Coach Pope’s Attitude

Has anyone been fortunate enough to watch or heard how CMP is at practice ? His sideline demeanor during the games is definitely different for us CAT fans but during this tourney run when it’s lose and your done has got me going crazy how calm he is. When Williams is missing point blank shots at the rim when he should just dunk the ball and the camera scans to CMP he is as cool
as a cucumber. Kudos for him but I’m wanting to butt chewing 😂
What works works and I’m all in on Coach but just curious how he stays so calm. Never seen a major college coach never really get worked up when so much is on the line.

Just curious if he’s like this all the time, I’m guessing yes. It would take most people a lot of medication to remain that calm.

I think he does most of his chastising behind closed doors. I don’t think any player wants to be yelled at in front of everyone.

I love the way Pope conducts himself during games.

No idea what he’s like at practice. I doubt it’s much different.

A coach doesn’t have to act like a madman to be stern.

He has a commanding presence without being demonstrative.

He never says anything negative about a player in the press. And he doesn't seem to crush them during games. If you heard his postgame, he's trained himself to rephrase his words in a positive sense instead of negative.

I don't know how he is behind closed doors. All I can say is this. I'm 45, and I've worked with and for a lot of different managers/leaders in my day. I've known some that lead by fear, some that lead by being asses, some that were super nice. But the one's that I always worked the hardest for were those that I respected. They didn't yell, didn't demean or threaten, and also didn't promise me the moon either. They worked hard too, treated me fair, and never asked me to do something they themselves weren't willing to do. Those were the types that I would run through a brick wall for, without them even having to ask. I feel like Mark Pope is that type.

Jeff Goodman has made remarks on multiple occasions that insinuate Pope gets fiery behind closed doors. I see nothing wrong with being both — get on them in private when ya gotta but let your preparation do the work and don’t show your guys up during the game. Consummate professional

He is the general. He needs to be cool and think of adjustments. We are too used to Italian coaching mentality of screaming nonstop.

Think about how important is to empower your players and give them energy , instead of having them play afraid.

He is a good mentor and more important : he is Believer!

Chewing out a player does very little good, especially if they player doesn't handle it well, some kids let it roll off, like water off a duck others shut down. I did see Pope get animated when they did a no call on Carr shooting in the paint, then calling a phantom foul on Garrison on the other end. Pope was jumping up and down and not very happy and started talking to the ref.
