We've had a lot of people ask about opponent's help side defense against a Mark Pope offense. This is a great example of why it is hard to do, at least it was at BYU because they made great reads. BYU pushes off a make. They prod then pass to the big on top. Now they are into Zoom action. Kansas is switching. The first cutter doesn't get the ball. Kansas switches and goes over the top quickly. The screener is now the second cutter. He comes and gets the handoff. Kansas is trying hard not to switch the big to little screen. Here is where Pope's philosophy of basketball comes in. They will keep ball-screening until there is a switch and a mismatch. Fousseyni Traore is the center. He tries to re-screen off the handoff, but Kansas doesn't switch. He goes to post then comes back to ball-screen. This time the Jayhawks bite. There is a big mismatch on the block now. Kansas knows Pope's team will go at this. They have to help from the backside corner. BYU is going to have a shooter there. Trey Stewart is reading that help. If the backside tag man comes he is going to skip. If not he will feed the post. Jaxson Robinson has the wide open three.
