Hello HOB. I'll be following along with the coach's weekly radio call-in show again tonight and sharing all the main news and notes here in this thread for those of you who may not bbe able to listen along live. Show starts at 6 ET. Stay tuned...

* Cal says he used the Super Bowl as an example of a team that has the will to win and the ball last is usually going to win. Noted how good the execution was on both sides of that game, pointed out to the players how you need to be in the right place when your teammates are expecting you to be there. Those are professionals, of course, but you need that mindset to be good.

* Told the team today that UNC was in the same position that UK is in now with 5 games to go last year. Cats have 6 games to go. Have to stay in the now. The schedule will allow them to make this season whatever they want it to be. Don't have to win out, just win most of these. Stressing positive energy.

* Neither CJ Fredrick nor Sahvir Wheeler practiced today. "We'll see about tomorrow."

* Cason Wallace was 8-for-8 on the season in what the staff considers "dagger" shots. He just wasn't in that frame of mind at UGA, for whatever reason.

* Gotta play Lance because Lance will mix it up. Says he needs to play Ugonna, too. (No comment.)

* First question is from Twitter feed, on what impresses him about Mississippi State... They are big, physical, will offensive rebound and post it a ton. 90% of their D is man to man. Occasionally with show some 2-3 zone or press, if needed. But defensive stats are really good. Similar to Florida.

* On what it will take to get back to the level they were playing at when they won at Tennessee... Most of it is mental. Play like you have nothing to lose, like everyone is doing to them.... I haven't lost any faith, Cal says. But Cats need to bust through and finish off a game to get back on track.

* On using more of his scholarships... Says they have 13 on scholarship, then says they have 11. (Huh?) But then says you want to leave a little space for the transfer portal being the way it is now. And he throws in that he just doesn't like it because there are going to be too many guys who don't get to play.

* Some changes they've made to the PNR defense may make them a little more susceptible to the 3, but they like what they've seen from some of the changes so far. In some ways, it has a bit of a zone feel where you're not really playing zone.

* Admitted he'd like to have the play back where the ball wound up in Livingston's hands for a desperate, air-ball 3 coming out of the timeout. Wishes he had run something else.

* Former Kentucky coach Tubby Smith joins the show to discuss the upcoming 1996-98 team reunion. They both joke that Joe B. Hall told them the same story about "if you can make it 10 years..." (Ha. Does Tubby know something is up?) Tubby says whoever follows Cal will have a tough job.

* Funny moment: Tubby mentioned the "Valentine's Day Massacre," as a turning point in the season for the 1998 champs. Says maybe these Cats can get it going from here on out. He is rooting for them.
