasn't that great on three-pointers.
Andrew carr should have been a focal point cuz he plays against this team very well in the past but he didn't play well. His room to operate and spacing was awful.
Kobe Brea should have been playing the last 10 minutes of the game. I don't care who you have to take out of the game he should have been in the game.
If your Pope.... you lose using the best strategy and lineups. You didn't do that and hopefully you will get back on track.
Strike one for your coaching. Do not lose in the style of John calipari cuz you just did.

Brea needs to play defense and rebound he needed to be on the bench along with Garrison and krissa these three gave us nothing last night . I like my team
