Coaching malpractice by Pope.

Few things regarding tonight’s game: we went away from what we are doing good:
- moving the ball unselfishly, cutting hard , running hard
- playing good defense when it matters
- rotating players and keeping them fresh
- making the correct game adjustments

Instead , we didn’t dictate the game rhythm , we were not the aggressor and overplayed the starters which at the end of the game were tired and out of ideas.

Butler and Oweh the only ones that honored the jersey tonight. The rest of players and coaching didn’t show up tonight.

Some of you are 50 year old men that control your emotions like an 8 year old girl

I’m pissed off too and this is especially frustrating after the football news of the last week but Jesus Christ get ahold of yourselves people. We played awful, missed every shot, and lost our first road game by 4. Chill out

Nobody is above criticism. I think Pope is a great coach and perfect for us but at the same time tonight wasn't his best coaching job. Its ok we all have bad days. I bet you he would say so himself.
I don't have problems with constructive criticism but look at some of the complaints and who is making them. They are guys who are still upset that Cal is gone. We don't have a roster of stars, including Brea. Pope was left absolutely zero roster and put a decent one together in a very short time. We'll take some lumps this year, anyone who doesn't realize that doesn't know much about basketball. Tonight was just a bad game for UK.

Pope over subbed tonight never got a rythen
Butler had to play smarter
Carr & Kerr were terrible
AS was Garrison and AA
JUST A BAD NIGHT

And when he is covered hard it leaves others open. Having him out there helps everyone out. The thing is a guy like Brea can go scoreless for 15 but all of a sudden pop for 9 points in 2 minutes. I can't understand how people are defending him sitting the bench when he is an elite 3 point shooter. He needs the shots.
Brea was -15 tonight, so clearly him just being on the floor didn't benefit the team. He was awful on defense and couldn't get open on the other end. He was a liability.

The ball was sticking way to much tonight not much ball movement… and Oweh jacking up 3 threes while brea sits… pretty horrible coaching tonight

11/18 from the line and 7/27 from three and Butler picking up three incredibly dumb fouls and Carr playing his worst game of the year and the team allowing a gooofball to out energy them and out hustle them and snag 20 rebounds is not on the Coach. This is a veteran team of 20 something year olds and they played like a bunch of Freshman tonight. Simple as that.

When he was in he was getting blown by on D and offensively he was a mess with the ball.

Maybe the right move was to keep playing him and hopes his shooting cancelled the rest out. But he was a liability in the first half

Butler being saddled with foul trouble all game is what killed us. Meanwhile their bull in a china shop big man didn’t have a single foul.
Yeah - I saw all of that. But at 3:20 to play and we need multiple shots to get back, we have to have shooters in the game. We did not, unless you want to count JR (I do not).

People talking about Brea’s +|- aren’t being fair to him. He was on the floor with the black hole Kerr. That kid played one of the worst games I have ever seen at UK.

That and you gotta have the #1 3 point shooter in college basketball in the game down on the road in crunch time. 3 straight misses by Oweh. Love the dude, but he's not who I want taking 3's in crunch time. Know your roles.

Well I am not one of those guys. I understand we will. I just think the rotations were a bit off tonight and I know hindsight is always 20/20 but I don't want to see Pope be a coach who shows to much loyalty to certain guys for whatever the reason. I'd love to see Butler, Ohweh, Brea, Robinson, and Amari get some run together. I think Jaxon can do well as a small ball 4.

Back up point is a problem but with Butler in foul trouble what are you going to do?
Disappointing that Perry hadn't made a stronger run for the backup PG.

He’s got to play harder. If they crowd him drive it and take the fouls. He’s got plenty size. Rebound play tougher. Plays like Klay Thompson but it’s college ball and we need him to get a bit dirty.
Love his game but adjust it. He’s got the tools

What I will say regarding Pope that is concerning to me is I am not seeing the wizardry of his great offensive scheme. I realize how that sounds given the scores but look at the level of competition and what other teams do when playing that level.

The last 2-3 games the spacing has been nothing like it was. Ball movement has been poor. Trying to run the offense through Williams is terrible.

What I think we are seeing is other teams have picked up on the lack of ability for our guys to beat them athletically so just guard them physically because outside Butler and Oweh, nobody is taking them off the bounce.

The offensive scheme is going to have to be much better than tonight or else it is going to be 10-12 losses.

There's a bunch of Calipari brainwashed idiots that have been waiting to trash Pope. I really need to stop visiting this board. I'm a low key laid back person for the most part, but the posts here trigger my intolerance for idiocy.
I am seeing a few new people on here but, I am also seeing regular contributors as well. I think most of our SEC games will be played like tonight's game. This team simply lost tonight. It will happen again. Just break this game down and learn from it. I was hoping we would not start with the tough criticism of the coach and, players, so soon in the season. Sacrebleu!!

I'll say the same thing I said last year when people said this about Cal and Sheppard.

Why are people so quick to blame absolutely everything on the coach? Brea is the one out there shooting, not Pope. It's Brea's responsibility to work hard enough to get his shot off. The other team is also trying to stop him. It's not as easy as just drawing up plays for a shooter.
Brea is tall and thick. He is not really quick enough to get open easily, even off screens.

Brea was -15 in 17 minutes, his defense is bad and outside of pump faking and shooting as the defender flies by he really has no way to get himself open. His one drive to the basket he got blocked at the rim. I agree we need to run more plays to get him shots, and hopefully we do as the season goes on.

Butler was our best player tonight by a mile but he couldn't stay on the court from foul trouble. He was +17 in 19 minutes. If he gets 10 of those minutes Kerr played I think we win the game.

Come on man, don't start this sht. Give Coach, the team, and all of us a freaking break. Clemson, at home, played a damn good game. Tonight didn't go our way. Man up. Knock off the finger pointing like you know what you're talking about. Effing "malpractice" my ass.
Bottom line … Butler only played 19 minutes.

We saw our weaknesses and limitations tonight … we are very vulnerable when we shoot poorly. It is that simple.

I agree he needs shots and I was begging for him to get them. But did you see his defense? He also cannot handle the ball very well. Clemson took him away. We played our worst ball with him in the game. It is what it is. We will be fine.

Auburn and Tennessee going to beat us bad, we not a physical team and when we try to be the refs call everything, don’t see how one team can be physical push in the back everytime we have the ball but we can’t touch them
I don't agree that Auburn and UT will beat us bad as I think we can beat anyone but you are right on with comment about the refs. They allowed Clemson to get away with everything.
