Clock management

Can't argue with that. I was just thinking the same about the play calling.

Play calling? The play calling was fine. Towles not knowing how to climb a pocket (I thought our guards and Toth were great tonight) killed us everytime he dropped back. Dawson wants to run the ball but can't do that if we can't throw it, ever.

I also don't blame Stoops for sitting on timeouts when we were getting the ball with around 3 minutes left. 3 timeouts in that situation are huge. Eating a sack on 3rd and long and overthrowing receivers killed us on that drive, not the lack of a TO call. It was setting up perfectly.

The play calling was terrible in the last few minutes. So predictable.

You're so right, but the Towles lovers will never admit it. We got as much pressure on the Florida QB tonight as they did on us. But Grier was able to step up in the pocket and make something happen many times, while Towles just stood like a statue, and then went into the turtle.

clock management wasn't the problem. We had the ball at midfield with over a minute and 3 time-outs left. The problem we have is a QB that can't make throws. He was behind on the slant like always. If he can complete that we are bout 38 yards out with plenty of time and 2 time-outs. Everyone talks about how great his arm is but I don't ever recall him overthrowing a receiver down the field. If anything his arm is below average, his Hail Mary at the half was about 40 yards top

We didn't run out of time. We had enough time to score and leave little time for UF to do anything.

This is what I saw...we had plenty of time to score. Pat just can't string together 4-5 good throws/decisions in a row...but we had plenty of time.

Yup. If we don't convert the 4th and 3, we have a chance still with about 1:20 to play to make three stops, use our TOs, hold them to a FG and get the ball back at 17-9 with a tiny prayer of tying it up.

The clock management was subpar at the end but I wouldn't say it cost us the game.

Stoops let 40 seconds run off the clock on Florida's 4th down play. That took it from 3:15 to 2:35. UK would have had 2 TO and the ability to stop the clock on first downs, incomplete passes or by going out of bounds. 40 extra seconds makes it so much easier on the offense. Would not have been in the panick situation we were in.

So we're up in arms over his not calling TO after UF's 3rd down? I agree, I would have called TO there too, but it seems like there are bigger issues.

Considering the defense, particularly the line, was thought to be a major liability this season, what I've seen so far has me encouraged in what the staff is doing on defense. And this without Flannigan and very limited contributions so far from Hatcher.

I think that our staff failed in many areas last night.

The truth is that we have an inexperienced HC and OC and it showed tonight.

I don't think that the staff has enough confidence in ITSELF to make the necessary adjustments.
