Coach K: 2016 Olympics His Last as Coach

First blow with Coach K bowing out of Olympics
Considering he only planned to Coach in 2008, not sure how "bowing out" with 3 gold medals after next year should be considered a sign of weakness.
IMO, CoachK just cant swing both jobs.
He certainly managed pretty well since 2006: 2 gold medals and 2 national titles. Only coach besides Donovan to win multiple titles since he came on as coach for Team USA.
Has nothing to do with his admittedly exceptional recruiting last 2 years.. but that was in part due to Team USA
Gotcha. Coach K couldn't recruit until he was named head coach of Team USA. FYI, history indicates the exact opposite.
I think you're seeing age take a toll on Coach K, just like it would anyone else.
Your evidence for this would be? Because he's finally stepping down from head coach of Team USA? From all accounts, his experience with USA basketball reinvigorated him these last 9 years. If you watched any of our games last season, or any of the hundreds of interviews he's conducted since April, he is hardly run down at this point.
he seemed to do BETTER with Duke when he was coaching Team USA.
I agree. He had a chance to pick the brains of his assistant coaches and influence NBA superstars. He had an opportunity to learn again from others he respects, and it was clearly an invaluable experience.

I honestly don't know why I try to reason with a few of you. Despite the overwhelming amount of evidence (namely numerous comments by Team USA players) about how much credit Coach K deserves, a few of you can't look past your blind hatred towards Duke and your completely ridiculous and utterly unfounded conspiracy theories.

I mean "Bowing out" as just leaving, for no reasons having to do with his performance. He's stepping down, probably due to energy. As. I. Already. Said...

2006 was almost ten years ago. He's old. Things change when you go from 63 to 66.. or from 66 to 70.

Just my opinion for why he's stepping down. I think most would agree he's doing it, in part, because of age. I'd bet he'd rather focus entirely on Duke for his remaining 5-8 years.

I'm not commenting on whether he was good or not at USA coaching, because I don't care. I care more about why he's quitting, and what effect it will have going forward. I don't think this is a good thing for Duke. More time for coaching, sure.. but no USA ties... Hard to tell.

What does that have to do with the "unfair advantage" discussion?

If you're going to start talking about Coach K's "aura" and how that is an unfair advantage, then I don't know what to tell you. It's almost as if you're implying it's unfair he has the titles and career record he has.

I don't know what to tell you. You either get it or you don't. I guess if Cal was in coach K's position you might understand a little better.

I never said I had any.. FROM THE START! Thanks for telling me my opinion was an opinion after I prefaced it so.

I don't know what to tell you. You either get it or you don't.
I honestly don't get what you're trying to prove. You were talking about Coach K's unfair advantage. I ask about Miller and Donovan, who actually coach/coached these kids. You come back with how they probably have an unfair advantage, but Coach K's "aura" commands more respect. Your "aura" comment is completely irrelevant to the "unfair advantage" that apparently comes with being the senior Team USA coach.
I guess if Cal was in coach K's position you might understand a little better.
Come again? Are you talking about unrelated "aura" again?

Here's an idea, @spotter34: stay on topic and quit changing the metric.

Okay, play dumb all you want, or maybe you're not playing. I'll go back to my original thought. I hate dUKe and coach K. Does that help you understand where I'm coming from a little better. You're the first poster on the rivals board that I'm going to put on "ignore". Congrats!

Still not getting it. You offered your own opinion, and I'm ok with that. It doesn't anger me that someone has a different viewpoint. Atleast I can tell the difference between stating a fact and an opinion. Glad I helped you (maybe?) see the difference.

Meh.. He'll have to retire soon whether you like it or not. And he won't sniff 8 titles. Duke will drop to some extent, and will never catch Kentucky in.. anything really. [winking]

Why the hell would I be talking about something other than College Basketball? This isn't a debate about states. You're literally trolling at this point. You know what the topic is, you choose to skirt it to make asinine remarks.

I think it's time for a perma-ban.

Why would you not conclude that? How dumb can you be? At no point did this topic or my own posts deter away from college basketball. You're like a child.

"You can't have ice cream now"

"Well how about in 10 seconds!?"

Do I have to walk you through everything?

Why would you not conclude that?
Because the phrase "anything really" has a far broader context than college basketball. That's why I clarified my response by saying "Outside of college basketball, this comment doesn't make any sense."
How dumb can you be?
Solid comeback.
At no point did this topic or my own posts deter away from college basketball.
That's why I clarified your open-ended "anything really" comment by pointing out the truth that your statement essentially makes no sense outside of the context of college basketball. Just adding context to your very broad generalization. No need to get so perturbed.
You're like a child.
Coming from the guy calling people names because he doesn't realize that "anything really" is a overly general phrase? Sounds like you confused yourself and are angry.
"You can't have ice cream now"

"Well how about in 10 seconds!?"
[eyeroll]
Do I have to walk you through everything?
Dear god no. There isn't enough alcohol in the world to make that seem like a good idea.

eff it. Just reporting everything you post from now on. It'll at least make the Mods take notice.
