Coach Cal's Name Came Up In This Article

A) is stuck on one national championship despite having immensely talented rosters nearly every year, B) hasn't been to the Final Four since 2015, C) turned in the worst season in modern school history two years ago, D) lost to Saint Peter's in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last March, and E) took a team ranked No. 1 at KenPom.com this preseason and started 2-4 in the first two quadrants with zero wins over top-40 KenPom teams.

Parish lays it out pretty well in regards to Cal’s shortcomings.
Pretty sad that we seem to be stuck with him.

The key thing I took from that article was that statement ," a close friend of Cal's said he should have taken the UCLA job; that thing at Kentucky has run its course:.
Coaching at UK should not be a "thing" but a privilege, an honor. Same for Alabama football, ND football; there are some institutions that their past means something.
If this is really how Coach Cal feels, then I am on the bandwagon for him to GTFO of Lexington.

It's not gonna happen but if Texas did hire Cal, then they would have a screaming lunatic on the field and the basketball court.

Only a handful of possibilities that Cal would take something like Texas:

1) They hold out with interim coaches until end of the season for both teams.
2) Cal didn't have such a super class coming in next year (I doubt the kids would follow because NIL will be much higher for bball players in KY than TX)
3) Cal would have to drop his ego and essentially take a step down to a TRUE football school, from what even he called the top of the college basketball coaching world (UK)
4) UT would have to pay off his buyout AND pay him more than he's making now.

I just don't ever see this happening. When Cal leaves UK, it will be leaving basketball in general. I simply can't see him moving to a new school to become the next Tubby Smith or Rick Pitino. Maybe he will panic about his "legacy" at UK and turn this thing around and win us a title? Pffft, who am I fooling (myself, obviously, because I still hold out hope he can see the light and fight hard in his last couple or three years in coaching at UK!).

When you are Texas and have only been to 3 final fours during the history of the NCAA, Cal looks as much a sure thing as anyone else out there. He won't be strangling his wife so, that is a plus.

Texas has $$$, less demanding fan base and coming to the SEC. Perfect fit for CAL. He has average seasons they can live with but will have a run or 2:recruit with everyone and be on the basketball radar good or bad with a hall of famer.
